I happened across a rather amusing new webcomic(CartridgeComics) today, linked from fanboys online, so I'm browsing through the archives and catching up. In one of their newsposts, this rather catching 'stolen sidekick' story is linked to. Of course, I was wondering 'how could someone steal someone's sidekick?' and clicked it thinking of the literal noun sidekick, and read the rather amazing story of a missing phone. I thought it was so interesting that I'd come here and share it with you guys. http://www.evanwashere.com/StolenSidekick/

I just updated a little while ago, I see IE 7 has a different font, reminds me a bit more of FF like this, I'll see how it goes and whether I get trouble still, thanks. EDIT: I see that the tabbed browsing before was actually done by a Windows Live Toolbar which my sister probably installed, and I reckon it might have just been that lingering around IE causing problems maybe. I uninstalled it anyway, because it annoys me in the new look IE. What also annoys me is the explorer bar right at the top

Apparently it IS super easy, and can be cracked within 10 minutes with off the shelf software due to a big flaw in it(which sort of allows the key to be reverse engineered quickly), and people can even intercept and monitor what you're sending over it. The guys on The Real Hustle (BBC3, exposes alot of common scams and cons) showed how they went round in a van until they found someone's house using it, then used their connection AND managed to even syphon off details about a holiday they were booking, which is a double score for criminals as it means they know when the house would be free to rob the place. I dunno if they could get credit card details too, but I shouldn't think that is easy to do given the extra protection on credit card sites. I would suggest if you can, to get logs on the router of who's been connecting, also set up DHCP if you can which will assign specific mac addresses specific IP addresses, you may in theory be able to block out unauthorised connections as people have said, but it also means it'll be easier to check from your logs if another person has been connecting, as they'd get an IP assigned automatically, and it won't match the ones you've said. As you said, there's plenty students about, and I would say they're more than likely to try leeching free internets. Badger BT about it and find out if and how you can get WPA protection, as I believe that doesn't have the flaw and is only brute force breakable.

Basically, I'm on my sister's laptop, which is like...a year or two old? (the one i used before is still out of commision til i have some more time) This one's got IE 6 on it, which I assume it came with. However, for some reason I can't fathom, IE tends to cause loads and loads of slowdown at times, especially when I'm browsing these forums with it in fact. I don't use tabs with IE, despite this version having the capabilities, but I tried tabs earlier instead of opening multiple windows and it was just as bad as if I opened lots of windows. Another thing it does sometimes is that it will open a new window, but in the new window the title will not load(like on the taskbar it just looks like an IE window, but no name, just an icon and upon clicking and bringing it up the window is basically all blank) and nothing in the window will load either. These types of windows can't be X'd out of either, though they do not neccessarily occur in conjunction with the aforementioned slowdown problem. I usually have to close IE through the task manager, usually through the processes part as the faulty windows do not show under the applications tab. Earlier there was some mega slowdown, and I managed to close all the IE windows normally/relatively normally(such as the not responding -> end now window appearing). After this the system was still running a bit slow, and I CAD'd and saw under processes IEXPLORE was still running. In all circumstances of problems described here, IE is consuming the most memory out of everything in the processes tab, and also the most CPU, usually over 90. Can anyone tell me how to fix/determine the cause of this problem? I am not looking for answers such as 'get a mac' or 'get ff/safari/opera/other browser here'. That is simply avoiding the problem rather than solving it, which I'd like to do if possible.

This poll question is worded in a non sensical way from my point of view, thus I won't answer it. I think the Wii may have won back lost gamers, then again, maybe it's just pulled in a load of new gamers, as I don't really know many 'lost' gamers, and I imagine any who were would be a bit weary of this strange new system and stick to the kind they know, maybe. As for the Wii itself, is the fact that it's tomorrow's featured article on wikipedia a sign of how successful it has been, given that it has barely been around for 6 months?

Alot of drum and bass(two good ones being (wait for it to kick in proper) and Fasten Your Seatbelts and by Pendulum) gets me feeling proper pumped up. Soca and Dancehall music tends to get me in a party mood too. I agree with that feeling. Good song. Alot of songs from when I was like 12-18 get me in a bit of a mixed feeling mood, kind of sad the days are gone but kind of happy for what they were. Of course, that's a personal thing and wouldn't apply to too many of you gets me feeling kind of, I dunno. It's a weird feeling, I guess it's a bit of spillage of the feeling of nostalgia I just mentioned. makes me feel sad, but not for myself kind of thing, sort of for everyone in the world?I recommend highly Empty Corridors by Luke Pickett, it's a song that just makes me feel...I dunno, it's just a kind of beautiful sounding song. It makes me feel like theres alot more out there? The myspace is here though it says it's down for maintainence now. (EDIT:You'll have to excuse the videos in some cases, I just got anything that had the song playng despite not having any relation to the song)

I once jumped out of a car going at 20-25mph, and I don't even think I was drunk. I like to suck the air out of empty fizzy drink bottles, as it gives me a crazy head rush due to mainly being CO2, it often causes me to fall over. I like shiny things. I once had a song written about me, which has been lost in obscurity as the band who wrote and sang it split up and the new band formed out of half its members don't seem to care for it anymore. It lives on in people's memories. I have a bit of a weak bladder I think because I pee alot. I'm probably diabetic but don't want to deal with the hassle of actually knowing, so I haven't been to see my doctor. Sometimes I get really really dizzy and it's completely uncontrollable, even if I shut my eyes, I don't want to see the doctor for the above reason. I'm quite squemish, only it's also something I can't control and know is completely irrational, I can often faint or feel woozy around needles/when having an injection, and copious amounts of blood. I can eat alot of crap but don't really get fat, and I am really unfit. Alot of people don't know how skinny I am either.

