Sure, because having a wider field of view and finer granulation of control (by virtue of having two wrists to balance your character with) make for worse gameplay... sure... Angry Birds controls more accurately with a stylus too... :p

Half of it IS taken from Neogaf actually Nah, I just find it funny that there was so much outrage over it not coming to Wii U, when you can already play a version that is pretty much identical (and arguably better actually) on your Wii U anyway But if you've never played it before, then sure! Go for it, you'll probably enjoy it! Just... for fucks sake, don't cry over it not coming to Wii U. You're not missing anything if you already have it on Cube/Wii.

Pokemon was made for the Gameboy because it was the best platform for the game and the only one that could do the concept justice with the link cable and the social aspect that comes with portability (which coincidentally is the reason why the mainline series has not and will never come to consoles). It was not a matter of choosing the platform for business reasons, but rather that it was the best fit for the game. Resources are resources and they're currently in short supply at Nintendo... Outsourcing their IP to an "experienced" mobile developer sidesteps this point somewhat (though they'd still have to have support and supervisory staff on board, to keep an eye one the chosen developer) but... ... brand damage comes into play, not necessarily from a lack of quality (as Sheikah seems to assume I'm hinting at), but rather the fact that it devalues their own dedicated platforms. Suddenly, it's possible to get your "fix" of Nintendo gaming somewhere other than on Wii U or 3DS! Now you'll have people holding out on getting one, thinking that they'll go full 3rd party and eventually port their games to mobile (or other consoles even). It also compromises their raison d'etre of combined software/hardware development, likely making for a game that would not live up to the quality expected from a Nintendo title... Both games are on 3DS and play better for it... Pretty ironic, considering that you're the one latching onto a strawman here (a comment that wasn't even aimed at anyone here, nor directly related to Goron's original argument) and using it as a convinient get-out to ignore my rebuttal in that previous post...

Wow! What a pointless HD remaster A straight port, rendered in 720p/1080p with no re-rendered backgrounds? What's the point!? It just looks exactly the same as before, except now the characters stand out from the backgrounds like a sore thumb Oh and the "widescreen" mode is just a pan and scan? LOOOOLLLL!!! And even then, they're also using a nasty sharpening filter that crushes the blacks, loses detail and ruins the original background's baked in depth-of-field... Gamecube version in Dolphin HD Remaster Hilarious. I bet they fucked up the lighting and specular highlight effects too... just like they did in RE4 HD... (in fact, even just looking at the one shot there, the lighting is already wrong... and the character shadow is missing too...) Oh Capcpom And after you did such a great job with RE:Revelations HD... Nope, it's just a straight port. The "new" control scheme basically lets you move in the direction that you move the analog stick instead of turning your character left/right (think Attack of the Friday Monsters's Circle Pad vs d-pad controls...) That being said, given how much the camera shifts so suddenly and often (usually pointing your character in a completely different direction towards the camera when doing so) throughout the game... I don't think it'll work very well here... This port is nothing to get excited over (nor is it anything to mourn over not coming to Wii U). The only thing significant about this is that it's the first time that non-Nintendo console owners will get to play it (seriously... for fucks sake, if you've waited this long to play it just because you're afraid of getting cooties from a Nintendo console, then this is the "HD Remaster" that you deserve :p)

That comment wasn't aimed at anyone in this thread, but rather at those fuckwits in the media and Nintendo's idiot shareholders who wank over seeing it happen. And in regards to resources... They're already stretched thin as it is... so... no, they probably wouldn't be without expanding substantially (which brings about a whole host of other problems - even when ignoring brand damage...)

Jesus! They're pumping these out faster than I can beat them! and there's still Persona Q to come too...

