Wii Preorders at $249 + free game

"Toys'R'Us in Australia are now taking pre-orders for the Wii at US$249, and that will include an unspecified free game! Could Nintendo be including Wii Sports as so many have speculated?

After contacting Toys'R'Us for comment, they have indeed confirmed that everyone will receive a free game with their Wii as part of the package, but they did not know which game this might be. To be sure, we called three different stores, and all said the same thing. Sounds to us like Nintendo might be planning to include Wii Sports, as many have speculated. It would make sense to include this game because it encapsulates what Wii is all about. Not only that, but it shows off how the Wiimote can be used in so many different ways.

Wii Sports is basically a bunch of smaller mini-games, some of which have origins as tech demos. The idea that Nintendo decided to collate these into the Wii Sports game and include them with the Wii therefore is not so hard to believe. At least we now know there will be a game included in the package (at least at Toys'R'Us!) - but the question remains, which one? Wii Sports definately makes the most sense as it is the "Warioware" of the launch line-up for the Wii. We'll be calling more retailers today and will report back with any further updates, so stay tuned!"

OK, the question is, is it definitely US$? It seems a bit odd that an Aussie price works out to exactly US$249, so you then have to ask if this is a US site and it's a typical US mindset of seeing $ signs and assuming they mean US$. Unfortunately, the Toys'R'Us Oz site just says about placing a $50 deposit, no mention of the system price.

i went into a joint on yesterday that had a Wii poster on the door. the guy reckons itll be there sometime between october - november, and $350 AUD. for whats that worth mind you. he is just a guy behind a desk in a game store.

350 AUD = 262.838 USD

this sounds about right, a big company like Toys r us wouldnt put a price on the net if they didnt have some info from ninty.

Why not? I mean we already know that the Wii will sell for under 250USD - so they are on the safe side. I guess like with the PS3 the 50USD deposit are your ticket for a console at launch + pay the "free" game.
