So, as mentioned on the main site, one of the features that we intend to run for our week long Smash Bros Anniversary celebrations involved a series of daily challenges that span across all five games. These will generally be high score challenges or fastest time challenges across various parts of all five games. Starting from Monday, each day will bring forth a new challenge from one of the five different Smash games; with a new one each day from Monday to Friday. Each challenge, and its corresponding rules, will be posted on the main site as well as in this thread. There's no signup process of any sort as we're doing this old school style! Upon obtaining a high score or best time, simply post a screenshot or a picture from your phone (whatever you have at your disposal) and post it in this thread. You can post more than one attempt if you so wish, but when the next challenge is posted, the best score/time in this thread by that time will be taken as the winning attempt for that day. There is no set time when the daily change ends and the next one begins, so you'll always be in with a chance, even when someone's score seems insurmountable (plus it means that I can get away with posting the next challenge at whatever time I can during a day ) The best 5 scores/times will be posted on the main site, so even if you don't win; you'll still get some bragging rights to show off : peace:

As mentioned on the main site, in light of the one year anniversary of the release of Super Smash Bros for Wii U, we are running a week long celebration of everything Super Smash Bros. As part of this, we are looking to run an online tournament for Super Smash Bros for Wii U here on N-Europe and we are hoping that many of you will want to take part! : peace: We are looking to run three different tourney brackets on three different days. The first will run on Saturday 28/11/15, the one year anniversary of Super Smash Bros for Wii U in Europe. The next two will run on Sunday 29/11/15 and then on Monday 30/11/15. The three different brackets all follow different rules, so no matter how you prefer to play, you're sure to find a tourney that you'll enjoy playing in! On Saturday 28/11/15, we have... For Glory will play out much as you'd expect. No items, Omega Stages only (plus Battlefield), no customisations, no custom movesets. Miis can be used, but must use the default 1111 moveset. For those who aren't big fans of competitive play... On Sunday 29/11/15, we have... For Fun will of course be much more open and less restrictive than For Glory. Featuring all stages (including DLC stages), items on low and allowance for custom movesets, it's sure to be a Smash, no matter what side of the Smash spectrum you land on! And if that's just not enough to satiate your desire for pure chaos... On Monday 30/11/15, we have... Crazy Smash is no holds barred mayhem. Anything goes as all stages are allowed, including DLC and even custom stages! Items are ratcheted up to high, custom movesets are allowed and customisations are allowed as well. But that's not all! Oh no... Because in each round, there will be an unannounced set of special rules in place for even MORE chaos! You'll never know what absolute insane action awaits you until your match is about to begin! It could be a 300%, Bombs only Smash; or even an All Gust Bellows Smash on a tiny custom stage! Only anarchists need apply to these insane battles! As an added bonus, feel free to submit your own custom stages to my NNID and there's a decent chance that your crazy and insane stage will make an unexpected appearance during the tourney! (Try to keep it at less than 5 submissions per player please, just to save my sanity ) All three tourneys will be strictly 1 vs 1 and all matches will be set with a 3 minute time limit to ensure that match timings do not drag on for too long and keep other players waiting. For Glory and For Fun matches will feature 3 stocks while Crazy Smash may vary according to the rules in place for that match. The total size of each tourney bracket will ultimately be dependent on how many people choose to apply, but we're hoping for around 16 player brackets, single elimination, for each tourney. In terms of set up, I will be hosting all matches on my own Wii U across all three days. All players will need to add my NNID (Nuclear_Muffin) and just join me when their match is due to begin. I will lose all my stocks at the start of each match and then the battle begins! This is done so that we can have a nice easy setup where everyone who takes part need only add one NNID. It also means that I can record the results of each match and update the leaderboard that will be posted in the final Tourney Thread for all to see. It also means that I can capture video footage of each match as I aim to get a highlight reel of matches made, once the tourney is finished In terms of how the tourney timing will be set during each day, I'm actually looking to get your input here... Now with each match lasting 3 minutes, I was thinking around a 5 minute cooldown period in-between matches; just to give people time to connect and get into the room (and it also gives me a little time to update the leaderboard). If we go for that, then that means that each tourney bracket should last for about 2 hours if we manage to fill out a 16 person bracket. If you guys taking part feel that 5 minutes is enough preparation time for joining in each match (and if you don't, then please let me know!), then what 2 hour slot would most of you be comfortable with on each day? Oh and feel free to join more than one tourney bracket as well. Nobody said that you can only play For Glory or For Fun after all Just make sure that you let me know what 2 hour timeslot during the day that you're most comfortable with when signing up as I want to set the timeslot at the best possible time for everyone taking part! : peace:

The fact that we don't even have Dixie yet is crazy. She was even a cut character in Brawl! At this point, knowing her bad luck, Shantae will probably get in before her and take over the resident role of hair whipping fighter extrodonaire
-
Haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I'm glad to hear someone likes it I reckon it looks like good fun. How's Desert Island Escape? That's the mode I'm really looking forward to the most!)