You're right in saying that there's nothing wrong with accessibility and that these platforms can fulfil a need to cure boredom for those 2-3 mins when you've got nothing else to do and you have nothing else to occupy your time... But this current form of mobile gaming is a far cry from the days of Snake. These games are colouring the perceptions of people's view of gaming as a whole in a completely different way... a way that tells them that games are completely worthless; and they're not moving onwards either - if anything, the perception is only becoming worse over time as F2P has taken over almost completely. It's like if someone's first ever meal was McDonald's and they never moved on to try anything else... (And if they did try something else from a better place, it would be a half eaten and half rotten hand-me-down, with a broken knife and fork) Current day smartphone platforms are where the concept of gaming is actively desecrated on and openly mocked while doing so. These app stores actively groom the success of these F2P garbage games over everything else, by the nature of how their discoverability works. High quality games are punished by low sales as the shit rises to the top (and everything else becomes invisible outside the top 25/50 chart, since nobody looks beyond it). The only games that these app stores make accessible are pure garbage F2P crap, because finding games outside of the top 25/50 charts is almost impossible... Which neatly ties into Redshell's well made point... ... and that IS true. I'm not trying to say that all mobile games are garbage or that you CAN'T make a good game on smartphones, but I stick by my point that every single game ever released for a smartphone would be a better experience on a different platform (not does the lack of discoverability for the good games do them any justice either). These phones are absolutely Jack-of-All-Trades and no game is made better by virtue of being released on one. Even games that are specifically designed for them would be done better justice elsewhere and so are not congurant to quality game design. Good games on smartphones are made in spite of the platform that they are released on... ... and if you are championing for anyone (least of all Nintendo!) to put their games on mobile, then you are championing for them to make far lower quality games than they would overwise be able to make! And for anyone to demand Nintendo to stop making their best quality titles in favour of mobile games is just utterly sickening!

It's not just one button in the later levels... and even the one button levels would feel better with an actual physical tactile button...
-
And who said that the player would have to have control over the character's movement? There's nothing stopping them from keeping the auto running aspect intact. Just having a physical tactile button to jump would make it a better experience on 3DS or Vita (not to mention that the game's control scheme starts to crumble when you get to the later stages when Rayman is given the ability to punch as well as glide... Seperate buttons would make it control more smoothly there too). Even the games that are designed around the lack of buttons are better served by tactile buttons. Even though a game like Super Hexagon works well on the iPhone, a 3DS version would still be far better because you can feel the button press! (Speaking of which, I'd kill for a 3DS version of Super Hexagon...) There is nothing good that mobiles bring to gaming, nothing! The sooner that these F2P/Skinner Box games get reigned in and regulated like gambling, the better!
-
Even those games that don't abuse microtransactions like Rayman Jungle Run are compromised by the platform they're on (yes it was well designed around te control limitations, but it would still be better served on a platform like the 3DS or Vita) There isn't a single mobile game out there that wouldn't be a better experience on a dedicated gaming platform. Not one.
-
Of course not! The idea is abhorrent! Mobile gaming is a fucking cancer that poisons everything it touches (and even many things it doesn't!) The current form of mobile gaming is the worst thing to ever happen to the industry. Every single facet of its design is actively destructive to all aspects of game design (be it controls, F2P scam mechanics, skinner boxing, or the race-to-the-bottom quality of even paid apps). It has done nothing good for anyone outside of the select few who get lucky enough to win the lottery with their glorified slot machine games. Not only that, but these scam games are also actively dangerous as they prey on the vulnerabilities of people who are easily addicted to gambling techniques. It has systematically destroyed almost the entire 3rd party Japanese gaming industry and it is quickly starting to devour the western industry too! It is something that must be stopped! Not embraced!!! We should be fighting to see it regulated to oblivion by external authorities and governments around the world, before it destroys more lives of the vulnerable people (AKA "whales") that these "games" prey upon

The adventure mode looks pretty cool, reminds me a lot of the Weapon Master mode from Soul Calibur 1 & 2 Boo about the retailer exclusive DLC... but I suppose that since those costumes come at a cost in Japan, we're technically getting one of them for free with each copy of the game... Don't like the practice, but it does come with the territory for the series I suppose... No doubt that these will all be available on the eShop as well, like they are in Japan... (I wonder if the digital version on the eShop will come with all 3 by default to encourage people to buy the digital version instead?)
-
Even if it does (which it very well might not be), it would still lack the exclusive Miiverse & Streetpass features as well as Off TV play (no, Remote Play isn't a viable substitute here either...)/S3D that the 3DS and Wii U features have anyway. So nerr :p Great, now you've got me wanting a C64 version of the game now... just imagine the soundtrack! Thanks a bunch :p

Isn't the last bit something fairly commonly done though? (Maybe not necessarily with staff like Adelman, but for people in positions like Reggie has, isn't it fairly common for someone in Public Relations to ghost write the tweets of high ranked staff in most companies these days? - pretty sure it is...)

