Final Fantasy CC: The Crystal Bearers!

We've had small trailers for two years now. S-E duped the public into believing that Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy would be out for Wii launch, and we only just got Dragon Quest two years later, and Japan don't even have FF. We haven't seen anything from it in a year.

We haven't, but don't think that applies to everyone.

Don't you think something's a bit shifty here, considering they were wanting to release it at Wii launch? To make a comment like that, they surely must have had something really solid, playable and close to completion.

Lots of games announced then were meant to release with Wii. Just look at Prime 3 and Smash. The E3 2006 FF:CC was a totally different beast to what the game is now. From what I gather, back then it took huge inspiration from the original Gamecube game. Sometime a while ago however, Crystal Bearers went under a huge overhaul - think of something similar in vein to what's happened with Red Steel 2. That second trailer that was released sometime last year which showed actual gameplay was the very, very eary stages of how it exists today - taking more of a FFXII approach, if anything.

Squeenix can be just as secretive and unpredictable as Nintendo. Who knows? They might just pull back the entire curtain the day after E3 ends.

Didnt Iwata make the same claim about Smash? According to the recent interview in ONM he announced it at E3 and they hadnt even started the thing!

S-E clearly weren't happy with the way it was going and have went back to the drawing board. This compnay is well known for being secretive and taking its time with games so hopefully that is all that is happening and it has been scrapped.

In this months ONM they gave it a quick mention saying that they will have some info about this very soon. However, this is ONM we're talking about :heh:

  • 4 months later...

One of EGM rumours - Square Enix quietly cancelling FF:CC Crystal Bearers for Wii. Look for FF:CC Echoes of Time for DS and Wii.

The others

-Little Big Planet getting Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy content packs. Official Disney LBP content to be revealed in 2009 (Steamboat Willie could be the first Disney content)

-LBP PSP version in 2009. "...fantastically ambitious and will further flesh out the PS3 LBP experience."

-MediaMolecule's next project may be an online RPG game.

-CliffB's next game is a survival horror game, over the top gore and psychological. Maybe multiplatorm.

-Silicon Knight's unannounced long-in-development Sega title is looking for a new publisher.

-BottleRocket making a Flash game (DC superhero)

-Brash Entertainment is gone thanks to shit like Alvin And the Chipmunks, Jumper and Space Chimps.

-Capcom bringing Forgotten Worlds to XBLA/PSN

If this is true... So much fail. Specially when the game appeared to be far in development.

Business sense, Square makes none. Keep ignoring the market leader and pouring millions elsewhere, your profits will certainly rise!

Agreed.

Saying that S-E have sucked this generation on every console, well apart from the handhelds. IMO they just arent the company they once were. You just have to take a look at the other RPGs being developed on the Wii to see that S-E have kinda lost the plot.

i am guessing that S-E are finding the DS,

Because if they didn't support it, they would have no fucking money left.

PSP,
It's getting support only because Nomura is a sony fanboy and wants all his games on Sony :indeed:

and 360
As long as M$ keep giving square $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ then they will keep on making games for 360

That's how I feel about the situation anyway :heh:

Things just got interesting. GoNintendo have posted the story and contacted S-E and they got a reply.

Lets hope so.

Nobody actually believed it was cancelled, did they?

Yes. They announced it two and a half years ago and we've heard practically nothing since then. In that time they've released countless re-releases, a couple of new games, and they've managed to seemingly bring FF13 close to completion and whack another supported platform on it.

^ If you can remember back, the DS game was the same. Announced beside the showing of the DS at E3 2004 and didn't come out till last year, IIRC. Seems fine to me. The media black-out just presumably means they are working away at it and will show it later. Hell, I wouldn't put it passed them to show some new footage tomorrow just to put these rumors to rest, and perhaps some gameplay.

“While much of EGM’s ‘Rumor Mill’ contents end up being accurate, in this case the report is incorrect.

We have never announced that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has been cancelled and have every intention of releasing it. There may be some concerns as a firm ship date has not been set but rest assured there will be an announcement once we finalize the date internally.

Although there are many Square Enix related rumors out there that we do not comment on, due to the feedback from the readers, we felt it was necessary to provide a statement to alleviate the worries of those who are looking forward to the game. The fan base that the Final Fantasy series has is appreciated by everyone at Square Enix (not only the developers) so we hope this statement will prevent any further spreading of the rumor.

We apologize for any unnecessary distress this rumor may have caused and hope the fans of the series can again look forward to the upcoming release of Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.†- Square-Enix statement

Phew! Its officially still in development. :hehe:
