Julius Posted March 11 Posted March 11 (edited) Sorry, but I have zero idea where this should be put, especially with as little info as they've given, but it's something I want to recognise somewhere and so here's a thread for it To commemorate Chrono Trigger's 30th anniversary today in Japan, the official Square Enix JP Twitter account posted this: Quote Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of "Chrono Trigger" in 1995. This timeless masterpiece that transcends generations and is still talked about today was born from a dream project by Yuji Horii of "Dragon Quest," Akira Toriyama of "Dragon Ball," and Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of "Final Fantasy." As we mark the 30th anniversary, we will be launching various projects that go beyond the world of the game over the next year to express our gratitude to everyone who has played Chrono Trigger so far. The latest information will be posted on Square Enix Official X and @ChronoTriggerPR, so please look forward to it. This could be a lot of things, or a lot of nothing. It's Square Enix, so get ready for that monkey's paw to curl! Yeah, yeah, okay, let's be realistic first up: I imagine there'll be [Japan-only] concerts. Probably some merch. Maybe an anime or something. A stage play. A mobile game. I don't know, that's what Suikoden did sooooooo I think we should finally see a port of Chrono Trigger come to consoles at long last this year. It's long, long, long overdue at this point. I seriously have no idea why it's taken so long. The Steam version released in like 2018 is functional enough to just bring over virtually as-is, I feel like. On the outskirts of my mind, I do think there's a very, very, small, tiny chance at a HD-2D Remake announcement following the completion of the Erdrick Trilogy HD-2D Remakes after DQ I & II HD-2D release later this year. It really depends on how much Square Enix want to charge for it, but I just can't see them lazily porting it over for, say, £15 and being done with it when they could make so much more with a HD-2D Remake. Anyways, yeah, guess we'll need to wait and see! More importantly: happy 30th, Chrono Trigger! Truly one of the greats Edited March 11 by Julius 2
Dcubed Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I expect nothing. A smart company would let Team Asano do a HD-2D Remake, but S-E is not a smart company... 2
Hero-of-Time Posted March 11 Posted March 11 It annoys and baffles me so much that Chrono Trigger isn't on modern consoles in some form. I'd even take a simple port of it. 1
WackerJr Posted March 12 Posted March 12 That they haven’t made any reference to games makes me skeptical, no matter how much I’d love to see some from of remake or update. I can see there being some sort of concert or a set of Chrono Trigger tracks within another concert, as the music is great. Saying that, I’ve almost finished my first ever playthrough and, like others, I can’t believe this has been sitting idle while other lesser RPGs get re-releases, it’s fantastic. It’s aged a little, but still plays well today. A few QoL improvements, as well as graphical updates is all it really needs for me. 3
The Bard Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Chrono Trigger is a perfect, self contained game. I'll take a concert, some events or a "making of" video etc. Don't particularly care for a sequel from S-E though. Especially when there are games like Sea of Stars, Threads of Time and other Noun preposition Noun games. Studios have taken up that baton and are running with it. But I don't think anything is ever going to match up to CT. 1 1
Julius Posted Friday at 05:04 PM Author Posted Friday at 05:04 PM (edited) So uh, HoriiLeaks has potentially just struck again?! Apparently a remake could really be happening?!?!?! Source is a firsthand account shared on Reddit from Napoli Comicon, where Yuji Horii was conducting an interview today: Quote The father of Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger let this information slip during an interview. The host whispered something in his ear, and he covered his mouth. The audience went crazy. Another exchange from the same Reddit post in which OP clarifies what happened further: Quote Q: Someone on another forum claimed that he accidentally mentioned a Chrono Trigger remake, someone whispered in his ear (presumably to remind him that this is a secret), he covered his mouth as if he'd just said something he shouldn't have, and the audience cheered. Since you were there, can you confirm this happened? OP: I can confirm I was among those who cheered. He said something along the line of what you said and the interviewer said "Wait, if that's true, this is big" The translator asked for a confirmation to Horii who presumably understood that he shouldn't have said that and the translator commented: "You have heard nothing" Worth remembering that Mr Horii was the one who confirmed that Dragon Quest I & II HD were being considered very shortly after III HD-2D was announced, and long before we got official confirmation. But it is Chrono Trigger's 30th this year... Edited Friday at 05:11 PM by Julius
Glen-i Posted Friday at 05:13 PM Posted Friday at 05:13 PM Yuji Horii after his "slip-up" The best leaker in the business! He also confirmed DQ7 and 8 English localisations during the 3DS era. I buy it! 2

So remakes for IX, Chrono Trigger, and Tactics, huh... ...hard to complain or fault them for it to be honest and I'll happily spend whatever silly amount they ask for when it comes to a Chrono Trigger Remake Collector's Edition!
Ike Posted Friday at 07:17 PM Posted Friday at 07:17 PM Ah, good old Yuji Horii. 47 minutes ago, Dcubed said: HD2D or we riot! And give Frog back his "Ye Ol' English"! 1
Glen-i Posted Friday at 07:28 PM Posted Friday at 07:28 PM (edited) 2 hours ago, Ike said: And give Frog back his "Ye Ol' English"! Considering that both Live A Live, and Dragon Quest III got voice acting, if this is the next HD-2D project, that means it's likely everyone will have official voices. That's gonna be weird after the amount of times I've played this. EDIT: Actually, this is the perfect time for this. Edited Friday at 09:33 PM by Glen-i 1
