Carrying them is banned(ish), as of a few months ago. But this swords thing is stupid... I haven't heard of many crimes committed with a sword, have you? I have a replica katana thing that I bought on ebay, but it's probably to blunt and bad quality to be classed as a real sword.

But the thing is that life isn't an unknown quantity in science... people began to dispell vitalism once Friedrich Woehler first sythesised urea from inorganic components in 1828. For instance, the seemingly autonomous behaviour of an amoeba can be explained by relatively simple rules, such as drifting down concentration gradients towards food sources and the like. This isn't to say that I don't believe in consciousness- I think it is an emergent consequence of complex biological systems.

Yeah, I've taken C1... I got 92. When I said A-level maths was interesting, I didn't mean C1... it starts to get interesting in C3 and 4... unfortunately, you have to do double maths if you want the really interesting stuff, which most people refuse to do outright. Yeah, after having a look I was about to say that it looks like your maths teacher can't be bothered to set real homework.

'tis a pity for all of you... maths actually becomes an interesting subject at A-level. I found all this rubbish boring as well. In my opinion, they should get rid of ladders leaning against walls and put calculus on the GCSE syllabus. Anyway, although I'm doing double maths A-level, I'm not actually doing maths at uni, so I don't swear my undying allegiance to it... though it does run the universe.

You should always rearrange quadratics so that they are equal to 0, then try and factorise. If you can't factorise them, use the formula (or complete the square, which is effectively the same thing).

This program was brilliant... they show old episodes on FTN, and Challenge I believe. I love it when they get locked in the room.

1. I q = 2p - 5 II q = (p^2) + 10p + 7 2p - 5 = (p^2) + 10p + 7 (equate I and II) Rearrange and solve this quadratic for p, substitute the answer you get into either I or II for q. 2. I y = 4x + 4 II (x^2) + (y^2) = 36 (x^2) + (4x+4)^2 = 36 (substitute I into II) Multiply out and rearrange this, solve the resulting quadratic for x, substitute this value into I or II to find y.

I think you'll find that the more rounded or branched they are, the lower the boiling point, as straight chain molecules can stack closer together and thus form stronger intermolecular forces, so more energy is required to break these forces.
