I don´t think the madden is fake...show me the source-material or show me one who can take photos of that quality or even do that realness in cgi...

This Wii is a piece of marketing genius. Coming up to E3, wether you are a nintendo fan or not, it's all people can think about. To be honest, I'm a ctually starting to like it.

i'm not sure the're fake either.. the helmet one looks a little too good to be done in such a short space of time... could be concept ads. i like them!

well, they're fake, look at both the nintendo logos, they have a grey noise square surrounding area, that clearly shows that it was copied and dragged from somewhere else... also look at the big blue logo, first... it has dots on the "i"'s whereas they are nowhere to be found on the helmet, also look at the curve it has a inconsistence there, that shows that it was a quick vectorial work, not professional, really...

The helmet is probably a existing logo, the guy who did it, found it like that (or already knew it) and used it to his advantage, just that.

Yeah Ive just seen the source-picture on IGN...too bad.. but it´s strange that the logo exactly resembles a W and 2 I´s even though this mockups appeared about 2 weeks ago as a mockup for this blue-wave-thing ( where does it resemble bluewave in any ways?).... strange...

I've thinking about this name for a while now and I just don't know anymore. It's fun and unusual and different. Casual gamers who aren't teenage males will like it, Nintendo fanboy's wont care about the name, but I can't see it being embraced whole heartedly by the 'Nintendo is kiddy' contingent no matter how much time passes. Some may say who cares about those eejits, which is a fair point, but they do represent a large gaming demographic.

Anyway the point is I'm completely divided now, part of likes it, part loathes it, just like the gaming community and I suspect the public as a whole will. This could be an act of marketing genius by Nintendo or a total cock-up, again I feel it could go either way at the moment. It's like they've just slapped everyone in the world with a wet fish and no-one quite knows what to do about it.

That is the current situation with most people. But at E3 Nintendo will prove that Wii Is a

They do say ii represents the controllers, as well as implying people (or 2 people) gathering, where the vertical line is the body and the dot is the head.

That's very Japanese actually. They've got a pictorial writing system where each character is an evolved picture. Culturally too, they like to use pictorial expressions more aggressively than we do here (like with all the elaborate ^_^ sort of faces).

So, to me, I can see where they're coming from. Still I agree it does sound funny. My immediate reaction was 'wee wee'.

On the other hand, I think we'll get used to it. I remember a lot of people were laughing off the name "Final Fantasy" in early days. People said it sounds like a cheap porn flick. We ain't laughing now thou are we?

EDIT:

My point was this - the trick is to see Wii as a picture, not as a word. At least that's how they would see it. We, on the other hand, can only see it as a word which represents the sound 'wee'. A bit tragic in some ways, but in other ways very VERY interesting. I'm beginning to like it. You just have to see it a bit "differently" from the rest of the crowd, which very much goes with the whole revo concept.

Wii completely agree! Do wii understand or not understand? If wii don't understand wii must say wii don't understand otherwise wii don't understand if wii understand or don't understand. Do wii agree? beer.gif

lol, I love this, it only exposes all of the immature kids around, it's fun to take note of who they are, seriously though, move on or move out, Wii will do the job.

Well having just got up for work (5am) the name has finally sunk in. It doesnt bother me at all now and I cannot wait til E3. Nintendo have grabbed everyones attention and in doing so the Wii will be the main focus for everyone come E3.

This is the first time in my life that I have ever felt the need to slate Nintendo. It's amazing how easily 3 letters can flip my judgement upside down. I'm sorry that I don't like the title, but I really cannot use that word in a sentence. It's too funny. It will be too funny tomorrow, and it will be too funny the day the Wii is realeased. I'm not going into the shop and asking for a Wii. I'm asking for my Nintendo Revolution. ANd that's what I'm going to get. Damn Nintendo if they have to force me to play on a sonsole with a name which a child could concieve. They didn't spend a long time coming up with that name. They simpley ran out of ideas and randomly chose a title. Then came up with some lame ass reasons that it was a good choice.

Well done Nintendo, you've proven that you really don't deserve to get your number one spot back, because you're too stupid to realise that your marketting department sucks, and couldn't create a good title if it crawled upptheir ass. I will buiy this console because I want a new way to play games, but I will never speak the Word Wii unless used in a baiting session. It'll either be Nintendo or Revolution.

I will be ashamed to go and buy this console if the name does not change. I will run in the store and escape quickly.

lol it's amazing how much a name affects people. Nintendo is all about the game not the name. hell if you do not like it then make your own game company and name it whatever you like, nintendo can name it whatever they like and thats that you can't do anything about it.

I've been thinking about the name today, and its actually got a lot of meaning to it. Nintendos E3 presence this year without a doubt will be the most interesting and controversial ever. Expect to be stunned and a LOT of mixed reactions.

The name Wii, I hated it at first and am still a bit iffy about it, but it does carry a lot of meaning. The word "we" will be pivotal in their press conference speech with a lot of repetition.

A few Examples:

"We will change the way you play games forever"

"We will provide you with the best games"

"We will provide you with the a new way to play games"

"We will provide you a back log of over 20 years of gaming goodness and a fully integrated out of the box wireless gaming service"

"We will wii [piss] on the competition" <-- Possible Humour Line

"We will make you say.... [then a huge suprise is unveiled, WOW erupts the entire theatre from the amazement of the audience of what has just been revealed]

Why have Ubisoft pledged so much support for the Wii, simple really, its not only due to the innovative controller, but the name, Ubisoft are a French developer, Wii Wii Wii [French Talk] <-- Need I say more?

What are the games such as Mario Revolution going to be called now, Mario Wii, where you see his back and hes taking a piss on the boxart? Could this be the first time in quite some time where you are actually able to go to the toilet in a game, and that Marios bladder fills up over time and you need to take a wii in designated spots before he faints.

Nintendo are putting everything on the line for this new console, it is obvious they are not content with being second rate this next generation, they are obviously trying to appeal to additional audiences not reached before and attempt to regain to an extent the market it had with NES & SNES consoles, during the glory days. Ultimately, only time will tell whether they succeed, or end up like Sega, just developing games, and not making home consoles [not including Handhelds]
