  1. Of course not but unless I am wrong the majority of US/UK people voted for their current governments (yup I know the US voting system is somehow flawed) and that makes it a democratic choice. That those decisions itself can be faulty aswell lays in the human nature - we are not flawless. For me the whole Iraq/Afghanistan war is not about liberation (might be a nice side effect) but about power in the middle east and oil. Companies earing big money which also have political influence is what this war is about in my opinion. So I would not join the army right now to fight a in my opinion pointless war - but I would join to help people get their food, build houses, repair bridges and act as a police in guerilla wars between rivaling families in a african village. The army has enough duties - the question is if you can live with the ones which are not regarded as right at the moment. So if you now join the army to fight a war in Iraq it is your own decision - that this decision might be morally wrong for other people is the other side of the medal. Most countries use a majority based voting system - the problem is that politicians are not really bound to their promises BUT I say that everyone just should follow their heart on how far they agree with their leaders. As long as they know the truth and not fall for cheap propaganda. People get more and more controlled by various organisations and since I am still young and idealistic I think this is something everyone should stand up against. So if someones joins the army and you think it is wrong - try to convince him not to by explaining your thoughts but without using stereotypes or any other prejudices you might have. I know this is very hard especially when you are 100% sure that you are right but this is the true way of democratic and liberal thinking.
  2. Just saw that thread - if I have time I can help with maths. I finished all maths courses on university I need but one. I am also a bit into electronics ... So analysis, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, probability, statistic, stochastic, differential equations... are okay with me. Just don't expect any miracles. If someone likes try and help me with: (2x + x^2*y − y^3)dx + (x*y^2 − x^3 + 2y)dy = 0 solve it with a integrating factor of the form mu(x*y).
  3. Yes of course but also a big share came from people already enlisted and I would say the second world war was not only won by a higher number of soldiers but most part because there has been a regular army prepared for such circumstances - providing strategic data, supplies and stuff. Also the RAF is not a part of the army which has a lot of drafters gotten into - but it was a dangerous and very vital part of winning. Without the RAF germans would invaded Great Britain with a overwhelming surplus of soldiers (=> operation "Sealion"). Hehe ... stupid movie ;-) Yeah if you serve in the foreign legion you become a french citizen after serving long (at least that is how I remember it) enough and not getting killed. But before I serve for the french army and lose the right to be a austrian citizen I rather join the armed forces of my own country...
  4. Well since this discussion goes still on I might want to bring another apsect into this. Without brave young men and women in the UK, France, USA and other allied forces we would probably still live in a dark age in Europe with a crazy Fuhrer doing whatever he pleases. Without a decent army most of you would probably salute to a german leader wearing a svastika now. Also please don't interpret this as someone trying to glorify the allied army - I am from Austria, my grandfather fought for the germans and was imprisoned by soviet forces. I still regard the allied army as the liberators of Europe even if a german victory might have been better for my personal agenda. Agreed Europe right now is not at the door step of a real global war but may I remind you all that terrorism is considered as a form of war aswell - and every country needs a defense against that threat. Also think what happens in 20 years ... more and more people live on this planet and primary resources like food and water will be the next targets for wars. It is vital to secure borders and prevent the civilian population - this is a paragraph in most constitutions in nearly every country. Not everyone wants to be a part of the federal armed forces or anything similar - granted this is their view of life. In Austria you can either serve in the army for 8 months including border patrol or work in a civil institution like the red cross. So if someone wants to join the army wether it is for money, prestige or the lack of a different job - PLEASE LEAVE THEM BE. Not everyone in the army is a idiot without a future and not everyone without an army career is a guilty of treason and a hippy. My point is that armed forces are sadly neccessary in our modern society - in battles, humanitarian missions or whatever. As long as a democratic government has approved of that mission you have to accept it. That is democracy not "They should do what I think"-ocracy.
  5. Just be aware that in a lot of countries joining a foreign military service counts as treason and you can lose your citizenship and stuff.
  6. To be honest before I would join the army - I would rather finish a electronics/computer science/engineering degree and work for a military partner. BAE, EADS are companies with a bright future and they pay good and the only part of you in a war zone is the rocket/jet/whatever you build. The moral part still stays but since you don't directly kill anyone it is less heavy.
  7. As long as you don't forget that there is a chance you have to fight in a real war, killing real people to defend the interests of your country join. If you are not sure better leave it be. Wether it is ground forces, navy or aerial duty depends on your qualification and interest.
  8. I am also pretty amazed that Rockstar and furthermore Take Two did not at least port parts of GTA4 to the Wii or anything similar. Don't ask me why - I was told it is 100% sure that it happens.
