  1. About 10-15 hours Yes. There are loads of achievements (maybe 30 odd? Can't quite remember off the top of my head) Yeah, it's great fun. Voice chat works well too. It's a pretty straightforward evolution of LM2's multiplayer, so if you enjoyed that, you'll enjoy this too
  2. There are loads; and they're all of that same quality (though obviously nowhere near as long). There is no FMV used throughout the game, it's all in-game (including the opening you've seen). The game really does look that good (pretty sure it's native 1080p in docked too; might be dynamic, but if it is? it's really hard to tell because the image quality is utterly superb all throughout). Expect something similar to the second game in that regard. All of the animation throughout the entire game is just an absolute treat, it's like a multimillion £ budget Scooby Doo cartoon!
  3. It's about 10-15 hours for the main single player mode your first time through. Multiplayer will obviously extend its life further. I felt that it was the perfect length really. Didn't feel too short or too long, it felt just right
  4. That could be an issue if you exclusively use the right stick, but that's where the gyro controls come in; as they allow you to access to face buttons while you're moving the poltergust/flashlight around. Gyro controls can be switched off and they have 3 different sensitivity settings BTW. Pro Controller is supported and you can use the gyro controls in handheld mode if you so wish. There is also an option for Standard or Sidestep controls when using the poltergust/flashlight (I recommend Standard - I think it's Sidestep by default though, which might explain some people's issues... especially if they have an irrational hatred for any form of motion controls and refuse to try them). I never had any issues with the controls personally though and didn't feel it was worth bogging down the review in talking much about them really; if you've played a previous LM game, you're gonna be very comfortable with the controls here. Well structurally the original Luigi's Mansion is very heavily based off of the original Resident Evil games; with that kind of lock and key design. I really wanted to mention it because it's a big part of why Luigi's Mansion 3's game structure is so heavily different from the second game (and yet still different from the first) and why that's such a big deal. It's not quite like the original, since it actually has a mixture of linear and non-linear floors, but it is much closer to the first game than the second in that regard; and it carries over a lot of the design language of both the original game and the classic Resident Evil games. I think what surprised me the most though, structurally speaking anyway, is how much the game/puzzle design ended up reminding me of Four Swords Adventures, with the whole Gooigi mechanic. If you like FSA, I reckon you'll really enjoy what they've done here
  5. I would strongly advise against skipping it... Luigi's Mansion 3 Click me if you dare!
  6. The guy is an absolute ham. Of course he's playing up his persona for laughs/to rile people up. The guy's an amateur wrestler FFS! Ham is what he IS! He clearly enjoys his work and is doing it because he genuinely cares about gaming as a whole. He's been doing it for so long and seen so much endless industry BS that he simply just has to see the funny side of all of the endless negativity; at this point, you'd go utterly mad if you didn't! Anyone else covering industry news like this would just simply burn out if you couldn't enjoy the funny side of each train crash! I for one, absolutely love his shtick. It's actually not really negative, because he's making something positive out of the industry's endless tragedy And he does indeed make positively slanted content. He does this regularily in his Jimpressions videos and he has dedicated past Jimquisitions to positively slanted content... none of which is nearly as popular as his negatively slanted videos. So he goes out of his way to take all of the endless negative stuff that comes out of the industry and paints it in a hilarious way to make something fun out of it! I always await each Monday with gleeful anticipation, not because I enjoy watching the world burn, but because I love his hammy and ridiculous takes on the neverending cavalcade of disaster that comes out of this industry The stuff that comes out of this industry on a weekly (sometimes even daily!) basis honestly just beggars belief; no other industry has such utterly brazen contempt for its customers, nor engages in such utterly rampant stupidity. You honestly couldn't make this stuff up, and yet it's all real! At the end of the day... you've just gotta laugh at it all
