  1. First of all, it's actually only one mid-air jump for the majority of characters. The second jump you're thinking of is the jump you do to get off the ground. If you're sent flying, you're not on the ground anymore, so you can't jump off the ground in the first place. As for the accidently using your jump issue. That's probably "Stick Jump" messing you up. Stick Jump is what lets people jump by tapping the stick upwards. However, this is at odds with the way you attack in Smash Bros. It can be very hard to attack upwards without accidently jumping because of this. I recommend pressing ZR on the main menu and going to Options, then select Controls. Here, you can remap the buttons to something you might be more comfortable with. You can also enter your name, and set controls specifically for yourself so that if you choose your name on the character screen, the game will use the controls you set for yourself. Definitely use this. When you're on the button remapping screen, you'll notice another section called "Other Settings" It's here you can turn off Stick Jump. I highly recommend doing that. There's also an option to tweak the sensitivity of the stick. If you find it difficult to pull off Smash Attacks (Tapping the stick while pressing attack), consider setting it to high. If you're having trouble with Tilt attacks (Tilting the stick slower while pressing attack), set it to low. My advice is to treat Smash more like a platformer than an arcade fighter. You need to simply get out of the habit of using the stick to jump, because way more options open up to you when you turn off Stick Jump. (Also comes with the benefit of not accidently using your jump whenever you tilt upwards) Play some matches with low level CPU's with Stick Jump off, so you're effectively forcing yourself to use the buttons to jump. With practice, it'll hopefully start to become second nature.
  2. Do you find yourself jumping when you actually want to attack upwards? Do you find yourself struggling to get back on to the stage after getting sent flying? Or is it a case of not being able to consistently do actions that require tapping the control stick? In my experience, those are the three biggest hurdles that most of the kids I've introduced to Smash face.
  3. It's a more restrictive Jolly Roger's Bay. The 100 coins are incredibly stingy with it's coin amount. (Less than 110) and then there's the sub door which sucks Mario in way stronger than anything else in the game and spits you out in the castle grounds. So naturally, there's 5 coins placed right near it! It's awful.
  4. I routinely got my butt handed to me by 12 year olds back before Covid stopped that. Just be proud that she's learned well.
  5. You only need 50 specific Shines to reach Bowser. And I do mean specific. If you don't get those Shines, you'll never reach Bowser. None of them are Blue Coin related. Oh, and @Rummy. You're totally right. Dire Dire Docks sucks. My least favourite level.
  6. Cool, I'll send it to you later today.
  7. Kirby Fighters was a mini game on one of the 3DS titles and then that got it's own eShop title with Kirby Fighters Deluxe.
  8. 120 Galaxy Stars now.
  9. Is that why I saw a tweet making cracks at how PS5 will be the first console to not get a Skyrim port?
  10. 77 Galaxy stars now.
  11. I will never understand the love for Geno. He's the most boring character of the 5 party members. Mario has comedy value through the various ways he tells stories. Bowser and Peach started their RPG personalities here, even Mallow has a character arc. Geno is just... There.
  12. How many games these days actually have a complete reset on death though? I can't think of many.
  13. Not gonna lie though, I am interested. Permanent upgrades are the thing that made me decide, "I wanna try this" Thing is, don't have the spare income at the moment. And getting the money for Hyrule Warriors is higher priority right now. So probably next time it's on sale.
  14. Am I right in thinking the key difference between roguelike and rogue-lite is that roguelikes are turn-based while rogue-lites are not?
  15. Here's a run of the LttP/SM randomiser I mentioned previously.
  16. 38 stars in Galaxy now. The amount of times I've seen the name of a star and thought "Oh man, I love this song!" Only for me to realise it's the version from Galaxy 2 I'm remembering is staggering. Case in point, the Speed Run music. Galaxy 1 definitely has an amazing soundtrack, but holy crap, 2 blows it out of the water. A bit late, but there is actually a way to quickly get back up to the top.
  17. See, it's stiffer than Sunshine, but I think that Sunshine can feel a bit too twitchy at times. Movement is really sensitive there. Momentum is key with Mario 64. Get the hang of maintaining Mario's movement and it feels a lot more fluid.
  18. And that's Mario of the 64-bit era done. The removal of the Backwards Long Jump is unfortunate and means you won't be seeing any speedruns on this version. But it does look a lot clearer. (Also nice to play it with Rumble. The HD rumble is surprisingly good)
  19. I assume you mean when they're talking full sentences? Because I quite like the random noises they make during actual gameplay.
  20. It really goes to show that the Toads in the intro have the best voice acting in all of Sunshine. Mario Sunshine has OK voice acting... for 2002. (Except Bowser, who is hilariously horrendous) Anyway, there's a good reason why future Mario games backtracked on full voice acting.
  21. Yeah, it's better suited for standard definition, so it looks odd when upscaled. Especially when you compare it to the gameplay, which looks much crisper. That's SD FMV's for you.
  22. Umm. I can do Thursday afternoon? But Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are not possible for me.
  23. Time for the next gaming session... I've been dreading this one... So you like a bit of Chess then, do you? This week's Game: Chess This game will be played once. Bracketing @viceview51 VS @Glen-i @drahkon VS @S.C.G Rules: First Move - Random Yep, it's Chess. Not Draughts, Poker, Subbuteo, Snakes & Ladders or even Monopoly. It's Chess! I feel like this is important to point out. 51 Worldwide Games has a series of tutorials on learning how to play Chess. I highly recommend going through them if you're unfamiliar with how it's played. Of course, I'm very smart and am certainly not the kind of peasant who has never played Chess in his life. There we go, that should throw them off... I really wanted to use that clip of Holly suggesting games to play while Queeg repeatedly shouts "Chess" at him, but couldn't find it anywhere.
  24. So, like the first 4-player session, you'll get points for the place you came in each round (4 for 1st, 3 for 2nd, and so on). Person with the most points wins that game and get the 4 points for their table placing. Last Card @viceview51 - 15 points @drahkon - 14 points @S.C.G - 11 points @Glen-i - 10 points President @Glen-i - 9 points @drahkon - 8 points (6 2nds) @viceview51 - 8 points (2 2nds) @S.C.G - 5 points OK, yeah, let me explain. I went to break that tie by looking at the number of times the two of you ended a round of President as the actual President. (The person who got rid of their cards first) You both decided to be awkward and did that 4 times, so I moved to all the 2nd places you got. And that's how I broke the tie. Got any questions, feel free to ask. Here's the table after 12 games.
