I have put in GOW this week and i seem to lose interest in, like the majority of games very quickly.

I used to play games regularly, but as Ive got older (28) and commitments change I seem to have less and less time to get into them and master their controls etc.

Im hoping the Wii will change this, and I am hopefully that the key characteristics of the game will. I don't want to sound horrible but the games seem more simple in that you can pick them up and have a quick blast without committing hours to gameplay.

...anyone else feel the same?

I wouldn't call it a saviour, from 2D to 3D we've lived in a golden age (as I keep saying) and I really don't see it getting any better.

If there was a chart I would say we've plateaued with the (end of) PSone and part of the PS2's lifecycle. The DS and Wii have given it another 5 years, but it's not going to get any better.

I'll probably give up gaming after this generation for good. I'm suprised I'm even getting a Wii.. if it weren't for that controller I would be rattling off the last few DS games.

i dont think i'll ever give up gaming.

once and a while there are no good games to play but then all of a sudden there is a sudden rush of masterpieces (tp).

Even though, the real thrill is gone. You have to be honest, the first zelda you played was great - the first 3D zelda was an experience further. But after that things get quite predictable. I hope Twilight Princess can prove it's worth. That it can get your nekhairs standing right up. like reading a fantastic book and feeling the tears flow from your eyes. There are only a few games that can make you feel as if you landed in a dream and you don't want to wake up. But the real magic is gone.

I blame realism. Ocarina of Time was great, even though it wasn't visualy as attractive as the Wind Waker. But the thing is: you felt it was a game. The graphics told you that it was a game - and your imagination did the rest. Now games get so realistic, that you don't really need your imagination anymore. I blame realism, because your imagination should fill in the blanks of the lacking realism. It makes you involved. I truly blame Realism...

He has a point.

I know what you mean with Wii being a bit more pick and playable - but it needs its share of deep games too. I mean, on GameCube for exampe (its the last console, so Ill use it) there were games like F-Zero GX that you could turn on and blast through a Cup or two then turn it off again. My collection of Cube games also consists of Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia and Baten Kaitos amongst other lengthier offerings that are fun cos you get involved in them and you can keep dipping back into them and advancing the story. Wii needs this too, dont you want the new play style to breath new life into existing play styles?

Im not quite as old as you but I think if Nintendo just bumped up the power of the Cube to compete directly with PS3 and 360 that this would a pretty tedious and uninspiring generation of gaming  As it stands, if the Wii follows the DS path, it should be a corker.

Im not board of a normall controller yet, if you lost intrest in Gears of War fair play but thats just you.

You will get used to the Wii's controller and it will be second nature, it will also have lost its novelty in a month.

But the Wii will still be good.

Wii is something of a saviour for me and thats not because i'm a Nintendo fan.

I need freshness now. Alot of 360 games i'm playing are really great, i mean i love Gears Of War but it's not as though it offers anything other then amazing graphics...i want to be blown away again, like play something totally original and less...predictable. I'm hoping Wii provides this.

I'm not going off gaming itself, i'm just perhaps getting more critical with the games i'm playing. I was hyping myself up for GOW and in some-ways it did live up to hype in others it didn't. (Using GOW as a example of course).

I won't lose all hope in gaming if Wii doesn't live up to my expectations but theres a slight worry if it doesn't.....i mean what else is there? If Zelda doesn't do it for me...then i don't know what i'll do...

Has any US people on here obviously played Zelda and it really has lived up to expectations. I can't help but feel it may not for me.....

Well that's hardly surprising; there are too many games with stupid button layouts that don't make any sence these days. I mean, I don't want all games to be generic n too similar, but they could at least just use similar controls for similar games.

(I'm generally refering to 3rd person games here, it seems easier to adapt to most FPS and other genre differences.)

Saying you're going to give up gaming is like saying you're never going to watch a film or read a book ever again. Games can only get better, with the arrival of high speed broadband Internet and with development tools becoming more accesible then I don't see how gaming can fail to improve. At the moment developers need to have hits in order to sustain themselves as businesses, because of this they're very worried to do something new, so most stick to making games which are similar to recent hits. But now there are more opportunities for independant developers to make games for relativley cheap and distribute them digitally, bringing in fresh ideas and giving consumers more choice.

And I'm sure the likes of Nintendo will continue to make excellent games for decades to come. You have to remember as well that gaming isn't really thought of by the mainstream as a valid artform, but this is set to change in the next few years as there becomes more choice for gamers.

Im not looking at this from the perpective of the 'novelty' controllers. What im trying to say is that the games are more like 'party pieces' which require less commitment and complexity and seem focussed on good ol' fun and competition.

Gaming hasn't gotten me truly excited since around the age of 17 except for some Nintendo games. Nintendo games still have the power to give me that rush of excitement and fun that I thought may have been lost forever.

When I think about playing Twilight Princess next year on Wii, I just get a burst of excitement wanting to play it heaps :p