  7. Doing God's work there. Fantastic!
  8. In that case you have no grasp of reality then. That price is literally impossible. The NVME SSD alone will cost around £150-200... never mind the rest of the hardware... Hell, the Xbox One X is STILL retailing for $499.99/£449.99. $499.99 is the absolute minimum that the PS5 will cost (and that's an absolute Hail-Mary!) Then they're missing out on the opportunity to use the game as a way of selling people on upgrading their hardware to play the better version of the game. By the time the PS5 launches, the game will be old hat and already circulating bargain bins as people look to newer and shinier games. Different situations and different times. Sony wasn't nearly as reliant on 1st party games back then as they are now. The PS4 also won by default, with the Wii U already having cratered and Sony getting very lucky with Microsoft shooting themselves in the foot with their hardware choices (which they surely had some insider tips about) and their always-online DRM disasterpiece. That lucky scenario will not be repeating itself this time around. 2013 is not 2020. Exclusive content matters so much more now; and streaming services now lead the way. Netflix earned its success off the back of its original shows and now Sony relies much more heavily on its own first party heavy hitters than ever before in their history. Taking a lackadaisical attitude towards your new console launch and expecting things to play out as they did before is exactly what they shouldn't be doing... Agreed. It's not exactly the same as it was before for Nintendo, but then the onus is on Sony to give people a reason to upgrade. If the graphical upgrade isn't enough, then PS5 needs to bring something else to the table to make it worthwhile... It's still on them to lead the way and right now, they will have no major first party games ready for release alongside the PS5. Going by their current developer schedule, none of their first party studios are due to release anything within the next year (except for Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch... too bad their games aren't releasing on PS5...). Their only options for a first party release on PS5 right now are Bluepoint (who are almost certainly working on Demon Souls Remastered; there's a bit of irony for you) and maybe something from Japan Studio (who are a bit of a hot mess right now); though I suppose it's also possible that Insomniac might have something for launch as well, but considering that they only just acquired them? That's not terribly likely. Sony needs major first party exclusives to entice people to upgrade. As things stand, they will not have any. That is a big problem in a time now where exclusives are what really matter. I do agree that people have been desensitised to higher prices thanks to the smartphone market. But without an incentive to upgrade? Why would they bother? And if they don't explode out of the gate? Then that's gonna discourage developers from jumping on board early... which then exacerbates the problem (chicken and egg scenario). It's not 2013 anymore. That kind of thinking is long out of date. Sony need to adjust to the current reality.
  9. Because it would give them a killer exclusive on day 1 to sell their shiny new, super expensive console? Doesn't even have to be PS5 exclusive. Could be a day-and-date cross-generation release ALA BOTW/Twilight Princess. The potential ramifications on PS5 launch sales (which is of course, priority No1 for Sony right now) are obvious. It seems like a no-brainer move and ignoring the obvious benefits of this move seems like a huge mistake to me... Especially seeing as how TLOU 2 will be launching just a few months before the PS5 now (and GOT probably not even launching until AFTER the PS5 now!) And even BC wouldn't stop it from being a huge deal on day 1; just look at Twilight Princess. The GCN version was playable on Wii, but the Wii version still ended up vastly outselling its GCN counterpart (despite the Wii being much more expensive than the GCN was at the time, and despite the Wii being almost impossible to buy for two whole years!). Sony are throwing away a big potential hardware mover at a time when they really need to be pushing out PS5 consoles as fast as possible. I'm telling you, if the price is as high as we are all expecting it to be, this console is gonna really struggle out of the gate; especially if Sony are throwing away potential opportunities like this with their late game PS4 titles...
  10. Tonight was a good night!
  11. I have no idea where they got those impressions from because they're both completely wrong...
  12. TLOU 2 got delayed till May 29th (and apparently Ghosts of Tsushima also got delayed internally) https://www.resetera.com/threads/jason-schreier-kotaku-the-last-of-us-part-ii-delayed-to-spring-may-29th-2020.148939/ I honestly don’t see why they should bother releasing them on PS4 at this point. Why not just port them over to PS5 and make them launch titles? Hell, they could still have them as cross-gen releases! It makes no sense to release TLOU on PS4 just 6 months before the PS5 launch date (and GOT might not even land on PS4 before PS5 even launches now!). The less said about Dreams as well, the better. Edit: Looks like Ubisoft are getting in on the delay action... https://www.resetera.com/threads/ubisoft-delays-watch-dogs-legion-rainbow-six-quarantine-and-gods-monsters-to-the-next-fiscal-year.148968/ If these don’t all become PS5 launch titles now? I’ll eat a PS4 controller.
  13. That ad is borderline false advertising. It would’ve been amazing... had every Pokemon actually have been included...
  14. Better late than never! (In short, this port is a miracle!) And yes, they're right. The battle music totally sounds like 60s Batman!
  15. Mini Jim in 3...2...1... Edit: There it is!
  16. https://www.1101.com/gccxmother/en/ HUGE 7-part interview with Shigasato Itoi and Arino Kacho (GameCentre CX) on the Mother/Earthbound series! And it's officially translated into Engish on Itoi's site!
