If Nintendo charge to play online with the NX, would you pay?
Fierce_LiNk replied to Hero-of-Time's topic in Nintendo Gaming
I agree with @Helmsly, particularly the bit I've highlighted below: Are there enough online games, features and functions on Nintendo systems to warrant a cost for playing online? It's arguable, but I'd personally say no. The library there just simply hasn't been enough with their previous systems and we haven't seen enough so far with the Switch to warrant that cost. It's not about the cost itself, it's about value for money. -
Ultra Street Fighter 2 - The Final Challengers (2017)
Fierce_LiNk replied to Serebii's topic in Nintendo Gaming
This is the Switch's equivalent of Tekken Tag Tournament 2, which appeared on the WiiU. It's a big name (Street Fighter) and it's more for bragging rights than anything. Although, Tekken was good fun. Crazy price. -
Nintendo Switch - Happy Switchmas Everyone!

It's also not great value for money when you factor in that it'll most likely have the smallest long-term library of games due to third party support either drying up or just not being there from the start. If the system is considerably weaker than the One/PS4 and is closer to the PS3/360 (which is what has been said), then that's going to make things even harder when it comes to porting across those top tier games which the system needs to survive. If it's not going to get the multiplatforms, then you look at exclusives. Obviously, you have the Nintendo games. But, if the system isn't selling (for whatever reason) and non-Nintendo software isn't shifting on the Switch, then where is the incentive for other big name developers to come and make exclusive games or titles specifically for the Switch? That's what we mean when we talk about third party support. We are talking about two things: multiplatforms and exclusives. I worry for the system as it's coming off the back of a failure. This could have long-term implications for Nintendo. -
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wii U / Switch
Fierce_LiNk replied to darkjak's topic in Nintendo Gaming
This game looks fantastic and should be miles better than the tripe that was Skyward Sword. Voice acting, too! Sign me up. I just hope the plot lives up to it all. This is a bummer. I'm also a bit confused about it running better undocked than docked. How come? I just hope the difference between WiiU and Switch isn't too great. -

That is a solution, but then it's also paying for more hardware. It's just another thing to think about. -
This was the one game I was previously pumped for but I'm a bit mixed about it now. Some areas of the game look undeniably fantastic. However, I didn't dig that city bit at all. I feel that a city landscape could work and I'm all for that, but I didn't fall for its execution. I can't tell whether it's Mario's character model compared with the other NPCs or whether it's the colour palette or something or other, but the two didn't mesh very well for me. It looks a little rough around the edges, but I have no doubt that it'll be fantastic when it comes around.

The voice chat "solution" on Switch doesn't work as...you don't have enough hands. You need two hands to hold the Switch plus JoyCons (yuck). But, you also need a hand to hold onto your phone. What's the solution there? Place the phone on your lap? Ok, but surely the volume will worsen as the microphone will be further away? -
Deflated is a good way to describe what I'm feeling about the Switch right now...not that I was very inflated to begin with. I guess that makes the drop not so bad. If I hadn't bought another console by now, I definitely would have right after that conference.

What the fuck is this? Is this legit? This is just the WiiU all over again. -
Will you be getting a Switch at launch? No fucking way. I'm now even more dubious about the system after that presentation and can't see myself owning it for a long time. We'll probably get Zelda on the WiiU (provided that version isn't gimped). Given that I haven't touched the WiiU in ages and actually dislike the thing, that's saying something.