I was considering buying some Nintendo shares back around just before the American wii release, though it seemed far too complicated as I'd have to find a broker for the american or japanese markets, and set up accounts and all that, and I found it pretty hard to find a decent place to track the stock price. Which is what I come to ask, you got anywhere that shows a graph of its price over the last year?

Sounds like it says if you pay them(well, call them immediately), they won't send another letter and charge you £14 OR disconnect your gas, so if you've paid up then that should at least delay anything and keep you safe, cos they shouldn't have to write to you again nor disconnect you, as they have their money, but it'd be worth trying to keep calling to get through to an actual person who can confirm all that for you, in case someone doesn't talk to someone and they don't realise you've paid.

Was this any good? Being from near the south east as well, I would be quite interested to see it, though I don't have sky one so I wouldn't have gotten to anyway. I hope it's repeated on Sky Three at some point when I'm not busy...

Did it get chucked on at the end of all the channels? My freeview box is really unreliable, and sometimes when I turn it on no channel will display saying there's no signal, so I have to do a whole automatic scan again, and sometimes it skips out channels completely, or puts them right at the end of the list in the 800s. Do you have any other freeview boxes where you live that can get it?

Get a macwii. It's one option, but a better option would probably be to just look around shops for an old gamecube(or even ebay) should be able to get one for like £25 or so I reckon?

Have you ever given Linkin Park a chance Caris, I think you might like them, dunno why I think that though. I haven't actually heard much linkin park myself anyway.

An UNREGISTERED gif making program ! Pretty freaky stuff though, kind of hypnotic... As for me today, not done much other than this, and given it's already on my clipboard cos I just posted it, I'm gonna put it here too. I drop them into paint then resize them with the stretch skew thingy, just make sure you put the same %age in each box and it'll resize fine without losing the ration.

I watched it all through, I really wanted to see him(or her?) finish the second level but I guess they just got fed up with it all! I doubt I'd have had that amount of patience with it though, 24 minutes just to do 1 and a half levels? No thanks!

Can anyone tell me whether ActRaiser is better than/worse than/about the same/too different to compare to Soul Blazer. For some reason the name made me think of Soul Blazer which I played a long time ago, and lo and behold it's made by the same people and apparently in a similar vein.

I like John Smiths too, yay for John Smith's! Also, like Dyson, I look a bit silly because I haven't shaved for a while and my facial hair isn't too thick, but I like how it looks. I was once really smart, and top of my class in primary school and beginning of secondary school, now I'm probably below the average of my peers. I'm still slightly hung up on a silly schoolboy crush, despite knowing how irrational it is to be. I grew my hair for nearly 3 years, trimming it only twice during that period, and only by an inch or two. I'm now growing it again, since I had it cut down short on the 30/12/06. I don't like dairy products much, though I can tolerate cheese on pizza, and milk in my tea as long as it isn't too much. I also love tea, it's probably my most consumed drink after water.

Cheers, I was after the top 4 horses with the smallest odds, as those were the ones I'd have bet on, though it looks pretty good that I didn't get round to betting now, as none of them won!

I've seen a few of its episodes, at first I thought it was tripped out hippie shit or something, seemed so weird, but then I grew to like it and what it was getting at, though I haven't seen more than 2 or 3 episodes and would probably skip over it when channel flicking. I saw the guy(sportacus? the lead guy, and also has alot to do with production or writing or something) on Matthew Wright one morning too as his sofa guest, basically talking about it all and how it aims to get children to stop being fat and all that and I thought the way he put it made it seem like a pretty good idea. I don't think it is, I think they make a specifically english version of it, but it originated in iceland?

I think a record should have been made of the rather cool names that you changed people's names to, just because.

My name is derived from the alcoholic spirit(was going to say beverage, but it hardly is!) and an incident relating to it, and also my general love of it. The interesting fact however, is that I also enjoy a nice game of Rummy, and it is probably my favourite card game.

Heh, that was most amusing! Is there anywhere that actually lists all the error codes and what they mean?

Give VC its own board, I think it's vast enough that it both needs and deserves one.

I was just having a shufty, and couldn't find a fairly recent thread about this site, so I decided to start it. What recommendations do people have of some good wiicade featured games? What are your impressions of Wiicade as a whole? Myself, I haven't done much browsing of Wiicade given I only just got my wii to connect and download, but I have spent like the last half hour playing Dice Wars, which is actually pretty interesting! Took me a while to figure out what was going on, and I still haven't 100% figured it all out(such as what influences your number at the bottom) but it sure is an addicitve little thing! *goes off to wiicade some more*
