Yes!!!! I finally beat it. After getting to Tabu (Tabuu?) a few times and dying with alarming consistency, I decided to practise on the Tabu in the Subspace Emissary. On Intense, he is actually loads harder than in Boss Battles. So I now have all Challenge windows unlocked except for 'Collect All Stickers' with 5 unused Golden Hammers. I've just got 11 trophies to get, and then I think I'll call it a day. </Dear Diary>

Completing Boss Battles with all characters on Easy is . . . well, easy. It's just time consuming. It's also good practise for completing it on the harder difficulties. I breezed through Normal, Hard and Hardest after this. Intense is ony possible after memorising boss patterns and after mastering dodging. Youtube has the most amazing runs of Boss Battles. Here's a No-Damage Intense run:

Cheers! Kind of obvious in hindsight

Has anyone here completed Boss Battles on Intense difficulty? I could use some general tips (I already know about the 'Don't get hit' tip). The best I've managed is 8 defeated with Marth. The bosses I struggle with are Duon and Galleom. 509 trophies!

Whoa whoa whoa! There are 242 stars? I've only got 241: Mario: 120 Luigi: 120 + 1 Mushroom Kingdom Festival thingy star How do you get a 242nd star?

Thanks! Yeah, the gaps between spawns is annoying. It's not a problem if you can kill the Yoshis as soon as they spawn - they'll continue to spawn quickly. But if you leave one running around for a bit, they'll spawn slower. Maybe it's a technical issue with the game's program code. I've now got 444 trophies. Just 100 to go!

Tell me about it! We must have spent about 2 hours on this one (Event 5 - Hard), with our best run being 45 Yoshi kills out of 50. This is compared to the 2 minutes it takes to complete each of the others. When we finally did it, it was a near-perfect run with the last kill taking place back on the ship with less than a second left. It's stupidly hard. For the record, we mainly used Meta Knight's Up + A attack and Pit's Down + A Smash attack. If we didn't get 14-15 kills after the ship fell, then we'd start again.

Americans burn more calories than Brits at Wii Sports
Patch replied to mr_bogus's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Haha! I think you might be on to something... -
I believe there are 544. You're not going to like this, but there are no rewards for completing ALL events on Hard, but there are rewards for completing certain individual events, some of which have to be cleared on Hard, some don't. You can't do Event Matches online. There are some Co-op events you could struggle through with a second 'player' just sat there doing nothing. Others will be next-to-impossible, such as Event 5 - the Yoshi Rainbow Ride one.

I finished Boss Battles on Very Hard recently, (using Donkey Kong would you believe). I'll be going for the Intense version at some point. Anyone know if Marth / Roy's Down + B move works for Tabuu's Wing Attack? Anyone have all the trophies yet? I have 439 at the moment.

Americans burn more calories than Brits at Wii Sports
Patch replied to mr_bogus's topic in Nintendo Gaming
LOL @ D_prOdigy I've seen people playing Wii Sports simply by flicking their wrists, obviously uncomfortable with the idea of moving their whole body in front of others. I think Brits are a bit more self-conscious than Americans. -
My earliest cinema memory was seeing the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi back to back. I was probably 6-7 at the time. I don't even know if I'd seen A New Hope previously.

Donkey Kong's Down + B move is pretty good, as is Pikachu's Down + B. Any character with a good Up smash attack that can reach through the left or right platforms will be good. Wolf for example. Try and use as many items as possible. Good ones are: Fan - Throw this in the air above the left or right platforms, and it will bounce between spawning enemies with 1-hit kills. Beam Sword - Left/right Smash attacks with this have enormous reach and again are one hit kills. Almost any item can be thrown at an enemy for a one hit kill. The alloys will not pick up items with the exception of the invincibility star which they can accidentally run into. After each 25 kills, a character enemy will appear. Try and go after them straight away, as they WILL use items. The last enemy will be whichever character you chose. Perserverance is the key. If you've done 99 kills, then it's only a matter of time until you get 100.

