  1. I don't think I managed to finish season 1 - stupid online streaming poo faces.
  2. I'm glad it's been useful Yeah, that teacher route is always a possibility for an english post-grad. Thing is I'm far too lazy to do class plans and hate the idea of getting up at 7am. If I could just mark people's work from home, I'd be fine.
  3. I can give you some pointers on what to look into. There are some useful websites out there. The victorian web is very, very respected and much touted by my tutors and lecturers, although it doesn't specifically look at the poem you are writing on. Do you have university access to JSTOR? Always a good resource.
  4. Just found some odd lumps on the inside of my left thumb. I think I'm dying. Ffs.
  5. I don't think you understood what I meant :P I never implied that you did it the way I did it, I was merely sharing my own anecdotes. Been t'sainsbury's to get some more diet coke as I ran out. Read over ganepark's essay, thus avoiding my own one. Been pondering on whether it's a good or a bad thing that university qualifications are based on how not-lazy you are, rather than how good/bad you are at a subject. I guess it's only fair.
  6. No idea how to do any of the images above. I just copy/pasted the url and replaced the gamertag.
  7. balancing speed with usefulness and demand/frequency of use... I don't think it's too shoddy :P Also; why a poll?! Like, for anything at all.
  8. Wtf you're going to own a castle?! That's insane!
  9. Well I thought that for the countries one too - only he's listed basically all of the continents so you kinda have to pick the one you live in. Bit poor as the results from that question won't correlate to the ealier question asking which country you come from properly (the data can be used to say "look, see - 100% of the surveyed people have considered going to gigs in west europe! that means we have a market for this!)...
  10. I think Sheikah's annoyance comes from the fact that he even considered using those kind of sites. No matter how awful I feel after handing in an essay I know that it's my work, my fault, my praise. I also know that there will definitely be other people who have cheated, and they've contributed to lowering my mark a point or two. The annoyance comes from knowing I could have just as easily cheated like them too, but I didn't and I don't get recognition for it. But! The poor dude in this case admits he was weak when he was thinking about it. We all know it's wrong, so who cares no more, eh!
  11. ESSAY DAY! 5pm and I've not started it yet. FIgure I might as well read the books first. James Joyce - A Portrait of a Young Man, D. H. Lawrence - Women in Love and Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway. If I spend all day reading I can probably get Joyce and Woolf done for essay tomorrow, but we're talking 500 pages in total... Well, I got 48 hours to do this. Send it my way, if you like mofo! Lol... I've accidentally locked your door as I left before! You knock the bit on the inside and it locks when it closes. In my first year everyone on my floor locked themselves out at some point :P I was lucky enough to do it before everyone had moved in, so some of the doors were still open. I slept on a bed and waited for the landlord to arrive the next day and unlock me for freeee, woot. But £40 for a call-out charge when they're up the fucking road is another thing entirely. Check your contract to see if there's supposed to be staff on site on saturdays. If it says yes then you are entirely in your rights to complain that you had to pay when it should've been free. Good luck with that shit.
  12. Just did it myself. I would say the 'reason you don't travel for festivals' thingy question needs a bigger box, as I listed about four reasons. Oh wait - No, I can't do it. I haven't been to those websites and you don't have a tick-box option so I can say "none of the above". Not ticking them if I haven't gone, and not going there just because a questionnaire wants me to.
  13. Hooray for ye! I'm glad I encouraged underage drinking at the meet-up. So this cider you got... I'm sure you owe me a can or two. Send it my way, love.
  14. Yeah that was posted a few weeks back Pretty cool - shame it's done backwards (facebook has newest news at the top and oldest at the bottom; the picture has newest news at the bottom)
  15. (Mundi originally didn't put his post in a spoiler tag so I repeated what he said but replaced most of the words with 'spoilar')
  16. you're such an internet noob.
  17. yeah true :P I just couldn't resist...