Do you calibrate your TV correctly for games?
Dcubed replied to Rummy's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Not for games specifically, I just calibrate it according to professional standards, depending on the type of input (video and audio wise individually). It makes all the difference in the world to what you see on the screen. I wince whenever I go to an event of sorts and I see TVs with all the wrong settings (WHY WOULD YOU TURN THE SHARPNESS UP!? WHHHYYYYYYYY!?) If you're not gonna bother fine tuning your settings, at least turn sharpness down to zero on an LCD screen! For the love of everything that is holy, do it! LCD sharpness doesn't work like CRT sharpness! It just utterly destroys image quality when you turn it up on a HDTV! (there's something to be said for maybe a tiny amount on SD content, but not HD content! Set it straight to zero for that!) Also never adjust gamma controls to match a game. Just don't. -
NSMB Wii is the best 2D Mario game ever made. Simple as. Best level design out of the lot for sure. Awesome new powerups, a really great Battle multiplayer mode and really just a marvel of game design all round. Sure the visuals are kind of bland and not all that interesting, but it's got it where it counts : peace:

Err... it looks pretty and I like the jump shots... That's about it The loss of the charge return mechanic is a big blow And I've already seen and done practically everything in the game in less than an hour Man, this is not a finished game. This is an alpha, through and through. Amazingly enough, there's a built-in player banlist feature for online, but no friends option. Incredible! How!? How did this happen!? Amiibo support is a complete waste. Outside of online, you can only use it in Knockout Challenge and even there it's only 2v1! What's the point?! The computer is brain dead easy as it is! Even on the hardest difficulty! What a miserable little game It breaks my heart to say it, but I really can't recommend it. I'm a diehard MT fan, but even I have to recommend you avoid this one I'm not even going to get the physical one. I don't want it on my shelf
-
I've already done everything I can really do in MTUS! Still have characters to unlock, but I've basically already seen everything that game has to offer. What a shame I'll be sure to dive into MT64 again though! Plenty to do there!
-
Oh hey, just a heads up. The Mario Tennis 64 download code that comes with MTUS is actually redeemable now, so you can actually download it right now. I'm also glad to report that it is indeed the US 60hz version. No 50hz crap here thankfully! However it looks like there's no Transfer Pak support of any kind, so if you were hoping to unlock those extra courts, you're out of luck sadly...

WOAH WAT!? http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2015-hands-on-with-ps4-playstation2-emulation An official PS2 emulator actually exists for PS4 and is out now!? THE HELL!? Why the hell aren't they making use of it for more titles!? Why didn't they announce it!? That's kind of a big deal!! Seems to run VERY well! Much better than the PS3 emulation of PS2 titles did! Still not perfect quality mind you... But a damn sight better than the mess that the PS3 put out!

New Japanese trailer, goes over the new battle system and some of Paper Mario's moves. Looks boss! The battle cards look like a pretty cool mechanic and I like the idea of the overlapping paper characters in battle. Amiibo can also be used to activate special battle cards in battle it seems. Looks like this game focuses just on Mushroom Kingdom characters this time (just like Paper Mario Sticker Star). Didn't see a single non-Mario character, but on the other hand... KOOPALINGS ARE IN!!! Oh and Nabbit too I do hope that there's more focus on platforming/action based gameplay outside of battle this time, as this trailer seems to hint towards. I'm playing Dream Team at the moment and I am kind of pining for more involved gameplay outside of the battles!

I do have concerns over the sleepy pace of the game, but these types of party games never really review well anyway. What the hell was the NWR guy's problem with Mario Party 10 though? I really liked that one! There's a solid amount of content, the minigames and boards are great and most importantly, it got back the series meanstreak that MP9 took away! It encourages players to get nasty and that's great! About the only problems I really had with it were the budget looking menus, the lack of a proper title screen/intro, the inability to set different game lengths in badminton (which was a brilliant little sub game BTW!) and the announcer being missing. The game itself was great though!