I woke up a bit earlier than usual and checked out the reactions from this thread. It was quite funny reading the initial positive reactions until reality kicked in. Still, I thought I'd carry on with my day and go into the Switch Presentation with an open mind when @Eenuh and I watch it in the evening. We've just finished watching it and...I'm completely fucking disappointed. I'm struggling to find a reason to own the thing and I don't think I actually like all that much about it. The voice chat thing is hilarious. I don't get it. Why the app on the smart device? If we're going to do that, why not just skype instead? I don't see the point. The pricing for the system is a bit shit and I'm not convinced with how much long-term support the system will be getting. I felt that the whole presentation was aimed entirely at Japan, as does the Switch itself. I get it, Nintendo are a Japanese company, etc. But, this is a global product. I found the whole thing difficult to watch, tbh. As much as I enjoyed the Wii, I found it uncomfortable viewing to see just how much of a focus was being placed on motion controls. There was so much focus on "the past" with that little bit about past systems (fucking LOL at Gamecube handle, btw). I just didn't feel that Nintendo had learned from their mistakes and were finally moving forward. Even the design of the Switch itself isn't too dissimilar to that of the WiiU. The Joy-Cons (I hate saying that) are evolved Wiimotes. It sorta begs the question about whether Nintendo have truly left that Wii brand behind. Needless to say, I won't be queuing up for one. -
I agree about the international games breaking the flow of league fixtures, but I also can't think of a solution around this unless they ended the league earlier and did all of the international games at the end of the season. Logistically, I don't think it would be possible. The only real way that these smaller countries will improve is by changing their infrastructure and pumping more money into the grass roots level of the game. I do see your point about playing in games that are closer to their ability level, but again I don't know if that's possible due to how the groups/qualifying rounds are drawn up. It does need looking at and I'm not convinced that FIFA have come up with the best solution with their changes to the format. But, I agree with the initial idea in that the cup should be opened up to more countries. We'll see what happens.

It's every footballing country's dream to win the World Cup. There isn't a bigger competition and imagine what it must mean to the people of these countries to be given the opportunity to participate within it. Football is a global game. However, I'm not sold on the new format plans. I guess I'm in the "right idea, unsure about the execution" camp. I have to disagree with @dazzybee's bit about people falling out of love with the game. The English have fallen out of love because the whole England set-up is a sham with no real willingness to move with the times and with a reluctance for new ideas. England are predictable and have become stagnant. We'll see how the next tournament goes but I don't think this new tournament format will increase or decrease England's chances of winning because England are the masters of their own downfall. Harsh maybe, but true.

Happy birthday, N-E! It has and probably will always be the first site I go to when I'm browsing the webs. Obviously, this website has been life changing for myself and many of us. I've met so many fantastic people thanks to this place and it's insane that it's still going and will hopefully keep growing. I hope that this place keeps going and that we continue to add to our community. Who knows where things will be in another 19 years.

Virtual Reality is science fiction that is becoming a reality. It's one of the many directions that the industry is taking and whether it flies off the shelves now, or two years time, or after that, it's here to stay. I'm finding myself becoming really fascinated with the idea. I will be hopping on board the PSVR train at some point this year.

I came home from work tired, saw this thread and automatically thought this had been confirmed. I let out a little inner "yessssss!" and now I feel a little empty inside.

I've not exercised in weeks. This is probably the longest I've gone without doing any form of exercise in years. Life is just far too busy at the moment with the house refurbishment and move. 2017 does mark the start of Operation: Build-Jim-a-Gym! Looking forward to the garage conversion. There will be a fair few photos throughout the year.

Retrospective: Your best Wii U moment(s)
Fierce_LiNk replied to Debug Mode's topic in Nintendo Gaming
My best memory of the WiiU is when @Ashley came down to Bournemouth to visit me and @Eenuh. We played some Nintendo Land and it was just so much fun. The Animal Crossing game was definitely a hit! Aside from that, I had a blast playing through Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Batman: Arkham City. Both were top games and it was fantastic to see games of that high calibre coming to the system. There were promising signs at the start of the WiiU's life. -

Fuck, that would be so awesome. It won't happen, but it's a gamer's dream. From Software are the masters of combat. -
I've found myself craving to see this again. It's quite humorous to hear people out there who are confused where this fits in the Star Wars timeline. It's so fucking simple! @Eenuh tried (in vain) to explain this to her Dad and he wasn't getting it.

What characters do you use in SSBB?
Fierce_LiNk replied to jamescolan's topic in General Gaming Discussion
I mainly use Ganondorf. He's been my brah since Meleeeeee. After that, Bowser, Captain Falcon, Pikachu and Samus. -
This War of Mine looks excellent and has been on my radar for months. Tempted to play that right away when it arrives.

One thing I loathe about this internet age is the rise in online crime, fraud, hacking, etc. Sorry to hear about your troubles, @Hero\-of\-Time!

Yeah, it's pretty shameful. I do wonder if it should only be possible to sack managers during the transfer windows. To not even be given a transfer window to bring in some better players is awful.
