Absolutely baffling that this wasn't an official thing by Nintendo.

Chopper Attack JP release: 28th November 1997 NA release: 16th June 1998 PAL release: 1st September 1888 Developer: Seta Publisher: Seta (JP), Midway (NA), GT (PAL) N64 Magazine Score: 81% Chopper Attack (or Wild Choppers) is a game that’s clearly inspired by the [Terrain] Strike series of games. It’s a helicopter shoot-’em-up across eight missions. Each mission will give you certain enemies to destroy, although some you have to wipe out everything. The controls make use of the N64 controller well – the C-buttons move while the analogue stick aims (although there’s no option to disable inverted aiming). There is, however, one important feature of a helicopter missing: controlling altitude. You’ll automatically move up based on terrain. Enemies don’t have the same limitations, so you have to awkwardly try to aim at them – a big problem because the crosshair isn’t pointing at where you’ll fire. Enemies range from other aircraft to tanks, with soldiers also trying to take potshots at you. One really frustrating enemy is a giant Rambo-like man that grabs of your helicopter, messing your controls and missiles up. On top of your shield, you also need to keep an eye on your fuel – take too long to finish a mission and you’ll fail. You also have an assortment of weapons to choose from. Your performance in one level will affect how much money you can spend on weapons on the next. Those range to ground or air missiles, to other non-homing bombs and cluster missiles. The missions rarely set themselves apart and the graphics are just ugly, coming across very poor for an N64 game. It’s all really muddy, blurry textures and levels are brown or grey. The story barely exists, even though the game treats the briefings in a very serious manner. You shoot one group of enemies and then a second group of enemies. The last mission is only available if you play on hard. Like Aero Fighters Assault, aliens are suddenly involved, so your helicopter is sent to the moon on its own to save humanity. The moon doesn’t play or look any differently, and the alien ships are just random geometry. Chopper Attack is a game where you can have a bit of fun with the gameplay, but only in short blasts as he game has no variety. Remake or remaster? Just a standard emulated re-release is fine. Official ways to get the game. There is no official way to get Chopper Attack

Yup, it’s so stupid that it never happened officially. Clearly the hardware could do it, and having now tried it myself, the S3D effect works great, and the games run well. What a shame that they missed out on that opportunity, if only for VB Wario Land to be given a wider audience. It’s a great game that is well worth your time, but is otherwise trapped on a piece of hardware that is seemingly designed to give you a neck fracture (No, really. If you have never actually used a Virtual Boy, I cannot overstate how incredibly uncomfortable it is to actually use!). Ahh well. At least I can finally play my copy on the hardware it should’ve always been released on

Title says it all really. And let me know if there's a difference to you between physical and digital backwards compatibility.

Have to agree with many others here, in that I think it's an essential feature of the Switch's successor. I genuinely don't think anything outside of very early Switch sales records get broken otherwise, and I honestly think it would struggle to get to 100 million units sold without backwards compatibility. Oh, and I think it needs to be backwards compatible in every sense of the word when it comes to Switch titles – both physical and digital. Man, imagine the uproar if it were just the one For me personally? I think it's the deciding factor on whether or not I decide to pick one up on Day 1, outside of a Switch 2 launch exclusive killer app – and I'm talking Game of the Generation/Decade buzz akin to what we had for BOTW at the Switch's launch here, more so than "just" a Game of the Year contender.

Switch 2 needs to be backwards compatible. There are so many great games on it, plus there will be some Switch owners who are still on their original launch model console, which I'd imagine is still quite a high percentage, so it would be nice to upgrade to a Switch 2 before the original Switch fails, as I am starting to see signs that my launch model Switch is at least wearing out potentially, as the fans don't seem to switch on as much as they used to, coupled with games taking a bit of extra time to load. So for just having a potentially more reliable console that can play both exisiting software (with or without performance upgrades) and new software, would be appealing. Plus if the Joy-Cons are improved, that would nice, I haven't had to buy another pair of controllers since the console launched, but I haven't used them much either. While if the Switch 2 should launch either at the end of this year, or the start of the next year... I still wouldn't be too surpirsed if we didn't see it until 2026, as there are still people just now buying the original Switch, so it could have some ways to go yet... in which case, I just hope my launch model Switch will hold out for another... hundred or so sessions of Smash, Mario Kart and the occaisional NSO title, or random Switch game every now and then.

Pretty vital. With the enormous backlog I have on my Switch, there's no way I'm grabbing another system if I can't bring it over.

Mission critical. If they don't have full BC on Switch 2, I'm never buying another 3rd party release on their systems ever again. In this age of multiplatform releases being the norm, where all games basically play the same on every system, and with PC games now being made portable thanks to Steam Deck and other similar devices, there is no reason to choose to buy 3rd party games on Nintendo's platforms if they're not going to provide full ongoing BC.

Absolutely important. I've got a crapton of games on my Switch, and it'd be nice to have them available on one console.

Seta were surprisingly prolific on the N64/Aleck 64 weren’t they? One of the very few Japanese developers to pick the N64 over the competition (though they did put out quite a few early Shogi games on the Saturn as well). They were even responsible for bringing the N64 to the arcades, in the form of the Aleck 64 board (essentially an N64 in an arcade cabinet). While they weren’t responsible for putting out any of the N64’s more beloved titles, they still had quite the presence on the console and had an important impact; especially when it came to the N64’s (admittedly short-lived) presence in the arcades.

The direct took some of my momentum this week, I prefer the smaller random stuff! Better brace myself for Pokémon day eh?

Just finished INTERmission this evening. Pretty cool how it has ties to Dirge of Cerberus. Yuffie still annoys the hell out of me. Hated her in the original game and still hate her now. I'm all caught up and ready for Thursday.

My favourite of theirs, gets me every time. It just hits like a ton of bricks. Good thing I'm careful to not listen to it too much... *is my most played song on Spotify over the last 6 months* Whoops Glad to hear you had a great time! Will definitely need to. I've actually never been to a concert before, probably doesn't help that my friends don't really share my taste in music all that much so I'll find some NBT-listening strangers and drag them along instead I guess!
