  1. Ah right, thanks for the info. Just to check, those are 7 and 2 respectively right? As for everyone spouting how great they are and how stupid people are who got it wrong, I don't think it's as clean cut as that. I think this is a case of a confusing situation, for lack of a better term. It's like those wordy riddles that get alot of people(you've heard them, the ones like what do you put in a toaster, what do cows drink etc). Do people commenting as such honestly believe the people who have arrived at -203 or something other than 197 are completely incompetant when it comes to maths? I'm not looking to start an argument, so that question is rhetorical, just ask yourself if you do, and if you can't honestly 100% answer yes, then I think you should refrain from making such comments. If you do believe it, then I think you are foolish, but you are more justified in your reasoning for making your comments.
  2. I think you did. I also see strike through doesn't work on +s, I should have realised.
  3. Oh, that's kind of even lamer, he didn't even punch someone out. That's just the sort of thing most lads do when they're bored on the school field, isn't it? I think it's a guy thing. We did something similar when I was back at school.
  4. Oh wow ok, I just read past the first page, and this thread is so beyond whatever the original post was about, hold off on any lockage plz. I like this marshall guy thinking we're some sort of social retards being on a gaming forum, given that he types like some sort of retard.
  5. I went out on saturday night, and it's thrown my whole revision plan and concentration out of whack as I spent yesterday recovering from a hangover, now I need to get back into things. It even makes me wish I had more coursework related stuff than exams
  6. Firstly, that video has been removed by the user, making this thread half redundant and half annoying to anyone who wasn't here when the video wasn't removed. Second, by 'floored' how exactly did these floorings take place? Was anyone actually punched out? Third, if they were, or if they weren't, is it really something to take such great pride in?
  7. Ahh, a maths teacher! Just what we need. Is BODMAS or its variations actually on the syllabus, and how much depth are you actually required to teach it in? Given that it is just, as you said, a way of remembering orders of operations, I wouldn't imagine it would need much detail given it's not actually maths, sort of. For me as I said before it was only covered for like 20 or 30 minutes in a lesson in year 9, and it seemed to have been mentioned by the teacher more in passing than as something we were supposed to be being taught.
  8. I dunno what he's playing at being blue...
  9. JBA? Sometimes I wish acronyms were outlawed. Also, because I wanted to; http://www.bullnet.co.uk/henry/Default.htm
  10. Surely the dividing by x-1 is dividing by 0, which you aren't supposed to do?
  11. It makes me think of an owl.
  12. Revision and lack of friends in the area thwarts me
  13. Where? Everywhere! Where is it that you go, that you can't meet someone? As someone said, friends and friends of friends and stuff, maybe go out and make some new friends first too, to have a bigger social circle. Seriously, the only thing that I think is really holding you back is yourself, you can't honestly tell me you never see any women anywhere?
  14. I think you'll find you just used a double negative, you big old gay hater! You hate yourself! Freud! Gays! EXCLAMATION! Forgot to quote.
  15. You want to get lots of fibre inside of you, some bran, or a few apples/carrots/cucumbers, maybe take some laxatives(pop to a local chemists). Are you actually consitpated, or have you just not been eating much? I think cranberry juice is supposed to help something too. I loved the image of shit literally coming out screaming, twas brilliant!
  16. I was just thinking exactly the same! Silly idea though, goddamn queers gaying up our beautiful straight world. I must say, this thread doesn't seem to have achieved either of its stated goals Henry! Very dissappointing! Was only joking about the gays btw, I'm all for a more liberal world.
  17. You assume to much, I was posing that as a different question to highlight the thinking that leads to the -203, or rather the thinking that should lead to the 197. When did people here learn about BODMAS/BIDMAS/whatever? I feel like I've learnt a horrible lie, but always knew it was wrong anyway so it didn't affect anything.
  18. I support this, I keep forgetting who he is until I see the sig Or, change his name to Hoover, just because. Also, what IS the GLA? (I think I asked this before ages ago, but what's the name for words like hoover and coke what were brand names that become common names for an object?)
  19. But if someone asked you to solve the sum 2-5+200=?, what answer would you come up with then?
  20. It's basically what you've been taught there. I say I was taught it(BODMAS), it was covered for about 20 minutes by our teacher in a year 9 maths lesson, but it stuck in my mind since then, and was never brought up again in all my subsequent maths learning. Having said that, had I seen the line 2-5+200, I would work it out to be 197. So it's quite an mystery how I can see this from both sides and think that both are right and both are wrong. The problem with calculators and programs on computers apparently is that they have different order of operations, which is why the windows calculator will give both 140 and 197 depending on what mode it is in(wikipedia pointed this out to me). 7 x 20 maybe? (the 7 comes from doing the 2 - 5 + 10, and then the *20)
  21. So it is true then that multiplication and division are equal to each other in importance, and also addition and subtraction are equal to each other in importance as well? And therefore in any such situation involving them the priority is given left to right? Actually, and rather interestingly, it gives both 140 and 197. Try it in standard mode, then do the exact same inputting in in scientific mode
  22. The point I was making, was no there isn't really anything wrong with it. Owning a gun is not a problem or an issue, a person's intents and attitudes are. I once when I was a wee cub went somewhere and did target shooting with an air rifle, was actually really good fun from what I barely remember(I'd forgotten til now). A gun is simply an inanimate object until someone animates it, how could there be anything wrong with wanting a gun or being interested in them, or even owning one?
  23. Happy birthday dude, hope it's been a great day for you(or a good night if you're about to start the celebrations :P)
  24. They weren't denying it as such, they were just saying that they're equal, it's just called BODMAS(or PEMDAS) because one obviously must be written before the other, and BODMAS is an easier way to remember and think of it.
  25. People there were saying that Multiplication and Division were of equal importance to each other, then Addition and Subtraction were of equal importance to each other, and when it comes down to it you just do it left to right. I should have thought though, if order could affect it, it kind of flaws the logical basis of maths slightly?
