Julius Posted April 21 Posted April 21 (edited) Well, after months if not years of leaks - and whatever was going on last week - the game seems to be getting announced tomorrow at 11:00 EST (that's 16:00 BST for us Brits). Reminder that this has been heavily rumoured to be getting shadow-dropped. Excited for this, going to be my first Elder Scrolls/Bethesda game when I get to this! Had been thinking about it for my Pledge this year but it wasn't easily accessible – this will do the job just fine Edited April 22 by Julius
Cube Posted April 21 Posted April 21 If it has a new soundtrack, I'm in. If not, I'll wait for mods to replace the soundtrack.

Correction: standard edition includes the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions along with the additional DLC, but the new quests with new armour/weapons/horse armour and the digital artbook and OST are locked behind the Deluxe Edition.

Julius Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 Just now, Cube said: Wow, that's expensive, and it's not even the full verison. It includes all the expansions/DLC and is only missing the newly added quests/armour/weapons? Which thankfully makes it a pretty easy skip for me on the Digital Deluxe edition, so I'll gladly save that £10 and spend it elsewhere
Happenstance Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Just bought the PS5 version and am downloading it now. 1
Happenstance Posted April 24 Posted April 24 Bit disappointed to see some stuttering while wandering around in Oblivion. Hope they do some work to smooth it out quickly. 1
Hero-of-Time Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Here's an interesting piece by IGN. https://www.ign.com/articles/indie-publisher-boss-feels-the-pain-for-our-team-after-the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-remastered-shadow-drop-sucks-the-air-out-of-the-room The indie developer they talk to explains how much damage these kind of drops can do to smaller games. 1
Happenstance Posted April 26 Posted April 26 One of those things where I feel sorry for them but don’t really have much else to say. Games can be released whenever they want and I don’t think publishers need to consider other titles however they want to release their game, planned or surprise. 2

I think it comes back to the issue that there are simply far too many games being made. People only have so much free time and money and the big hitters are always going to come first for the majority of gamers. 2

Sega probably should though. Still baffles me that Sonic Superstars was released so close to Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Happenstance Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Anyone heard anything on how well Oblivion is running on pc? The stuttering is getting so distracting on PS5 that I’m thinking about just rebuying it before I get too far in. 1

I've heard that the stuttering is also a big issue on PC, but fixable with specific settings, edition ini files and messing with DLLs. 1
Happenstance Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Maybe I’ll just put it to the side for now until they fix it and grab Clair Obscur instead…
Dcubed Posted April 26 Posted April 26 3 hours ago, Hero-of-Time said: @Happenstance UE5 strikes again. This version of the engine really has just been a complete failure hasn’t it? Shame, since UE4 was really very solid; UE5 though just universally runs worse in every single instance, even when you turn off all of its defining features.

Thanks for shouting up about this, I hadn't been paying too much attention to how it has been received technically on PS5 and was planning to play it next...but I don't mind waiting a few weeks for them to hopefully patch it up a bit after reading and hearing some of the impressions. Such a shame, but I've waited this long, so what's a few more weeks? 20 hours ago, Dcubed said: UE5 strikes again. This version of the engine really has just been a complete failure hasn’t it? Not me starting to get nervous about Mafia: The Old Country and the Snake Eater remake now that you've mentioned this... It's clearly a care thing, though – wasn't Split Fiction also using UE5? And I'm pretty sure that's universally lauded for it's technical performance. Then again, even if mostly developed by an external studio, this remaster does have the Bethesda name on it, so maybe my hopes were too high Edited April 27 by Julius 1
Julius Posted April 30 Author Posted April 30 Some of the guys on the original Oblivion sat down together to watch the 2006 documentary on the game Quote In 2006 a documentary captured the lives and work of the team who made The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Almost two decades later, the same team returned to watch the documentary. Watch as the Bethesda Game Studios developers reflect on Oblivion, then and now. Go back to the chess club
Julius Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 The official Bethesda channel has released a diorama-like tilt-shift video on this game's Cyrodiil, which is all kinds of wonderful: Love it, very surprised to see their official channel put a video out like this – but I'm not complaining!
Julius Posted May 10 Author Posted May 10 Digital Foundry have already re-tested this on consoles, and uh, yeah... Quote A second round of console testing for the Oblivion Remaster reveals the extent of the game's performance issues. Hitches, sub-60fps drops, crashes and uneven frame-pacing on its 30fps quality mode blight every platform, including PS5 Pro tested today. Also curious is the manner in which continuous play time affects performance on all console platforms. ...might be a while until I get around to playing this. A memory leak issue? Really? I seem to remember hearing and reading nightmare stories about Bethesda games on PS3 having similar issues relating to the save file size. My curiosity and concern for the Snake Eater remake is ever-growing considering Virtuos are also handling that. UE5 is already known to have issues in the wrong hands/when not tested thoroughly, so is this just a terrible combination of UE5 over the top of Bethesda's messy engine underneath, or are Virtuos just pushing too hard and too fast to be a Bluepoint alternative?