Theres....Theres A Bug....Inside My Monitor...
Patch replied to ReZourceman's topic in General Chit Chat
I saw a tiny little insect crawling underneath my DS screen once. The top one. If it had been the bottom one, it may have improved my touch skills. It was really more of a WTF moment though. -
Which forumites would you take in to a zombie apocalypse?
Patch replied to Dan_Dare's topic in General Chit Chat
Patch's Law No. 3: Every zombie-related thread eventually turns into a discussion about emoticons. People I'd take with me are: Aimless - His way with words would convince non-infected others to join us in our struggle. darksnowman - Er, would keep reminding everyone of my age, thereby ensuring I stay as leader. Jamba - He's cool. That is all. -
Does this record sound broken to anyone? Amen to that. It's completely subjective with no definitive answer. My definition, for what it's worth, is someone who plays games as a hobby as opposed to someone who plays games every now and then.

*Looks around* We did? Basically, you're saying that Nintendo has not yet abandoned an established franchise (say, two games or more). You might be right, I don't know. However, I retain the right to be surprised and happy, which beats being sad and expectant any day.

Sony CEO says Wii is "more of an expensive niche game device"
Patch replied to Jamba's topic in Nintendo Gaming
He's clearly misused the word 'niche', but that's all. For all its bells and whistles, I'd bet the Playstation's demographic is narrower than the Wii's. Comparing the PS3 and Wii, I would choose to say the PS3 is ridiculously cheap as opposed to the Wii being expensive. I'm sure Nintendo did their fair share of sniping in the Gamecube days. It's fun to see Sony do the same. -
Great thread. Aimless' posts are always good to read. For what little it's worth: I think as a general rule, you have to do what makes you feel happy. I forget who said it*, but in reality there are no selfless deeds. Those who are nice to others do so to make themselves feel good about themselves. But there is a line; a point at which you would refuse to help someone if they asked too much of you. This is the point where either your feeling of indignance at them or the inconvenience to you outweighs the satisfaction of helping them. The point at which you'd be unhappy. We all draw this line somewhere. *I'm sure someone came up with this before Monica and Phoebe.

Cool, thanks. I would have read it on its own if not for darksnowman's enthusiasm. That was . . . thorough! So from what I gather: The Dark Tower I: The Gunslinger - PAPERBACK The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three - PAPERBACK The Dark Tower III: The Waste Lands - PAPERBACK The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass - PAPERBACK? The Dark Tower V: Wolves of the Calla - HARDBACK The Dark Tower VI: Song of Susannah - HARDBACK The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower - HARDBACK I just wondered how much of a collector you are as I have a mint unread Wizard and Glass in hardback. This is the cover I have: Here is a list of all the covers: Wizard and Glass Covers PM me with your address if you'd like it.

Thanks for the comprehensive info, very useful. I'm coming to the end of the 'Tales of the Riftwar' novels by Raymond Feist, so I'll be starting something new soon. I saw Wizard and Glass and figured it's about time I read a Stephen King book. It's maybe not his best work, but it's the only one I've got at the moment. I think I'll invest in the first three books based on your advice. I assume you have all the books in the series? Do you have all hardback or paperback or a mixture?
-
I don't know which is the lesser of the two evils a) Starting a duplicate thread b) Resurrecting an old thread so I apologise in advance for this. I noticed the other day that I had a Stephen King book called 'Wizard and Glass' on my bookshelf. It's from a time long past when I was subscribed to a book club - you know, the sort where you have to buy a book every month or they send you rains of fire and destruction instead. I had no idea it was part of the Dark Tower series until just now. The cover says it can be read as part of the series or as an independant novel. Here comes the question. Ignoring the quality of the series as a whole for a minute, should I read it as a standalone novel or would I enjoy it more if I read the others first? I haven't read any of them yet. Mr. darksnowman will be along in a moment...

Any other chess players out there? I used to play quite a bit. It's one of those things I would do more if I wasn't helplessly addicted to doing other stuff.

Yes, I think a FAQ is justified for the jogging aspect. There's the 'unlockable' routes and the Nintendo icons to discover. I have seen a couple of Marios and a Goomba. The best one was a tree with a star on top, ripped straight out of Mario 64!
