Wavedashing is the one thing I do know about competitive Smash. I would put myself in the "Too far" catagory. Then again, I love that infinite Air Dodge. Oh boy! I finally have an opportunity to talk about Project M! What a ridiculously hit-and-miss affair! This is easily the worst thing about Project M. Almost every stage in this mod is bland and boring. (Except, somewhat predictably, the Melee stages) I mean, in what universe is this an "improvement" to the Brawl version? That's the entire stage, that one block with a swinging platform over it. it's insulting to anyone who likes the variety of stages Smash Bros games have. Disgusting... And it's not just this stage. None of the redesigned stages benefit from it. Battlefield and Final Destination (That even got redesigned a tad, it uses the Melee layout which is nowhere near as epic as Brawl's. Seriously, did they not see the sunrise background?) is all well and good. Not every stage has to be chaotic, but COME ON! The characters are the best thing about Project M... Well, most of them... Squirtle is such an outlandish case, it's almost comical. I should point out that Squirtle is one of my mains in Vanilla Brawl (Lucas, Toon Link and Wolf are the others) He was incredibly fluid and a ridiculously quick fighter, which I loved to death. So naturally, he was one of the first fighters I tried out on Project M. The website claims that he has good mobility, but this just isn't true. He feels slow, clunky and is clearly more about being defensive and withdrawing through projectiles then stringing together relentless attacks. In other words, he sucks. He doesn't even have a Final Smash. At first, I thought it was reasonable, Pokemon Trainer's Final Smash wouldn't work when the Pokemon are serperate characters. But then Roy (Who is fantastic in Project M, seriously. The best Fire Emblem character in Smash history now) and Mewtwo came along and they DO have Final Smashes. Why? Oh right, because Melee... Roy's Final Smash does make me smile and really makes you appreciate the effort gone into it though. Squirtle is an extreme example, but other characters seem to suffer a tad in certain areas. Toon Link is basically Young Link now, which is pure Melee pandering because Toon Link is way better! Sure, he has a few cool moves, the hurricane spin and the jump attack are very nice. But why on earth did they get rid of the down thrust? It was brilliant and helped to distinguish him from Link. Speaking of Melee pandering. Mr. Game & Watch suffers a bit from this as well. You remember in Brawl, how his Up + B had a parachute at the end that you could easily cancel out of and continue attacking? Not there anymore. I can seriously think of no justifiable reason for this other than "That's how it was in Melee" Wolf's gun goes even slower now... DCubed and I always use to make fun of his gun in Brawl. Dubbing it the "Crappy Beam" Now we dub it the "Crappier Beam" He's still a good character and I'm sure to miss him when he is inevitably cut from the new Smash. I'm sure there are a few more minor odd changes, but those are the ones that stand out. If Squirtle got shafted, then Lucario got all the love. He is a COMPLETELY different character in Project M, so much so that I like him even more than Lucas! He is blatently Street Fighter's Ryu. But they didn't want to use Ryu because of the whole "Not using characters that weren't in Brawl and Melee" thing. Most of the characters have a lot of nice new moves and touches. Wario springs to mind, Lucas has a move that I swear Wii Fit Trainer nicked. Ivysaur is amazingly unique. Charizard doesn't completely suck! Most of the characters are actual improvements. The only reason I play Project M is because of the characters.... ...Oh, and for this. Some of the nods to characters seem so obvious after seeing it in Project M. The alternate costumes are also well made, even if they can cause the game to crash when multiple people use them... So yes, I recommend Project M. But it's Melee air dodge, it's sometimes damaging and baffling changes to characters and it's GOD-AWFUL stages stop it from topping Brawl. (Although it is more fun than Melee, and that's saying something. Whenever Melee is suggested, I always think "Can't I just play Project M instead?) Sorry for the ridiculously long post... Take this from a guy who mains Squirtle in Brawl. That Bubble move doesn't even come close to rectifying the horrendous downgrade he got. It's the ONLY decent thing about him. Everything else he does is better in Brawl. Funny, I think he's too slow.

Ah, one of those incredibly flukey moments that I love. No way you expected that to work. RedShell and I have been doing that to each other a tad the past couple of League nights.
-
Oh, that was not what I was thinking of at all, I was under the impression it was just moving to the side a bit after getting launched. While impressive, sure. I can't help but feel that was not meant to be a part of the game. I mean, it makes no sense how that is even possible. (Yeah, I know, looking for sense in Smash Bros is futile) But it gives the impression that techniques like that were never meant to happen. (I feel the whole combo argument is the reason why there are infinite air dodges in Brawl. A feature of which I love. Wouldn't being able to dodge a combo atempt with a well-timed air dodge, allow you to escape from the combo?)
-
Oh, that. I do that all the time. Seems like such an obvious thing. What does DI stand for then? (You don't have to answer that if it seems too tedious)
-
I guess so. It's hard to gauge how it actually plays just from watching. But some of the matches seemed about the same kind of matches you'd see on my console. I can only imagine that until the people there learn the more technical stuff, I could hold my own against some of them. (Which is why I like the "For Fun and "For Glory" thing. Right up my street there) (Also, what the hell is DI? I've sunk thousands of hours into the series but have no idea what most of the jargon is. It's my fault for not caring, not that I regret it) Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Yup. I think they just wanted someone who attacks with Books who looks a bit like Hatsune Miku. Japn love them some Hatsune Miku.

