EEVILMURRAY Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) It's that time again, more live than Jools Holland and his false shenanigans... Last year's to see how we did https://forum.n-europe.com/topic/39929-eevils-new-year-resolution-thread-2024-edition/#comment-1909129 My trees are still there... So the challenge continues. Games Workshop reset the game systems which has held back my previous more-gamings resolution because the enthusiasm had gone a little because I have to reprogramme my memory. The YouTube channel still exists but has nothing on it, but one of my main resolutions is to focus on this, and try and get one video a month. I got a Keylab for Christmas which gives me access to a wealth of instruments which is making me feel more confident and don't have to fear about reaching out for collabs. But I am working on trying to teach myself piano (Duolingo helping a bit here, but I think it's done all it can on a mobile screen) I'm also trying to be more careful with my money, I usually put about £100 in a second account each payday, and then I spend willy-nilly and often have to dip into the second account to make sure I don't overdrawn before next payday. For the past couple of months I've been recording my post-expenses spending and trying to stay within £100 a week and put £200 in my second account Your turn! Ashley Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 I'll respond properly but turns out the forum gets confused when the year changes. Rather than saying the latest post in a forum is X hours/days ago it says "Dec 31". Weird quirk. Anyway, it's 2025 where I am so happy new year and all that! 2
Julius Posted Wednesday at 12:27 AM Posted Wednesday at 12:27 AM (edited) I've got a few goals for the year that I guess would come under being resolutions, buuuuuuuuuut I think I'll just share them one at a time as I get to confronting or completing each goal to save myself from feeling some sense of additional pressure First up, and one I'm happy to share because it's one I need to start getting the ball rolling on soon, is to get my full driver's license. I'm going to finally pulling the trigger on starting driving lessons – and along with that trying to get my practical test booked and passed by the end of the year; though, of course, scheduling, how the lessons themselves go, and all that means the latter may not be totally in my hands. But the aim is by all means to have my full licence and be driving my own car by the end of the year. I did my theory last year, which went great, and this is just one of those things I've kicked down the curb a few times - understandably I think at times, but I feel like I was clearly avoiding it at others - but to be honest, at this point, I'm just sick of being in Stourbridge all of the time. If figuring on it from that perspective is what it takes to finally get to doing this? Then so be it Edited Wednesday at 01:05 AM by Julius

Will Posted Wednesday at 01:12 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:12 PM These are not too well thought out but very loosely I think my goals for the year are in the following areas: Get Fit: I’ve been slowly slipping into worse and worse shape since moving back to the UK. I just hate running in the cold and haven’t really gotten going with anything else. I may finally join a gym but I definitely need to get more consistent with just doing something. Sort Finances: I’ve been spending an insane amount of money the last few months, new car, Christmas, new furniture, random stuff we don’t really need, etc. etc. I’m now regularly putting money away for big stuff like house things and car insurance but I need to get better at general saving. Work Success: My new job I pretty much have the freedom to do whatever I want. I’d like to launch a couple of products I’m really proud of during the year as I feel I haven’t done that in quite a while. Bonus points if I can work out some really nice partnerships to do that through. Apartment Uprising: I’m sick to death of the management company that runs my complex. I’m going to rally the other owners and take it over. Family Time: I don’t feel I’m bad on this at all but I just want to enjoy time with the family - its whizzing by and I just want to take the time to be in the moment rather than having a million other things fighting for time. 1
Ashley Posted Wednesday at 02:36 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:36 PM I at best half succeeded at the goals from last year. My travel plans have been pushed back for a year and my contract extended for a year. Finally opening a gym this month though 1 hour ago, Will said: I may finally join a gym ... What was I saying? Oh yes. Spent a long time this year trying to find a space but finally found one and in the process of setting it all up. It won't be profitable straight away, but hopefully long term this will be some kind of financial security which I was hoping for last year. Language I failed at, really did not do much this year. I underestimated how time consuming work would be. In terms of 2025 I'm not too sure. Planning to do a review next week of gym stuff and then set gym-specific goals for the year but everything else... Just see what the year brings? 1 1

I think it came to light during COVID, I feel like there was a bit of a "Who are you?" thread. I'm fairly sure I already knew @Ashley was from around Birmingham (for some reason in my head it's filed next to him talking about the sailors in Shenmue... ), I was surprised to learn @Will was originally from around here too (as I think you were living outside of the UK at the time?). Small world (only made smaller being stuck in Stourbridge )

Jonnas Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago So, this is a weird year for Resolutions. I'm already in the middle of a lot of changes (career-wise, personal, health...), so I guess the only tangible resolution I can make is to make sure I don't neglect myself or my needs, so that I'm up to whatever challenge is ahead of me. On a smaller, N-E related note, I want to... reply more. There are days where I feel like all of my engagement in this website is to react to a few good posts, but then I don't add anything. So, I want to give more input, participate more in discussions. This is a valuable corner of the internet, and I want to make it better. 1
