solitanze Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I'm not exactly sure if this would be possible or has/hasn't been announced/confirmed, but perhaps another feature of the Revolution could be PC compatability where you can connect the Revolution console to your own computer via a USB cable, and be able to play Revolution games on your computer, due to the lower hardware specs. This would be particularly handy when your travelling as the revolution is nice and small, thus not take up much luggage/bag/briefcase space [compared to XBOX360 and PS3] and also it would be cool as you'd no longer be restricted to only playing portable games, but you'd have the option of playing console games as well without actually being at home and playing LEGIT games, not crappy emulated copies of games. Seeing that it looks like a CD drive, it'd be a great deploy to your office work colleagues that have no idea on what it is, as they would assume its a peripheral device for your computer when in fact its a game console and you can be playing games at work providing of course you have nothing particularly important that you must do and you make an effort to conceal the Nintendo logos on the Revolution console. So basically, you'd be able to PLAY REVOLUTION, WITHOUT ACTUALLY HAVING A TELEVISION. NOTE: That with the Revolution, you'd only be able to use the RevMote and not the keyboard or Mouse of your computer when playing Revolution games. Also with PC compatability via USB, it'd mean that your computer would essentially act as a storage device of all the games you purchase off the virtual console meaning that you'll never have any issues with space, even if there is a limitation of space, a built in integrated file manager would mean that you can change your collection every time should there be very limited space for downloads on the Revolution and you can store pictures, sounds/music, videos and sexual material if you like amongst other things right from your own computer and be able to connect to an online network where you can meet up with other Revolution owners and actually be able to exchange purchased games for free, so if you want another game that someone has, and you have a game that the other person wants off the virtual console, you can swap online but to avoid having people exploit the system, they would put a limited number of licences on the games you purchase on the virtual console, meaning that if you try and send multiple copies of a game to a person whos trying to get it for free, it won't work as the licence to play that game has been used up. Just thought i'd post this random thought...
ndreamer Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 not going to happen, besides unless you can control two mouses with one hand and use the key pad with the other controlls whould be very difficult in most games.
BlueStar Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Well you can play pretty much any console through a computer monitor using a VGA box anyway.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 You can connect it to a external harddrive if that helps.
raven_blade2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Well, Nintendo did say that you would be able to play the Revolution on a PC monitor. No other details than that.
dabookerman Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Well, Nintendo did say that you would be able to play the Revolution on a PC monitor. No other details than that. I can play my cube on the pc monitor, no hassle. (altho it looks really shit)
Migraine Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 One thing that confused me was Nintendo spending a lot of time praising Apple, following their design style etc. and then apparently having the DS's USB wifi connector thingy only compatible with Windows XP...(correct me if i'm wrong). If there is some kind of PC compatibility available and it doesn't work on my Mac, I'll hit the roof.

Don't you have to have a metal bar (about the size of a TV) for the remote to work with - like the sensor for the movement - or so says IGN so I don't think playing at work would be that possible

DCK Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 There has to be a sensor for the controller so we will see something similar to the metal bar. It's probably smaller though.

Charlie Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I'm sure we've seen the sensor things. They're very small and will be placed on either side of your TV/monitor. I might've made them up in my mind though....
Nintendork Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 only on Dev kitsPfft, that's standard for all systems. Why say something when you clearly haven't read the IGN hands on with it. Nintendo even said it's a prototype and we shouldn't consider the dev kit to be the final version that we purcahse. The length is prescriptive because any shorter will hinder on the accuracy of the FHC. It might get a little spruced up but don't expect anything more than that.
James McGeachie Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 The very first thing I recall that was ever really said about Revolution was that it'd connect to monitors, back in early 2004 before E3 I think. There's a chance this might've been a good time before they really knew exactly what the system would be like though so it's possibly it's no longer a feature.
Guest Stefkov Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 i always thoughtit was a futuristic webcam type thing, like predator has on his shoulder which folows you around. i joke. i just expect a little bar placed on top of my pc. like tha image above but significantly smaller

Dr.Boo Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 I don't think it will be possible to play Rev games on PC, but what I would find a very nice idea, is if Nintendo would create some kinda data transfer cable so that you can transfer savegames from your Memory Card to your PC and vice versa. BTW, first post here

Dr.Boo Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 Which are mainly posted by members such as........... ... as me, who is such a big Nintendo fan that he even creates Counterstrike maps taking place in a castle haunted by King Boo and his minions

Probably not Nintendo, but Datel are likely to release something that enables you to transfer saves between PC and Revolution.
djamb3 Posted April 18, 2006 Posted April 18, 2006 The worst part of it will be how to avoid piracy. Nintendo wouldn't like it. no no :p
