eShop download codes now at GAME, cheaper than RRP
Sheikah replied to Mr-Paul's topic in Nintendo Gaming
Cheers for that, currently downloading it now. I don't usually sell my games so it's good to make a saving. Also if it's anything like the PSP, it works out better to get a download version (on the Vita you can redownload digital PSP games you've bought before for free, but if you have UMDs you're stuffed). -
During the mock emergency drill on the cruise ship I recently went on they said to allow women and children off first. I thought such a thing had been resigned to the past, but apparently not. Apparently men's lives are worth less. :p

Nuts and Bolts was excellent in its own way... excellent at being shockingly monotonous, having clunky controls and altogether delivering something so far removed from previous BK titles that Banjo and Kazooie really shouldn't have appeared in it. A real let down. The only fun thing Rare made this gen for me this gen was Viva Pinata. I wouldn't hold out on anything good ever coming from them again if I'm being honest.

There's nothing listed for your motherboard on that pic, it says it should have been filled in by the OEM. A good pic of the motherboard would help to identify what kind of card it can take.

I'll download this demo when I get back home on Sunday. I'm getting a Demon's Souls vibe though, is it anything like it?

ffuuu.....

I'm still waiting for mine, apparently there was some issue with increasing my inbox. :p

Hey guysss. Nothing happened to me last night. I know literally nothing about Star Trek either.

Aye I'll join

To get the key you news to defeat the Capra demon in the lower Undead Burg.
-
Once you go through Undead Burg you eventually reach Knight Solaire and the bridge with the red dragon. There's a door/gate you open there and descend into the depths.

Easiest way for a non pyromancer to get the glove is to rescue Laurentius who is trapped in a barrel in The Depths (don't attack the barrel, roll into it). Then when you get back to Fire link Shrine he'll give it to you. If he ever asks you any questions always say no, or else he'll leave the shrine. The giant blacksmith in Anor Londo by default can make lightning weapons. You just need a +10 weapon.

Pretty sure this will be a prime candidate as a free Plus game before long.

Man, I am so psyched for FFX HD, especially given it's being bundled with FFX-2 in HD on the PS3 (or sold separate for the Vita). FFX was such a great game back in the day and I've got really fond memories of it, loved the story. The version we got had Dark Aeons to fight which were damn hard unless you Yojimbo'd to victory. Trophy support will make me unleash on it. I know it's already been posted elsewhere but the graphical upgrade is immense. Love that it's coming to Vita too. This will sell like hotcakes in Japan for sure, FFX almost always tops their favourite ever game polls.

What was wrong with it?

I would argue that the terms 'current gen' and 'last gen' are pretty much used to properly refer to console generations. You are right though @Lens of Truth, it is context dependent. If somebody says 'the next generation of consoles...' then chances are they are talking about the anticipated roster of consoles that are due to be released within the same time frame. However in the case of devs claiming the Wii U is 'not next gen', as is being mentioned here, there's no doubt they are referring to technological features not being what they expect for a generation along from the current one, rather than implying the Wii U wasn't released as part of the next generation (which would defy time/logic).
-
Like I've said, the term 'next gen' when used in context describes a feature considered to be novel or advanced. It doesn't have to mean graphics either. It is a term used independently of a time frame, and people shouldn't mistakenly associate it with the literal definition of 'generation' as you are doing. When game devs are criticising the WiiU for not being 'next gen', however right or wrong that may be, of course they aren't implying it wasn't actually of the most recent console generation. To do so would be to deny the existence of time. They're clearly saying it to mean what I just explained above.
-
Well put. There's a general confusion here between the word 'generation' and the term 'next gen'. They are not intended to mean the same thing. When people or devs are referring to a console or feature as 'next gen' they are not referring to a time frame in which a particular series of consoles were released. They are implying that the particular feature/hardware/whatever in question is what you might expect for a generation along of the current consoles. It's basically mostly industry and part consumer speculation on what features are significantly advanced enough to make a big deal out of.

I often leave the game on to watch the intro for like the 20th time. Probably one of my favourite intros - the music is so catchy! Especially the part when they're all driving their mopeds. I finished this game a few days ago and it's easily one of my favourite ever games. It improves so much on P3P, which had way too many floors to the dungeon and suffered from repetition. Could easily play a few more sequels made in this format.

Yeah it's a novel drug that speeds up healing, pretty cool really. I'm part funded by the BBSRC and a drug company sponsor, and as part of my PhD I'm going to work for the company in New Zealand and America.
-
Heh, quite a coincidence that. I'm doing a PhD in London (UCL) based on diabetes and making chronic ulcers heal. I did a Masters too (MRes) down in Manchester. I pretty much didn't really know what to do and eventually opted to do a PhD. But I will say, there are so many times once you undertake your PhD that you'll question why you ever took it. It'll be really gruelling.

The PS3 and 360 have motion controls too now though. Really the only reason I think that Indie games are more prone to reaching the PS3 and 360 is the bigger audience of gamers who want those kinds of games.

If there's 2 popular consoles that can run the games at full potential then devs will make the games to run well on them. They're not going to handicap the games for all three systems because one of them can't run it, that just wouldn't make sense and is basically making a game worse in one aspect to satisfy a minority group of gamers. Equally making a scaled down version (that people will ultimately want less) represents more effort, hence why the Wii didn't see many of these games. Remember, having comparable specs is just an enabler to allow the system to run many of the popular multiformat titles- game devs making a game for PS3 have no requirement to make 'movie' type games just because the ability to do so exists. Hell - just look at many really fun low power titles like 3D Dot Game Heroes or games like Scott Pilgrim and Castle Crashers.
-
If you look at all of history it isn't really relevant. The reason for this is that in the past there was a far greater focus on exclusives and far fewer multiformat titles, so there was more reason to buy one console over another. Now many titles that people want to play are released on multiple consoles. This kinda makes sense - more people to get to play the game, and the game devs get more money. But if one console is unable to run a game, it's going to miss out. This isn't an evil campaign by game devs to make people come to expect great graphics and force people to buy high spec consoles to play them on. Rather I see having good graphics as one aspect and basically a good thing, as well as having good games and features. It's just progression really.
