I think it looks quite nice myself. It has that jerky motion that is emblematic of the series style. It’s very reminiscent of Ultimate Ghosts N’ Goblins in particular. If there’s anything that looks particularly off though, it’s the lack of dynamic lighting and the ugly looking HUD. Gameplay looks hella fun though! I’m liking the look of the level design already

The Game Awards 2020 (10th December 2020)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Pretty hilarious how Geoff is just rushing through the actual awards to get back to the adverts trailers -
Not terribly happy to see the return of Red Head Joanna, but I’m glad to finally see it announced! Cautiously optimistic about this one

Resident Evil 4 feels dated now...
Dcubed replied to CrowingJoe79's topic in General Gaming Discussion
They shouldn’t. Any attempt at an RE4 remake in the vein of RE2 Remake will be a complete disaster. It’s absolutely impossible for them to make a game of the same scope as RE4 with modern HD graphics. They will have to gut about 70-80% of the content if they even hope to ship it some time this decade. -
Nintendo shut down a publicly streamed, large scale tournament that relied on piracy and a mod of their game? No shit they shut it down.

Resident Evil 4 feels dated now...

It does indeed! As does both the Wii U and the Switch versions. Ironically, every single RE port on Switch supports gyro controls for aiming... except for RE4... -

There is no such thing as outdated gameplay. -
Yup. The only mainline DQ game that hasn't been remade yet is DQIX; and I'd be absolutely floored if it doesn't happen on Switch before the end of its lifecycle in 2023. The console is such a ridiculously natural fit for DQIX's multiplayer mode that it begs for a remake to come to it! Even DQ10 and DQ11 have already had remakes! (of sorts)
-
The PC/PS4/Xbone ports of DQXIs are based on the Switch version; including the downgraded visuals. Really though? I think the whole thing regarding the visuals is really overblown. Yes there is a downgrade, but its really very minor; plus you actually get substantially improved performance on PS4 Pro/XboneX (now running at 60FPS!) in return. DQ11s is, by far, the better version of the game. It does suck that S-E are delisting the original version though.

Honestly? Prices for non-Nintendo games drop so incredibly fast these days that you'd be absolutely mad to buy on Day 1. Not to mention that you also get a better game if you wait for them to iron out all the bugs and bundle in all the DLC, after the Day 1 buyers have beta tested it for you. Games aint what they used to be.

Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light (4th December 2020)

Oh, BTW. Nintendo released a PDF manual for this game too! https://t.co/Y42S9zUBBm?amp=1 Nice. -
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & The Blade of Light (4th December 2020)

Just started playing it! I bloody love it! It's so incredibly surreal to finally be playing it in English! After numerous failed attempts to fumble through the Japanese version before, it's so great to finally be able to play it in English! It's still a ton of fun! Early Installment Weirdness up the wazoo! (Who needs to see what damage you're gonna actually do to your enemy anyway!? Oh? Marth can just casually move 7 spaces? Cool! 80% hit chance means that you're never hitting anything ever? Awesome!) I'm onto chapter 3 now and I'm really enjoying it! So nice to be able to play a proper, old school style Fire Emblem again! Really cool hearing the really adorable original NES renditions of classic tunes as well! -
At least I got the joke... We're getting old Glen

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (20th November 2020)
Dcubed replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
To be fair though, we were purposely trying to make it as bad as possible there for laughs. It's not normally THAT bad in multi. -
Super interesting... https://twitter.com/LuigiBlood/status/1334673225339514881 Looks like Fire Emblem SD&TBoL on Switch is actually a Wii U Virtual Console port! It's using the original Wii U Virtual Console emulator and not NERD's one they use on the NES Mini/NSO! So it seems that this localisation has actually been done for years and Nintendo just decided to sit on it! Also, this is the first time that they have actually ported over the Wii U VC emulator onto Switch! It doesn't use NERD's NES emulator! So it is a proper VC release! Supposedly the internal emulator name is the same one used between both NES and N64... Also the English translation is being patched into the Japanese ROM on the fly in real time, so unfortunately it looks like it can't be easily extracted... I bet they did this around the same time they released Earthbound Beginnings... They probably had plans to start localising loads of other JPN only games... including Mother 3/Earthbound Endings... I bet they have a full localisation already done and just waiting to be released...

Sony has gone 3rd party lol
-
Oh really? Yeah, that’s gonna end up resulting in piracy for sure. It’s ALWAYS a web exploit that ends up doing them in...

Clearly Arika prefer 2D Mario to 3D Mario. It's the only explanation

Shh... don’t give them any ideas! If we pretend we don’t know, they can’t cancel it

Not yet. I was indeed holding out for the Switch port; but of course, I now have a Series X and Game Pass... so... Yeah, will be interesting to see how it compares. As nice as it’ll be on Series X though, it won’t have portability or Gyro controls; so the Switch version still has unique value.
-
I’ll probably still get it on Switch for the portability and gyro aiming, even though I have it on Game Pass on Series X. Once again, Microsoft/Xbox Game Studios is the best 3rd party publisher on Switch