  17. Perfect for the survival horror game that is Tetris 99!
  18. Congrats on your site's 20th anniversary @Serebii! There really aren't many sites that end up celebrating such a milestone!
  19. I'd guess that it would be more like the second game in terms of length. The level-based structure of the hotel lends itself well to a longer game length anyway.
  20. Title pretty much says it all. What game consoles did you have growing up and what games for "enemy" systems did you secretly pine for? Might as well start the thread with my own I suppose, it is the done thing after all! 1: SNES My first crush Our household got a SNES more or less on day 1 along with Super Mario World, I was about 3 years old and I was instantly hooked on the plumbers! Naturally, from that point on I was a Nintendroid 4 lyfe and wouldn't be caught DEAD with a smelly old SEGA!! Though in the background... I harboured a secret lust... That lust was for the Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy. I had a friend growing up who had the Mega Drive, while I had the SNES. Naturally I'd always say that the SNES was wayyyyy better! But I did secretly love the Sonic games (I was also partial to Alex the Kid and Moonwalker but shhhh, don't tell anyone that ) Next up? 2: Super Game Boy Shut up! It IS a console! I actually never had a brick Game Boy (or a Game Boy Pocket for that matter!) when growing up. Instead, my first foray into portable gaming was actually not portable at all! I got this for Xmas in 1994 along with Link's Awakening and DK94 and absolutely fell in love all over again! Here though, I always did pine for a brick Game Boy of my own; as I saw my friends with their own ones (along with Wario Land, which I wanted so bad!), but ultimately I was very happy playing these games on my telly! My library would steadily increase over time, naturally, but I wouldn't actually end up taking them portable... yet... Next comes the big one! 3: Nintendo 64 Pretty accurate depiction of me circa age 9 Never had I wanted something so bad! I was that kid, feverishly combing every single magazine he could find, about information regarding the upcoming Ultra 64. I NEEDED this thing and I needed it now!!! I was not disapointed! Super Mario 64 was all I needed that year and it was everything I could've wished for! Absolutely blew my tiny little kiddy brain to tiny pieces! Turok was kinda fun too, @Glen-i had that one. From there, the wait for new games was absolute torture... I eventually got Pilotwing 64, Wave Race 64, Starfox 64... you know, the big name Nintendo and Rare games that literally everyone bought; but the wait in-between each title was utterly agonising (and this was also a period where the Game Boy was drying up... well... until 1998 that is...). It was around this time that I looked to the PS1 in envy of games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Dancing Stage and Metal Gear Solid (though oddly enough, the RPGs never really appealed to me; though I did love Secret of Mana and Mystic Quest on the SNES, the PS1 RPGs never really grabbed me as a kid. Of course, my opinions on the PS1's RPG lineup has changed since, but back then? I actually wasn't really enthralled by the Final Fantasy games at all). It was never really the big name PS1 titles that grabbed my attention (Crash has always been, and still is, an utterly mediocre platforming series), but rather the smaller and more oddball titles like Intelligent Qube and the Point Blank games that always interested me. I also never really went through that "tude" phase that teenagers back then were basically prescribed either, so perhaps that helps explain why I was never really enthralled by the most popular PS1 games back then? Either that, or the sheer dearth of N64 releases that was absolutely killing me Anyway! Let's see what's next... 4: Game Boy Color The best mis-spelt console of all time! 1998 came along and I FINALLY won my childhood lust! At last! I could take all my Game Boy games on the go! And in COLOUR! Wahey! Of course, naturally, Pokemon Red/Blue was the big name game (though ironically, it wasn't actually a GBC game), but I was more enthralled by the GB/GBC library as a whole. It was here that I really started plumbing the depths of the library and started developing a more eclectic taste in games (it also helps that it was at this point where I could finally start affording to buy games on my own, instead of just getting them on birthdays and at Xmas). The Wario Land series, Mario Land 2, Wave Race GB, DK Land, Mario Golf and so many more! It was here that