Dutt Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Hey all, I just picked up Smash Bros Melee today at a gamestore and let me just say boy, am I glad I picked this one up. Now this has probably been done to death, but does anyone have any useful tips or tricks for this game? I'd like to up my skills just that little bit.
Kurtle Squad Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 On multiplayer use the C-Stick for quick smashes Also, try every character to find out the ones you like (even if you don't like them to begin with try them a few times)

Drools. What is the name for the Down + B one, where the lightning bolt comes down from the heavens?
Kurtle Squad Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I think that's Thunder; all the original characters attacks are in the manual
Retro_Link Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 The only problem with the c-stick for smashing is that you can't charge the smash move up, but it's good for quick smash attacks. I tend to use Pikachu the most; the only problem with Pikachu is that the reach is too short when you are doing any non-smash moves, such as a standard kick. The Electric Shock Smash Forward is a fantastic move, and Thunder is awesome. Also, Pikachu has abit of a hidden smash move; forward and B, If you charge this up all the way Pikachu launches across the screen and will pretty much smash-out anyone hit by it!!
spirited away Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Way too many tips too talk about now i'll write some down when i have more time. Super smash bros is an awesome game, you'll be playing it for ages! My play time is something like 400hours + which is too much... One tip is use Link, and then some.
Shino Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Just to say I'm amazed that someone picked this game so late.
Hellfire Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 C-Stick is for pussies, a true master doesn't use it.^^ Tips, tips, tips. Try not to spend too much time with the same character, so you can play well with anyone and then see who adjusts better to your style. Then practice, practice, practice.
Nintendo Fan Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 C-Stick is for pussies, a true master doesn't use it.^^ True say, anyway the moves are more powerfull if you hold and charge.
Ten10 Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 With certain characters timing button presses allows you to do different moves. Also slightly changing the analogue stick direction allows you to do attack variations. You can reflect certain attacks with your shield but can take time to master. Throwing Items at a character's face can do more damage than actually using it in some cases. Homerun bat is king end.
Shino Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Ok some real input. Tip: - Try to master 2 diferent caracters with diferent propreties. - Don't use wavedash, it's lame and not even the best players use it. - Don't use c-stick, it's lame and not really helpfull. - Don't play against me, you wont win. (I can't wait for smash wii)
Dutt Posted May 6, 2006 Author Posted May 6, 2006 Just to say I'm amazed that someone picked this game so late. Yeeeeaaaah, I know. It was playing on my mind for a long time up until today, so I just had to give in and own the darned thing! I'm so glad I did though, I have a safe addiction to it right now.
Kurtle Squad Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I dunno why everyone's dissing the C-Stick, I mean it's great for a quick flick; It's rare that someone is gonna fall for a charged smash!!! - Don't use wavedash, it's lame and not even the best players use it. What move are you refering to as Wavedash!?
Hero-of-Time Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I dunno why everyone's dissing the C-Stick, I mean it's great for a quick flick; It's rare that someone is gonna fall for a charged smash!!! I have to agree with Kurt on this one. It you are just playing with your mates then the C-Stick is the way forward especially if they have played it before as they will be able to see the move coming from a mile off. Ah so many good memories from this game, took me ages to get every trophy. I wish I was just starting it again. Wii Smash Bros better be as good.
Pizza Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 If you like pikachu, try this- Sprint, then jump. While in midair, use down+B for the lightning. It won't hit you, and makes a kind of wall behind you...I find it handy, especially with a certain unlockable character. EDIT: C-stick sucks. It's no quicker than a nice normal smash, and does less damage because you can't charge. (actually you can charge with C-stick, but it means lots of bizarre hand positions.
skarmachild Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 What on earth is a wavedash? It's when you run one way very fast, jump and as soon as you do, use the dodge move (R and bottom left/right) in whichever way your running, and keep doing it. I think. It makes you go real fast. Personally I never use it, or the C-Stick. A fun tip. If you have 2 players. Choose 2 Luigi's. Make them face each other but not touching, then use Up+B on the 1st Luigi, then Up+B on the second and keep going, they keep knocking each other up (er..). Quite fun.
spirited away Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 His coin Punch is Horrible, lol Pretty shoddy move...

(I can't wait for smash wii) Erm, actually ALL the best players use it... The worlds best player is Ken and then maybe Bombsoldier (but last time i watched them 2 play, ken won 5 matches out of the 5), and then always use it. Infact, if you intend to master the game (but its kinda late now with the new one coming soon) you will need to use it. However, if you're playing Vs. Mode with your mates and they can't wavedash, then don't bother, because if they can't then its ok . Also, play as marth as he has the best air attacks. Tip: As marth, short hop (press jump lightly and quickly) and then quickly press A (a neutral A attack). That move is so useful

They fight too fast for wavedash to be of any use.
Hellfire Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Pretty shoddy move... Actually, if you're standint DIRECTLY below your oponent it's a very strong move.
spirited away Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Actually, if you're standint DIRECTLY below your oponent it's a very strong move. Most people will see it coming a mile off...
Marthuser Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 wavedashing isnt required to master a character, but it really depends on who your using, for example wding with fox is a key part of using his full potential, but wding with peach has almost no use at all, since she hardly moves at all. also, ken does wavedash, but only rarely, but almost every other pro uses it, along with c-stick.
