F-Zero 99 (Available Today! - 14th September 2023)
darksnowman replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Ended up with ~29,000/20,000 for the event. Never figured out how you were bailing early because from the point you vote for a track until the race starts I couldn't exit back to the menu. Fairly certain I tried every button. -
Nice one. Yeah, the Fire Emblem on NSO is pretty good. Losing people and letting it slide is pretty heartless. Think I got to a desert skirmish before moving on to a different game. Need to return to it. @Jonnas and @Ike explained a few things to me in this thread if you want to browse back to Feb/ March and have a look.

Claims to be completeable for free so paying your way might just be for the impatient. Says in-game there will be an event on the 25th. It'll be interesting to see what sort of support this is going to get.

If Switch 1 is the Switch, Switch 2 is the Lite and Switch 3 is the OLED, then I agree that Switch 2 people are the most in need of this.

N-E Mario Kart 8 DX Get Together (Theme Night this week)

It's been due. Bob-ombs are always right in front of me or the faintest whiff of the dissipating blast spins me out. -
Any major aspect of gaming that just... passed you by?
darksnowman replied to Jonnas's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Without having played Assassins Creed, so I don't know how bad these towers are, I think I'd have welcomed them in Lego City Undercover and Immortals: Fenyx Rising. In those games, you have to look around in first person for things to do. I reckon it would have been handy to get everything plonked on the map, then filter for the kind of activity you fancy. In BotW, I didn't get all the towers because they didn't serve any real purpose. Re: battlepasses. I'm happy enough getting the unpaid unlocks from occasional play or when there's something free going on like Winterfest. I'd a go at a full pass when Fortnite gave them away when it was pirates and cannons. I can see the attraction if you want to put in the time. Going in with a view to completing a challenge makes you look at the game differently—the battle royale is just something that's happening while you go about your business, storm cloud permitting. I would have been tempted to stump up for quicker unlocks in Splatoon 3. Aspects that have passed me by... gamerscore, PlayStation Home, avatars, kinect, move, basically I'm happily oblivious to all those gritty, cool, mature aspects that haven't been on a Nintendo machine or PC decades ago. Raising a chao. I've only got (some) achievements in the likes of Mega Man 9 on Wii and the odd other game that's had them. Yet to play Dark Souls but I don't know if I've missed out on any of its aspects. I've created characters. Assigned skill points. Been beaten by bosses. Went back to collect my stuff in Shovel Knight. Still don't think I've ever purchased DLC for anything, let alone the dreaded season pass of please-play-this-game-forever content... I vow to get all the Theatrhythm songs before the eShop closes this time. The Pokémon Unite genre has passed me by. Immersive sims... walking sims... to the extent I couldn't name one or imagine what they'd be like to play. GameCube didn't detract from my enjoyment of Splinter Cell—loved them! Top games. -

I actually activated star in time to survive a bob-omb explosion. -

N-E Book Club (or just a chat about books)

Always glad of a rec myself so I'm adding those to the list. 🏖️📚 If you're still on the lookout for something in a similar vain, take a look at Life After Life by Atkinson. Read it years and years ago through a Kindle promotion and it pulled me in. There's also 7 1/2 Lives of Evelyn Hardcastle which I'm yet to get around to so can't vouch for one way or the other. Same goes for All You Need is Kill. On the King front a couple of shorts spring to mind: That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is In French (collected in EE) and Afterlife (collected in BoBD) if you have access to them. -
A gem. Finding different routes, seeing the sights (perhaps imagining your own story about what's going on in the stages as you uncover more areas) and ultimately deciding what route you thought was fastest made for something that held its own pretty handily against the other N64 racing games. I speak from memory so its reassuring to see @Cube had a fun time with BAR nowadays.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (26th September 2024)
darksnowman replied to Julius's topic in Nintendo Gaming
The map similarities are interesting. Just checked the Thousand Year Door ESRB page out of interest, and it doesn't mention who is playable. So stating "as Link, players use a sword and arrows to defeat enemies" could indicate something beyond just losing an intro battle. Time will tell. -
It's good it isn't a random occurrence, but still, pretty much no chance of seeing it without this knowledge! Sounds like the Spooky Wall thing is the only one of those you'd have a reasonable chance of spotting. AC is full of little flourishes.

Was hovering over Pokémon Snap on NSO yesterday evening. Would have hopped on it for a refresher had I known it was next in line for this thread. Well you see, most people just don't understand it's basically a Star Fox game.

There was a result at the Centenary Stadium too! Check out o.g.'s contribution at about 30 seconds into the highlights. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/cyx5pepd6dgo

F-Zero 99 (Available Today! - 14th September 2023)

Wrapped up the festival in a week. Gold Capt Falcon was the final gold icon for me and was a rival that only came up in the last GP I needed, so that was a nice way to end it. Played it normally during the week. Doing five races a day (to qualify for the lucky slots) and hung about for a festival GP if one was close to starting. Then this weekend I specifically hit a few more festival GPs since there is basically one on the hour every hour (or two if you crash out quickly... ). Once I noticed a GP was giving ~1,500 gems sparks, reaching 20,000 was a done deal—definitely the way to go. Just glad the numbers are so lenient since you are at the mercy of track rotation in the other modes. Cool event. Can't remember how it compares to the winter one but I remember it was a good time too. Next year it'll be spring and autumn, then...? I was going to give up on a non-festival race but it said it'd count as a defeat against my rivals so I chickened out. Were you taking the losses or pulling the plug on your internet connection? -
I remember one of these mentioned something eerie happening on your in-game TV in the wee small hours on Animal Crossing. Whatever it was, I never saw it.

Relive the ultimate underdog story of a bully and a cheat. IGN have this to say: I was shown that scene after Cobra Kai came along. Fun. Credit where it's due. Johnny Lawrence > Daniel-san. Handy to know. I've looked at those on the eShop from time to time when Cobra Kai's been on but never took a chance on one. No doubt be looking at them again soon enough when the programme starts again. -

Sadness and Nibris were two things that had completely slipped from my memory. Back when Nintendo "needed" mature this and mature that. Happy Bag Salesman until proven otherwise! Slightly more interestingly, the NintendoAU vid is age restricted. The disclaimer and classification gives an idea of the content that can be expected: -
Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake - 14th November

Got it. I just let the video run because that wall of images and text was a bit much to take in. Yeah the part where they regurgitate the info from 4gamer.net mentions it. -

Is that screenshot from a different source to the video? The onscreen caption at 20:06 is saying you can use the chimera wing (same function as zoom like you say) to travel to previous areas and that you can use it indoors. Just for anyone that wants to see proof for themselves. It's been possible to zoom directly from indoors in more recent titles so they are probably just bringing it in line with that. As well as the other tweaks and ways it is being streamlined. -

Blast from the past reading that again. Out of curiosity, I looked Nibris up on Wikipedia and it says that after ceasing game development "remaining Nibris staff and projects were also reported to have been handed over to Bloober Team, another game developer."