Well that's not really anything to do with the Wii U's capabilities or Nintendo's attitudes towards online or anything like that. It's simply a matter of this game being released unfinished because they have nothing else to release in November (and no, Xenoblade is not a mainstream release). Personally I would rather have had nothing for Wii U for Xmas and have seen the game get put back in the oven to actually cook, but I realise that's an unrealistic expectation sadly, given the situation they found themselves in

PS4 version of VC1 is almost certainly a quick N' dirty port of the PC version, given the description and swift release. So don't expect any visual upgrades outside of resolution and 60FPS. The port itself is very solid on PC though, so I'm sure the PS4 version will be perfectly fine Was disappointed to hear that Valkyria OTBR wasn't an SRPG made by the Valkyria team, but rather it's a traditional RPG made by Media Vision that is set in a different world; but at least it's something new with the Valkyria name! At least it means that they haven't given up on Valkyria! (hey! Maybe it means that we're more likely to see VC 2 and 3 get English language remasters on PC/PS4 as well?)

Europe has lacked the ability to preload anything since... ever! Dunno why on earth NOE are seemingly incapable of following suit in that regard
-
He hasn't had a chance to play online yet, but there is definitely no option to play against friends at all. Ridiculous! You know... Given the stupid lack of time that Camelot had to make a new Mario Tennis game here, a HD one at that! (just a little over a year since MGWT), I think that Nintendo & Camelot would've been better off making a HD Remaster of Mario Power Tennis with that year instead and saving the next Mario Tennis game for NX... I think everyone would've been happier that way...
-
Good man! Undertale is a great RPG that's very reminiscent of the Earthbound series (and I'm not just saying that, it's clearly inspired by it - hell its director got his name from first making an Earthbound mod called Radiation's Halloween Hack)
-
I doubt he'll sell it. He knew that there was little content going in... I'm sure we'll still have a blast playing it together, but it's still just so sad. I get that Nintendo need a sacrificial lamb for Xmas so to speak and that Zelda and Star Fox Zero are more important games in the grand scheme of things, but still All I can suggest to him is that he finally plays Mario Tennis GBA (it's the one Mario Tennis game he hasn't played)
-
Aww man, my friend got his copy early and he's just telling me how incredibly crushed and disappointed he is Apparently there isn't even any special music for a tiebreaker So sad. There's basically no single player whatsoever I can't imagine that either Nintendo or Camelot are happy about the state of this game, it's blatently unfinished. But with Zelda and Starfox Zero delayed till next year, something has to release in November and Mario Tennis clearly drew the short straw Still, the whole thing is just so miserable

Pokemon Red, Blue & Yellow (3DS Virtual Console)
Dcubed replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
What if they made an app that transferred them to Pokemon Bank and just randomised the IVs, natures and reset the EVs, but kept the nicknames, moves and items (there aren't any in G/S/C that are inaccessible in Gen 6 are there? Mail? - They could always just disallow Pokemon that are carrying mail ) Or they could just release an update for Poke Transporter and just integrate said function into that... Either way I reckon that it should be possible if they wanted to, even if it isn't a perfect 1-1 copy (I'm sure most people who are transferring won't care much about EVs/IVs anyway - I mean, those Pokemon all generally would suck in competitive play anyway :p ) Would be pretty awesome to finally be able to move those Pokemon from the old school GB/GBC games over! -
Whelp! That's another £25 eShop voucher down the drain!
-
Meanwhile today I manage to catch 20 practice badges in one attempt and win 2 free plays! Then I try twice to get a Blathers badge and get nothing

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Dcubed replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Now while I personally still think that it wont happen (I don't think that the NX console is coming out till at least November 2017 - no way they sit on the game for that long), if they did, I would suspect that it would just be a resolution bump and that's about it. (maybe something else, depending on what new features the NX brings to the table, but I wouldn't know what that is until we see something of the console of course!) -
Personally I would go for the Large Screen option for the Zelda games (One screen on the TV, one on the Gamepad). Works great for the two Zelda DS games since there isn't really anything that's difficult to keep track of that spans across both screens (there are some boss encounters that play out on both screens simultaneously, but with how they're set up in these games, they should work just fine on Wii U). Gives you a huge canvas for the touch screen controls so they work very very well!
-
That's just insane! How can it not have such a basic option!? That makes it only the second Nintendo game with online play to not have a friends matching option at all! (the only other one being Pokemon D/P/P) The online is basically useless if I can't play with my friends!! This surely has to be coming in an update at least!?
