Charlie Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 "Toys'R'Us in Australia are now taking pre-orders for the Wii at US$249, and that will include an unspecified free game! Could Nintendo be including Wii Sports as so many have speculated? After contacting Toys'R'Us for comment, they have indeed confirmed that everyone will receive a free game with their Wii as part of the package, but they did not know which game this might be. To be sure, we called three different stores, and all said the same thing. Sounds to us like Nintendo might be planning to include Wii Sports, as many have speculated. It would make sense to include this game because it encapsulates what Wii is all about. Not only that, but it shows off how the Wiimote can be used in so many different ways. Wii Sports is basically a bunch of smaller mini-games, some of which have origins as tech demos. The idea that Nintendo decided to collate these into the Wii Sports game and include them with the Wii therefore is not so hard to believe. At least we now know there will be a game included in the package (at least at Toys'R'Us!) - but the question remains, which one? Wii Sports definately makes the most sense as it is the "Warioware" of the launch line-up for the Wii. We'll be calling more retailers today and will report back with any further updates, so stay tuned!" http://www.gwn.com/news/story.php/id/9933/
Kav Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Ha ha, at first glance I thought 249?! WHAT?! Then I realised.. Australia... d'uh! ha ha That's cool, hope there's something like this everywhere!
Charlie Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 £100, with a free game... Wow! Add VAT and some other stuff and we're up to £130, like the GC was.
mike-zim Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 you are all missing the currency US$249 have a look at the article. that is american dollars not australian dollars. EDIT: they are offering the same deal with the PS3 although they are saying $50 deposit to get free game http://www.toysrus.com.au/site/default.htm have a look.
James McGeachie Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Uh you do realise this is just them estimating prices though right? A big deal will be made out of it when there's an official confirmed price.
YenRug Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 OK, the question is, is it definitely US$? It seems a bit odd that an Aussie price works out to exactly US$249, so you then have to ask if this is a US site and it's a typical US mindset of seeing $ signs and assuming they mean US$. Unfortunately, the Toys'R'Us Oz site just says about placing a $50 deposit, no mention of the system price.
mike-zim Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 the free game looks to be a toys r us offer not a nintendo offer.

conzer16 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 If indeed it is AUS$ and not US$ that would be €150??? I cant see the Wi being that cheap. Whereas US$249 is about €200. Thats a great price with a free game.
phez_boy Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 i went into a joint on yesterday that had a Wii poster on the door. the guy reckons itll be there sometime between october - november, and $350 AUD. for whats that worth mind you. he is just a guy behind a desk in a game store.
The3rdChildren Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I'm still pretty sure Wii Sports is going to come with the Wii.

Caris Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 this sounds about right, a big company like Toys r us wouldnt put a price on the net if they didnt have some info from ninty.

I mean we already know that the Wii will sell for under 250USD - so they are on the safe side. I guess like with the PS3 the 50USD deposit are your ticket for a console at launch + pay the "free" game.