  18. Could also be an aspiring pop idol - and with Odwin as the father I would be worried...
  19. Had a quick go at the new dash! I never really use half the stuff on dashboard anyway - seeing as it's not even my xbox - so I'll probably relish the option to delete entire menus. Liking the achievement visability, and the weemii (whatever the fuck they're called) things are fairly fun, but limited to some extent. No blue hair (though hairstyle damn close) means I went a bit bonkers and just made a freak. Looks like there'll be some additional wardrobe items, perhaps as dlc for promoting new up-coming games. Would like to have some 'items' they could pull out and play with - like 'trophies'. Gold Lancer for owning gears 2 special edition... a katamari dude.. whatever. Uh, yeah. The last thing is the in-game options menu that you get now. Achievements easier to access, and generally looks neater. That reminds me; signout doesn't have an allocated button, and the 'shut down console' option is miles away. Mind you, I didn't try just holding the jewell down!
  20. What the heck you going to shoot me with? A seedling? a cup of shoes? Lies.
  21. You mean you found it weird when he seemingly didn't spoilar much that his spoilar was spoilar, at least in the spoilar where he spoilar their spoilar?
  22. Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake! EDIT: *insert codec noise to avoid badger confusion*
  23. .. I read all of those as 'flapjack furniture' and had an amusing yet a little disturbing image of jordan sobbing as he assembled a crusty bread made from caramelised porridge. I must admit I'm rather dissapointed that this was not the case. Next time I have flapjack, I must remember to try and make furniture with it. Watched about 15 episodes of House today. Probably mentioned that already. Caught up with smallville. Pretty damn ace. Mentioned that too? Sorry... Ate quavers and tinned tmatoes and pesto and hot pepper sauce and chicken and chips. I R NO SPEELY! Not sp-- SLEEPY. Yweah. Not really. Maybe. Can't tell. Don't know what to do. Want to watch something? Play? No idea. Who knows. I don't know. I don't know about you; you might know, but that would be weird. You shouldn't know. ESSAY WEEKEND AHEAD! brb cola-get.
  24. Max Payne I nearly fell asleep lots. The focus was shoddy and all over the place, seemingly wavering between utter predictability and utter nonsense. There were several shades of bad acting, and I've never played the game. BUT the art direction was quite nice. Not entirely sure it suited the pacing of the movie much, though. The slow-mo bits were too slow and too long and not all that impressive, but the random drug-enduced madness was all good. The character of TsomethingIorOattheend, and the whole drug thing was really glossed over and used as an excuse to fuel a fairly arbitrary revenge storyline. Mark Wahlberg, I still believe, cannot act, and his script was in desperate need of some hardcore one-liners. 4/10, and that 4 only for the camera work - I kept imagining what the film would've been like if there was less focus on Payne and more distant shots that actually introduced characters more than a split second before they had a line. Imagine a Fargo-style shooting. Way better. Slow the film down, let the tension hit us. And the ice looked so much like bits of plastic it completely spoiled the illusion. There were too many characters introduced/killed off too quickly to care for, and none of the ones that stuck around long enough had any depth. There was an excellent chance for nipples, and I don't recall seeing the mutilated baby corpse at all. I can't remember what certificate this was, probably a 12a, but I reckon as an 18 it could've been something. Felt like a draft version of a real movie. Ok I'm going to stop now. Shoot 'Em Up did it sooo much better.
  25. Small tip; Show don't tell. That means if you're going to say "my head is sore" then you're leaving nothing to the imagination. Try to use metaphor, simile or just more elaborate description - juxtaposition is good. My heart beats slowly While my ears listen again To the words you speak When you open your mouth vs. My heart stumbles As my ears self-amused To the ode you hiss With each sob perused The connotations a reader has with "beats slowly" aren't very wide ranging, as opposed to "stumbles" which can summon drunken foolishness, accidental falling, whatever whatever. "speak" is a flat word that does act as a tonal indicator, but doesn't show much emotion - more a lack of emotion, whereas hiss can seem more angry or pissed off, which in reflection to 'stumbles' can produce "more complex" imagery. I'm not pretending that I'm any good at poetry, but I just find that I enjoy reading stuff that makes my mind think that bit more. Also; 'agency' is basically being able to identify who in the poem says/does what. "I" and "You" are obvious, but when there is no 'marker' identifying the agent it requires the reader to perhaps imagine the scene on a more personal basis.