I really developed an appreciation for Nintendo as a developer, and not just a love for specific series of games. Sadly, there still weren't really all that many good 3rd party games for the system, being far and few inbetween. But luckily it wasn't long until I sought to rectify that wrong and make the biggest jump in taste possible for a 12 year old kid... 5: SEGA Dreamcast To be this good takes ages... TRAITOR!!!!!!! A traitor most foul!!! Yes, I fulfilled my other childhood lust and became a SEGA turncoat. I regretted nothing! I went nuts and developed an all new love for arcade hits like Crazy Taxi, Power Stone and Virtua Tennis, a love for oddball games like Chu Chu Rocket and Mr Driller and at last a chance to finally have my own Sonic game! I loved this system to pieces; and I still do. I didn't get all of its big hitters on the actual system itself though... as my Dreamcast ended up getting stolen by burglers during its prime It wasn't until years later that I ended up buying another one, but I still enjoyed games like Sonic Adventure 2, Crazy Taxi (again!) and Skies of Arcadia on the Gamecube in the interim. Having a Dreamcast really made me wish that I had a Mega Drive and a Saturn back in the day, but ahh well. You can't have it all (well... until you're an adult of course ). I bet you guys can't guess what console came next... 6: Game Boy Advance Was always annoyed that we didn't get that colourful bootup screen... Still am... This was the first console that I bought with my own money... and I went ALL in! No regrets! This thing was my life as a teen! So many first loves! And it was the first time that I really bought a full library along the way. It was also the first time that I started buying imports (there was no way I was waiting a full year for Golden Sun: The Lost Age to come out in Europe!) and the first time I really went out of my way to buy 3rd party titles on a Nintendo system (THPS2 was mindblowing!). GBA really left me wanting for nothing, for the first time... well except for one other machine... 7: Nintendo Gamecube Still the biggest marketing lie in all of gaming history... IT'S A CUBOID DAMMIT!! No surprise whatsoever, I loved this thing! And I bought every major title that came its way (mostly during its life cycle, but some came afterwards). While I was mostly happy with my cuboid love box, I did end up looking elsewhere in envy towards the end of the generation; especially as the Gamecube's lineup dried up and started reminding me of the dark days of N64 droughts... Most notably at the PS2 (for games like Katamari Demacy, Okami, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus and Devil May Cry), but also at the Xbox for its SEGA games (not much else though). So come towards the end of the generation... what did I buy next? 8: Playstation 1 Hey! It was new to me! Instead of going with the PS2, I instead went back to the past! Finally, I could play Metal Gear Solid (which I thankfully played before its terrible GCN remake!), Final Fantasy 7-9 (After I developed a love for the series by playing Final Fantasy 1&2 and Final Fantasy 4 Advance) and Chrono Cross (after going on a retro import binge with the SNES and playing games like Crono Trigger for the first time). But it would only be about a year or so before I took the plunge and bought... 9: Playstation 2 No way was I buying that stupidly ugly fat version! Just in time for the tail end of the generation, I bought a PS2 slim and caught up on all of the games I mentioned before. This was a US import console, meaning that I could also get my hands on US only games like Tales of the Abyss (which I was gagging for after playing and loving Tales of Symphonia! It wasn't as good as that game though.). This definitely sustained me in those last 2 years or so, when the Gamecube lineup dried up and when the Nintendo DS lineup hadn't really gotten going yet... 10: Every subsequent console released since then (Except for Xbox One) From this point onwards, I became totally platform agnostic and bought pretty much everything that came out from that point onwards (except for the Xbox One... partially because of the always-online DRM and partially because PC basically made it totally redundant). I also went back and bought a Saturn and many other retro systems (including the NES, Virtual Boy and Commodore 64). Here ends my odyssey. How about your own? What games and consoles did you envy as a kid? Tell us your journey!
  21. Quarter finals of the Classic Tetris World Championship 2019 are running right now! https://www.twitch.tv/classictetris BOOM!