  9. The main problem is that Nintendo got into new customer areas much too far. Publishers rather make a game which appeals to everyone instead to a certain core audience. That said I really hope the game gets a publisher AND decent sales - because every game directed at an older audience failing now means a lot less games of that kind in the future. Right now the Wii is still growing and has sold a tremendous amount nobody would have thought but the game line up is still not what the console deserves. As usual the first party games are top notch and then there are a few outstanding third party games - the rest is mediocre and beyond. Now if I look around at new game anouncements it is always PS3 and 360 which get the good games and if Nintendo is lucky the Wii gets a port (Soulcalibur Next vs. Soulcalibur Legends). So I really hope that The Conduit turns out the be not only a great game but one that is actually bought by the people out there. Because that is a main problem on the Wii ... Spongebob Squarepants, Movie games, etc. often sell better than real games.
  10. I just raced a few more laps to check but I don't think it is me stopping to press A button. I guess it is my Wiimote since it does not happen with the other one so far. Anyone knows if I can return them to get a new one? It is my launch Wiimote ... Just 2 people before me on Peach CastleGarden (Nintendo Developer and some crazy japanese Chick). Mach Bike rocks :-)
  11. Anyone else noticed that sometimes your bike/car just seems to stop for a little time - as if you stopped pressing the speed button. I am not sure what this could be ... maybe my Wiimote is broken or something. It really happens on a regular base - I am driving and suddenly I nearly stop as if I "forgot" to press A.
  12. Wow great job ... you copied the whole list from IGN Wii 2008 Preview and added your score. Maybe I am wrong but it looks like as if you come up with those games - and I doubt it. Journalistic integrity for the win! A link would have been more than sufficient...
  13. I can't find any notes on the Free Radical homepage which says "Available for Wii". Only thing is TimeSplitters 4 (NextGen Platforms) - TBA. And from my knowledge NextGen Plattforms mostly means PS3/360 and NOT Wii. Any other proof that its coming to the Wii? IGN: NOTE: This project has been officially announced but not confirmed for any specific platform -- the game may or may not be released for this platform. Please check back for official info.
  14. Nope ... maybe because it is extremly difficult to achieve something similar to Full Scene AntiaAliasing on both Cube and Wii. There is some built in smoothing effect which helps a bit but its not the same as decent AA. Galaxy looks awsome but it stil has a lot of jaggies in each level. So we have to live it until the Wii successor arrives.
  15. Well it seems you have already proven that girl guilty and are aware that she is a regular criminal... ...because then I would fully agree with you. People with constant misbehavior should be taken care of with the same way they treated other people.
  16. Yeah same with Africa - huge natural resources (diamonds, gold, oil) but only a few have control over this. Like with most developing countries they have been dominated by other cultures for years and after that they failed to establish a proper society.
  17. Brazil is poor, this example shows that I would not trust their government/police and they have a high rate of criminals. That sounds like third world/underdeveloped country to me. I know there is a nice term for "third world country" but I don't remeber it in english. BUT this term fits for Brazil! Check WikiPedia or something similar - Brazil is among the third world countries.
  18. Thats Brazil ... another third world country with no moral, money or laws.
  19. No, Vista is needed so more people buy it or switch - has nothing to do with DX10. That one year garanty sounds a bit low ... I thought most big laptop companies give 24 months. I even would spend a little more to get 3 years - I paid 60€ to get 3 years of warranty and I guess that is well worth it.
  20. Ask yourself if you would mind and then decide. Isn't communism a bit about everything belongs to everyone.
  21. My life gets owned by maths every day.... But it was my choice solving equotations, creating efficient algorithms and calculating electronical networks. I hope it pays of some day and I get a decent job
  22. 8800GT is 3% less speed than a 8800GTX but nearly 50% cheaper. Get one or else
  23. Explaination is easy: 3 Doors - when you first choose a door you have a chance of 1/3 to get it right. When you have to change again your chance is 2/3 instead of 1/3 because one door with a goat has already been eliminated.
  24. Fun with science: You are candidate in a quiz show. The grand price is a sportscar. There are 3 doors and you have to select one where you believe the car is behind. So one door has a car behind it and the other 2 doors goats. You select a door then the quiz master opens one of the other doors. And that door has always a goat in it. Now you can select again ... do you stick with your choice or do you change? Does it matter at all ?
  25. I am sorry to hear that - but I doubt the police has a high chance of catching those bastards. You could try to look around EBAY or anything similar in the UK and see if your stuff might be in an auction. Also there might be a chance to find them through your Wii - after all it has a unique ID when online. Problem is that most companies don't cooperate on such matters very well.
