Woo! First guy to clock a game on the SNES Mini. I'm so not childish! Crappy quality mobile picture go! For the first time ever, I managed to finish in under 3 hours. 2:49. I've always struggled to do this game fast, so I'm well chuffed! I think Final Fantasy 6 will be next on my list. Except I can't find it, so I suppose I'll just have to play FF 3.

Not played it yet, but do you have some kind of house in the game? My money is on the bed.

Charge him 150 quid! Do it!

The N-Europe top 10 Nintendo games of all time.
Glen-i replied to Nicktendo's topic in Nintendo Gaming
That's not really true. Pokemon has plenty of dark moments. Just read up on Ghost type Pokedex descriptions these days. Then there's the 3DS ghost girls, which never really got explained. Black 2/White 2 has a straight up murder attempt. X/Y's backstory literally involves a war that culminates in thousands of Pokemon having the life drained out of them by Yveltal. And that's still pretty weak sauce when you compare it to the crap that goes down in the Mystery Dungeon games. The third game has a freaking suicide cult and an on-screen death. (Bloodless, obviously, but still) -
This is such an Everybody Votes Question and I love it. Anyway, should point out that this is a EU only Splatfest. In front is the correct choice. Who's up for me organising another N-Europe Splatfest schedule? It went pretty well last time.

BTW, just to reiterate my thoughts from the New 3DS SNES VC... If you choose Pixel Perfect and don't immediately correct yourself out of sheer disgust, you are the literal devil.

My only issue is that @Kav is adamant that this is all Ninty's fault. There's blame on both sides. Other developers have coped just fine, EA shouldn't get a free pass on this.

*Cough*PokemonRed/Blue*cough* I totally understand where you're coming from, though. I can also see where the love comes from. I definitely think the praise is a little bit overblown, but in 1994, that kind of atmosphere was just not seen in games. It's gonna leave it's mark on a childhood. I guess I'm lucky in that regard, I got the impact of that opening segment in 1994, but only played through it once I developed a sense of what I enjoy in a game. I'd be willing to bet I'm an abnormality when it comes to Super Metroid.

Actual prominent TV advertising for starters. Pretty sure the Switch has more UK adverts than the WiiU had at this point. Also, Ninty consoles have sold horribly here for yonks, I wouldn't be surprised if we were low on the priority list when it came to distributing consoles.

My first experience of Super Metroid was, as pretty much all SNES games, courtesy of @Dcubed (Yeah, yeah, what's changed since then? Heard it before) Of course, I was 4. And that title screen was enough to make me nervous. Couple that with the amazingly tense opening segment on the Space Colony, and little 1994 me couldn't play very far after the first amazing encounter with Ridley. It definitely left an impression. And it would be a whole 13 years before I finally played through it on the Wii VC. Yes, I'm an amazingly rare example of an old-school Ninty gamer that hadn't played through Super Metroid in the 90's. (EDIT: Damnit @londragon, I thought I was special) Since my first foray into 2 and a bit minutes of Zebes, I had played 3 other Metroid games, Prime 2 and the two GBA games. My word, the atmosphere definitely stood the test of time. Super Metroid still managed to give the feeling of isolation that I don't think any other Metroid has quite replicated since. Probably down to a mixture of the soundtrack and the setting. I managed to beat it with relative ease, but I loved it. It's also chock full of cool little tricks that I'm still discovering today. (Just two weeks ago, I saw a third way to beat Draygon here on this site) The game isn't completely flawless though, the controls, while perfectly fine, felt a bit stiff after playing Fusion and Zero Mission. Especially Space Jumping. I still can't get the timing down for it. Super Metroid is one of those games I'll just boot up on a whim and finish in about 2 days, and I think I will continue to do so for a very long time. Seriously though, you'd think they'd colour Ridley purple on the bloody box art though.

At points, it reminds me of the drunken thread, but with less typos. So it lacks the charm and about 60% of the fun..

This is correct.

Luigi in that artwork never fails to make me laugh. He's trying so hard.

Worth it just for Daisy singing!

Just to clarify, the average deduction was calculated after the other GP's were put in. So it's definitely a 1.2 deduction if you keep it. You sure about that?
-
You're definitely right about the OS problems. But can it really be that hard to implement a "Friends room" feature? EA aren't exactly short on cash. It's a little bit lazy.
-
Forgive me if I'm missing something, but is it Ninty's fault this time? Plenty of third party games allow you to open a room solely for people on your friends list.

Last night clearly means tomorrow morning when you're knackered. Here are the results. GP1 GP2 GP3 Disconnection Housekeeping @S.C.G Your disconnection in the 2nd GP gave you a final score of 14. You can choose whether you keep it or not. Your average points will go down by 1.2 if you keep it. @martinist Your disconnection in the 2nd GP gave you a final score of 19. Your average points will go down by 1.0 if you keep it. It's up to you two to decide whether you want to ditch these points at the cost of Attendance Percentage or maintain attendance, but lose points. Let me know as soon as you can. Once I get those responses, I'll post the League Table and next week's theme.

I'm gonna have to bow out, fatigue has hit me like a ton of bricks and I'm finding it hard to concentrate. Have fun.
-
Shells Only was a mistake. Won't be doing that one in races again. @Dcubed will have to be penalised for not letting Martinist have his course. And @S.C.G, which GP did you get disconnected from? I'll post the results later tonight.

The 100 Hardest Video-Game Bosses, Ranked
Glen-i replied to Happenstance's topic in General Gaming Discussion
Well, if you saw the credits, you beat Lavos. Queen Zeal is an optional fight though, so that one would be a maybe. -
Oh, I agree. It's gonna be upsetting, but there's one thing to keep in mind. Never underestimate the power of DeviantArt.