  22. Surprised that they didn’t point out that that version of Strider isn’t unique to the Strider 2 package; it’s actually re-packaged from the Japanese Capcom Generations series. That version is also available on Saturn, PS2, Xbox and PSP/Vita (the latter three being part of Capcom Classics Collection). Actually, Capcom Classics Collection is still available on the PSN store to this day! If you have a Vita and/or PlayStation TV, I highly recommend you pick up the two Capcom Collections on there! It’s currently the only way to play the arcade versions of Strider and Ghosts N’ Goblins (amongst many other Capcom games) on modern devices (and yes, it is indeed whitelisted on PlayStation TV; I have it on my own PSTV, so I know it works! Looks and plays fantastic on one! )
  23. Microsoft were in the same position going into this generation, that Sony we’re going into the next. The 360 was a runaway hit, especially during its second life with Kinect, well ahead of the PS3, and nobody thought that they could do wrong. And then they blew it... in spectacular fashion. They conceded the entire generation through a single 2 hour long presentation. Just like that, ALL of the goodwill and brand loyalty they cultivated over 8 years through the 360 was shattered into 1,000 pieces. I’m not trying to say that Microsoft are definitely gonna win this time around; all I’m saying is that they’ve positioned themselves well to come out swinging. Sony winning next gen is by no means a sure thing... If history should’ve taught us anything it’s that pride comes before a fall, and that nothing is certain in this industry. To win this generation, all Sony had to do was to just not screw up, and just put out a generic box for a reasonable price. They did that and they won. They did well to hold their ground throughout the generation too. PS4 Pro was arguably not quite the upgrade that it should’ve been, but it did well enough to keep the active user base from leaving for Xbox/PC. PS VR was also a moderate success; probably not the break-out hit that Sony were expecting and hoping for, but it’ll no doubt be forward compatible and will continue to see support on PS5. Credit where credit is due, Sony did a good job of holding their ground and staving off potential threats throughout the first 2/3 of the generation. However, these last two years have not been great and they’ve not been on their best form. They pushed out the last set of titles that they promised all the way back near the launch window period and scored a winner with Spider Man (as well as a big win acquisition with Insomniac; a move that came as a direct response to Microsoft’s recent aggressive buying up of studios). Microsoft bollocked up this generation; nobody with a working brain cell would deny that. However, in this last third of this generation, they’ve made huge strides in the right direction and they’ve come out with some genuine disruptive innovations like Game Pass. I think that this next Gen fight is far from decided; and that Sony really need to drop their pride and really start getting more aggressive again. Buying Insomniac and exclusive content in games like COD is a start. They need to really follow through, and to stop relying on being reactive to the competition. They need to be proactive, or else they’re gonna get taken by surprise this time around.
  24. That's very true. Sony have never really had a console with a strong launch lineup (ironically, the PS console with the best launch lineup was the Vita of all things!). I don't think they're going to start now with that either TBH. But I think that's a mistake this time around... especially since they've really bolstered their 1st party output this generation and that's their only real software advantage over Microsoft. Given that the PS5 is going to be undoubtedly launching at an astronomical price? I think that it might well struggle out of the gate this time as people lack an incentive to upgrade from their PS4s... I agree. We're not going to be seeing the big reset that we've seen in the past... But at the same time, we also aren't going to see the big impentus to upgrade that we did before, because most of the games will be cross-generation for a good couple of years or so and the new console prices are going to be sky high... ... Microsoft has Game Pass; a huge feather in their cap (especially in the wake of the next generation and their eye watering hardware pricetags...). They'll also have 3 generations of backwards compatibility, not just one. They also have full cross-play/cross-save support with other platforms and they have synergy with Switch & PC on their side too. Microsoft are also being a lot more agressive than Sony regarding pricing, services, developer support, aquisitions and marketing; and they are currently in control of the general gaming mindshare; with Sony's no-show at E3 and current lack of games to show currently biting them in the arse (the price they pay for selling the PS4 on half-empty promises throughout the generation). Sony on the other hand are resting on their laurels and have been totally complaicent over the last two years. They've grown arrogant; especially regarding anything to do with cross-play. Right now, they think that their farts smell like dandilions; how quickly they forget that they only won this generation by default, because their competition destroyed themselves... It isn't 2013 anymore. Back then, the smartphone market was only just starting to kick into high gear, streaming services weren't really a thing (Netflix had only just launched in the UK) and retail was still the primary way that people bought games. Subscription services are now becoming the big thing, and Microsoft are well ahead of Sony on that front. Nothing is set in stone and it's still anyone's game to win (and Sony's to lose). If Sony carry on with their current arrogant attitude, they may well find themselves back on the back foot again...
  25. Their big titles will probably be Ghost of Tsushima, TLOU2, Death Stranding, FF7 Remake, COD 2020, FIFA 21 and Demon Souls Remastered (their one big PS5 exclusive). I don't think there will actually be much that is exclusive. If Sony was planning to have a big series of exclusive titles for the PS5's launch, they would've held back Death Stranding, FF7 Remake and TLOU2 for the PS5's launch window. They are seemingly happy with going with cross-generation titles for the launch window.