Sad to see him go, but if he says himself that he left on good terms and that the team behind indie relations are capable even without him, then I'm inclined to believe him. Dan is notorious for being blunt (in fact that's what got him banned from using Twitter after all!), so I wouldn't imagine that he'd sugar coat anything here. And while it is a big loss for Nintendo, I imagine that he'd still be working alongside the many devs who would still be releasing games on the eShop anyway. If only they'd stop shooting themselves in the feet with dumb and outdated policies, bad PR and stupid decisions...

HE MOVED!!! Getting there... (I even guessed the external localisation time correctly... :awesome:

The new anime and manga thread! [Use Spoiler Tags!]

Supposedly they haven't closed, but rather that they're not currently actively producing any films and are looking to re-structure now that Hayao Miyazaki has retired. Makes sense when you consider that Goro Miyazaki is currently directing a CG TV series at Polygon Pictures which will start broadcast in October, meaning that he wont be free to direct anything else in the next year or so. Hayao Miyazaki has retired, Isao Takahata is unlikely to be working on anything else at this point and their last couple of films did poorly at the box office; so if they're not looking to jump straight into another movie and are considering their options, it makes sense for the production department to close for the time being. It doesn't meant that they won't return to make more movies in a year or two's time or so, but the staff have expressed concern over the future of the studio. Given that its last few films performed poorly and its original raison d'être has now come and gone (it was originally founded solely to allow Miyazaki and Takahashi to make the films they wanted to after all), I would expect some sweeping changes to be made... -
Well I was just thinking the other day that this Smash was lacking in horrible teases to Japanese only games that I really want to play a localised version of... Bastards! BTW, if the game's music gets in... you might recognise it from here...

I'm hearing from some places that they're closing their production and are taking a break to decide their future... I hope for everyone's sake that they're not closing for good -
I reckon it'll be closer to the end of the month, around sometime between the 20th-26th. I wouldn't think that they'd want it to hit too closely to the Hyrule Warriors Direct, lest it lessen its impact. Speaking of which... If Smash Bros Wii U is still coming out this year, this will be the time for them to announce the release date. If it doesn't get announced here, it's not coming out till next year (no way would they wait until the next Nintendo Direct in October and announce the date less than 2 months before it would be due to release - I mean, they could do one last Smash specific Direct in September, but I would think that's pushing it because...) I think we'll get the final Smash Bros character unveil during this ND. We'll have less than a month to go before the Japanese release date for SSB 3DS, so there would be no real space to announce anything else before then - and Sakurai did say that we're nearing the end of new character announcements...) Except this time, he'll totally do it on purpose You're probably right here. Apart from a possible N64 Wii U VC announcement (FUCKING FINALLY!!1!), I wouldn't bet on anything else for Wii U (Project Zero 5 for US/EU would be nice though )

Glad to see you're liking it Redshell. I didn't get that far into it myself, as I ended up getting bored of the battle system, but otherwise your thoughts generally echo mine. It's a really charming (and Tidy) little game If you like it, you'll probably enjoy the Dragon Quest games a lot. While the battle systems in those games might be super basic (too basic for my liking sadly - though DQ9's multiplayer made it awesome!), they have the same charming quality about them that you see in NNK.

Never did get Rage Wars, but I'd love to give it a go. Turok 2's multiplayer with the monkey and the playable raptor was always a guilty pleasure of mine I remember hearing that there was some sort of game breaking bug with one of the final challenges that made it impossible to complete the game though... Supposedly there was a fixed version (I think it was the grey cart version), but IIRC, they're ridiculously rare... (Of course, that would be the version that would use for a potential Wii U VC release )

Heh, don't thank me, thank the person who compiled all that info on GAF that I shamelessly stole