While this is all reasonable assumption. This is assuming that the demo available at E3 and Best Buy was the latest version available. I highly doubt this was the case. There were a few things in those playable versions that look way better in screenshots a few weeks before E3. And I said this before, and I will most likely say it again in the future. I sincerely hope they don't listen too intently to the pro's. "Competitive" Smash is the most yawn-inducing way of playing Smash in my opinion, and I wouldn't like it if that kind of style becomes too obtrusive to us so-called "Casuals". (Hate that term, just because I enjoy items and don't want to know how to effectively L-Cancel, I'm not skilled? I guarantee in a 4-player item Smash, I could beat half the people in that tournament.) I remember hearing about a Q&A where a Melee fan offered Sakurai a few pointers about balance, to which Sakurai replied with something akin to "Have you ever made a game?" Pretty much the perfect rebuttal to most people who think they know how to "fix" Brawl. (I don't think Brawl is that broken. But I'd rather not get into that right now.) Never thought of it like that. I can't imagine that there will be any physic changes between the two though. Especially if it does somehow come out this year. BTW, no offense to Namco, but I despise Tekken. Not really appropriate to this, I know, so I'll take your word for it that those games are reasonably balanced.

Completely understandable. She has nothing to do with any Zelda game.
-
I find perfection is always subjective though. What someone might find perfect, another will find fault with. In terms of content, I'm OK with DLC, but having to patch a game because there's a bug or something similar is not worth a sooner release date as it just gives the impression of laziness.
-
It's kinda to be expected with Video Games though? Especially big titles like this. (And sometimes small ones. I'm looking at you, European Shovel Knight)
-
I think that might be pushing it... Chances are, this is just a coincidence. But I would be pleasantly surprised if that was the intention. I mean, maybe they tried to make characters like that, but decided that Lana was the most believable name.
-
I'm guessing they just want to space out veteran characters until the 3DS release. The other less likely explanation would be that maybe they're not showing unlockable characters officially? (That ship almost definitely sailed with Toon Link and Luigi, though, and I highly doubt Greninja is available at the start. Much to my dismay...)
-
He's as good as confirmed though. Would they not show him in that trailer and then not have him make a return? That would just be silly.
-
Damn, I was just about to point that out! If she turns out to be Nayru, that would be a ridiculously clever move on Tecmo's part. It makes me wonder if Aonuma suggested Lana or whether it was Tecmo...
-
OK, I'm kinda warming to Lana now. Attack with the power of CUBES!
-
I wish I could be as positive as you about this, but I really don't see Smash WiiU coming out this year. I'm with DCubed on this. (Although, that said, I would happily be proven wrong.)
-
I find that FAR too easy. I just cruise on ahead with no resistance. I might as well be playing on Time Trials.
-
Oh yeah. Should have mentioned that I also have Colours 3D. I was just never any good at getting the 3D to look natural. The markers seem to provide a style colouring style similar to Colours, which is why I want to get this so bad. That and Colours 3D can't really do blending. Which is fine for hard shading, but not great for any other ways.

Oh my daze! This is hilarious! Now I'm going to be disappointed when this isn't an unlockable CD for Final Destination! The screen size isn't an issue for me, I'm more worried about breaking my circle pad... Still getting both, I can't not have Smash Bros as soon as it's out! I need to main Greninja as soon as humanely possible.
-
Damn! I was thinking of doing the same idea! Curse you and your early access to Pokemon games! Definitely a fair review, @RedShell, unfortunately it confirms the one thing I was worried about. No landscape lessons kinda dampens it a bit. But I'm really not getting this for the lessons, so I can always just go back to New Art Academy for those. I guess I can understand the issue with the lack of 3D, all I can think of is that 3D paintings aren't very realistic? Lame excuse, I know. But I never used Colours 3D's 3D feature, so I'm not bothered. (Before anyone asks, I'm getting this for the tools New Art Academy doesn't have. The markers, spray paint and undo. New Art Academy never really could pull off a cartoony look, but what it could do was immensely impressive) I drew that two years ago. I love the colouring pencils! They're in this one, I assume?
-
I don't find it uncomfortable one bit. And no way is that D-Pad worse than the XBox 360's one! Not even close.
-
Why would you use the circle pad for a 2D Platformer? What's wrong with you? Is your D-Pad broken or something?
-
Take it from someone who's been in group 1. Any non-leaguers will want to see this.
-
I don't know... It seems very Twilight Princess heavy to me. Still hoping for Ricky. Still desperately hoping for him. I mean, Agitha being playable has to only improve his chances, right?
-
I'm getting some practice runs in before the league now if anyone on my friends list wants to join in.
