Nintendork Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 This is kinda stupid, but a few years ago I decided to just start learning to brush my teeth with my left hand. Why? Just for the hell of it.. I sucked at first, but I kept at it. Now I'm just as good with my left as I am with my right hand.. which is now free to hold other things in the morning. Zelda has quite controversially been flipped horizontally to ensure that the average gamer can use Link's sword with the right hand. Apparently it's 'natural'. I can't write for love nor money with my left hand.. but I'm thinking about learning the Wiimote with my left hand. Are you all going for Wiimote in the right and Nunchuck in the left? From first experiences even most left handed writers are going for this set up against their natural instinct.
Shorty Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm used to having an analogue stick under the left thumb, I think I'll keep it that way
Nintendork Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 But surely your right hand which is used for more precise things such as writing and playing instruments (for example) would be better for the analogue stick? It's kinda weird that we decided to have controllers that way around don't you think?
Emasher Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 just use your right hand even holding the wii-mote in your left hand is aucward
Nintendork Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 Your hands are identical, and the Wiimote is nearly perfectly symetrical.. so that awkward feeling should be overcome in a matter of weeks. It was awkward holding a toothbrush at first too.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 This may seem like a daft thread, but it's something that has been worrying me, too. I'm left handed, and i've always used my left hand to move the analogue stick. As most of us have. Problem is, i don't know which arm i'll be using to hold the Wiimote with. I'm left handed, meaning i write with my left hand. Therefore, it's probably easier for me to use the mote in the left hand. However, i've been using the left hand for the stick. Using the DS to play hunters, i'm using the stylus in the left hand, and then using the buttons for movement. It's been like learning how to play games from scratch, as i've never used my right hand for movement. I will be doing a lot of gaming experimentation, to see how this works out.
Kurtle Squad Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 It's more accurate if you've trained yourself with the stick in the left hand for so long though, I think my right thumb wouldn't be able to do it as well at all. Also....why didn't they just make both Links of TP right handed??
Cube Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I write with my left hand. I play sport and stuff with my right hand. I'm going to need a bit of experimentation with each game. Wii sports will be right, but I have no idea what for other games.

Charlie Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I was talking to my friend about left-handed people a few days ago actually. To solve the problem, we came up with the solution that left-handed people should be forced to use their right hand so as not to cause confusion. (When I say 'we' I really mean my friend thought that, I think left-handed people should be burned as witches) It's called a 'right' hand for a reason, you know. ---- You can actually teach yourself to write perfectly with both hands if you practice enough. A couple of times a year we have a day when we only use our 'wrong' hand.
Nintendork Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 why didn't they just make both Links of TP right handed??Most people at hands on demos initially just put the Wiimote in the right hand and the nunchuck in the left. People noticed how it felt like you had to cross arms to make the sword swing right so they just flipped the display over. It was like they'd hold the nunchuck slightly lower and do all the sword action with the arm crossed above it. The GameCube remains traditional in the sense that Link uses his sword in game with the left hand. As each Link is a different person, I don't see what the big deal about keeping the tradition is. Some Zelda purists complained that suddenly he's become right handed.

Wii sports will be right, but I have no idea what for other games. Same here. I suppose we are what is called "Ambidextrous". I'll probably use the Wii Remote in my right hand, nunchuk in left. *does simulation of moving Nunchuk stick and pressing buttons on Wii Remote* Yep. That way.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I was talking to my friend about left-handed people a few days ago actually. To solve the problem, we came up with the solution that left-handed people should be forced to use their right hand so as not to cause confusion. (When I say 'we' I really mean my friend thought that, I think left-handed people should be burned as witches ) What what what?! Us left handed bunch are a special type of folk, you know. Jimi Hendrix was a lefty. Kurt Cobain was a lefty. Noel Gallagher is a lefty. And, to my knowledge, Miyamoto himself is a lefty. Bow down! Same here. I suppose we are what is called "Ambidextrous". Close. We're known as amazing.
Zell Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm a lefty, although I'm also a bit ambidextrous as most lefties are (I write, hold a bat/racket with my left hand but throw with my right hand), so I'll be using my left hand for using the wii-mote, but when it comes to nunchuk+wiimote I'll probably hold the nunchuk inmy left and the remote in my right because I'm used to it. But I'm not too fussed 'cause I can adapt pretty easily anyway... EDIT: Lefties are superior. Look at cricket, almost all international openers are left-handed and there are many more examples of great left-handed people in the world besides the ones Fierce has mentioned (as he has basically only mentioned guitarists) such as: Osama Bin Laden Jack The Ripper Abu Musaq al-Zaqawi
Charlie Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 And, to my knowledge, Miyamoto himself is a lefty. Ah, but Miyamoto obviously agreed to the game being swithed around, he obviously knows that he is part of an inferior species.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Ah, but Miyamoto obviously agreed to the game being swithed around, he obviously knows that he is part of an inferior species. Nah, he just knew you righties were not able to "adapt". Hence why he changed the sword into the right hand, to make it easier for you righties. He took pity on you guys.

Let's take this outside.... to the Meaningless Post Thread.
Fierce_LiNk Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Just keep telling yourself that and it might come true. Let's take this outside.... to the Meaningless Post Thread. I think it deserves a new thread! Rights against lefties.
Shino Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I played it today, and in the middle of it, I tough "what about the other hand" I changed it et voila! It's exactly the same I didn't even noticed.
The Bard Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm a leftie. And proud! *waves flag* Anyway, it'll be the same as with ordinary controllers, left hand analog, right hand wiimote. Think about it.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 The hand you write with should be more precise. So right it is. They cuold have allowed you to change what hand Link is holding the sword in but nooo...
Roostophe Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 Close. We're known as amazing. You damn right we're amazing.
ShadowV7 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I'll use left hand for nun-chuck and right hand for Wii-mote.Once i've calmed down playing TP i'll experiment and change hands to see what it's like.
Roostophe Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I'm a leftie. And proud! *waves flag* Anyway, it'll be the same as with ordinary controllers, left hand analog, right hand wiimote. Think about it. You a lefty guitarist then?
The Bard Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 You a lefty guitarist then? No, I write with my left hand, and do most other things with the right . I've tried playing a left handed guitar, twas awkward to say the least... I'm playing guitar right now actually *plays solo to Harvester of Sorrow* Man I rule
