Glen-i Posted April 22 Posted April 22 Engage has an excellent soundtrack! Only second to Echoes according to my very expert Fire Emblem (4 games finished) experience. 1

Jonnas Posted April 22 Posted April 22 (edited) I really should've made a prediction for this week. I literally had the necessary info to know they would add a significant Fire Emblem title Regarding best soundtrack in the series, it's hard to choose between Fates, Echoes, and Three Houses. But Engage has got some sauce. Seeing as I don't care for this game's spoilers, I'm looking forward to exploring this soundtrack a bit more. On a side note, I'd love to see them add the soundtrack for Binding Blade. Easily the most underrated OST in the series. Edited April 22 by Jonnas

Jonnas Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I'd like to take a moment in appreciation of MK8's soundtrack. It's no secret that I don't care much for this series, but I took a chance in listening to its soundtrack on the music app, and goddamn! Some excellent tracks there. But what truly impressed me were the remixes from previous entries. I was more familiar with Double Dash's soundtrack (a game I actually owned), so I could tell they spruced up those tracks very nicely. But the fact that this is true for every single entry is kind of bonkers. I'm listening to MK7's soundtrack now, and I was surprised at how unimpressive it feels by comparison. Toad Circuit is a good example, being an absolutely generic MK-style track in 7, but an actual feast for the ears in MK8. So yeah, MK8's music mastery has won me over. All thanks to the Nintendo Music App. 1 1
Julius Posted May 13 Posted May 13 The soundtrack Pokémon Sword & Shield was added to the service earlier today: I've been increasingly getting in a Pokémon mood as of late... 1
Glen-i Posted May 13 Posted May 13 Finally, a top-tier Pokémon soundtrack! Honestly, I think only Black/White clears it as far as the mainline series goes. 1

S/S’ soundtrack is amongst the series’ better ones for sure. Far better than Gens 6, 7 and 9. I’d put it a step below Gens 1-5 overall though, despite having some real select bangers (like the Gym Leader music). Edited May 13 by Dcubed

Jonnas Posted Friday at 10:21 AM Posted Friday at 10:21 AM I was really hoping that the next Pokémon soundtrack would be from an older generation. Gen 4 would be a nice companion for Legends Arceus. Gen 6 would be good promotion for Legends Z-A. Gen 2 would be fun, because that's the one I want. I'm just disappointed they gave priority to a recent Switch game again, as there's a lot of those in the app already, including every single featured Pokémon title. And this is coming from someone who likes the Sword&Shield soundtrack (Sonia's Theme is going straight into my cozy playlist) Meanwhile, this is the second time in a row where the game they added is somehow connected to the soundtrack I'm currently exploring. Last time it was Mario Kart, this time, it is Pokémon. I don't really have any intentions of playing Arceus, but this soundtrack really makes it sound like a very fun game to explore: I haven't played Gen 4, so I don't get every musical reference (I did hear Route 209 in the Credits theme, that was neat), but the soundtrack definitely stands strong on its own. Lots of new entries into my "Cozy" and "Ambient" playlists. 1

It was! I think Arceus is probably the purest reflection of Game Freak's current goals with the main series Pokémon games. I think my favourite part of the soundtrack for Legends: Arceus is how the music in these supposed "new areas" makes it clear that they aren't new at all, you're just visiting Sinnoh at a different time. I'm a big Gen IV fan - it's arguably the main I grew up on, and certainly coincided with the peak of interest in Pokémon from my particular school year - so just want to chime in on the two pieces you mentioned, because they're some of my favourite too! You mention Route 209 turning up in the Credits theme – but the opening flourish to Crimson Mirelands is also a call back to the opening flourish of Route 209, as the Crimson Mirelands are itself found in the southeast portion of the Sinnoh map which would include Route 209! It also harkens back to the surrounding towns and environments of that area in modern Sinnoh (Solaceon Town, The Great Marsh, etc.). The Heartwood is probably one of my favourites examples of this in the game, though. In the first part of the track it rather subtly and elegantly makes it clear that yes, you're back in Eterna Forest (my pick for the best forest in all of Pokémon by the way, just thanks to the music and vibes). Then at 03:30 in the video, just the way it reaches through time, grabs you, and screams at your soul that you're back in Eterna Forest, and back wherever you were when you first encountered it as a kid I forgot where I was for a second and was transported back to a much simpler time playing through the game for the first time. Legends: Arceus is by no means a perfect game but damn it it doesn't just connect on a whole other level. My favourite main series Pokémon game since the DS games, for sure The "final" trainer battle and the music used also retraumatised an entire generation of Pokémon trainers which I will forever be grateful for, especially so recently coming off the back of Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl at the tome I'll throw it in a spoiler tag just in case you didn't want to see and haven't yet... Spoiler Damn it, @Jonnas, I've got a retro gaming market I'm going to on Sunday and I know they'll have a whole bunch of Pokémon cards on sale there too. I was already starting to get back into the Pokémon mood, but revisiting the Legends: Arceus soundtrack has only doubled down on my Pokémon hype – the last thing my wallet needed right now! 1
Glen-i Posted Friday at 07:29 PM Posted Friday at 07:29 PM (edited) Yeah, Legends: Arceus has a good soundtrack (Helped by the exceptionally strong base that Gen 4 has), but for me, it has the same problem that BotW has. It barely ever plays in actual gameplay. Most of the in-game sounds will just be ambient noises/Pokémon cries, and unless you actually hang around, doing nothing, you won't hear most of the actual song once it starts, because you'll leave the area and, woops! Music gone. I still think Sword/Shield is better though, just because it can't rely on classic tunes. Also, Gym Leader Battles an have absolutely banging mix of football chants and rave music! Dcubed Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Worth noting that both the NES and FDS versions of the Kid Icarus soundtrack are included.

Can't hear the 209 reference in the Mirelands, though. The initial jingle in Mirelands 1 could be considered similar, but even that feels pretty distinct. Reveal hidden contents So, this is a funny thing. Youtube thumbnails spoiled me on this matter back when the game was new (and I did check to see what that was about). Not that the spoiler would matter much to me (I wasn't planning on playing the game), but it looked like a pretty intense moment. Also, the music app refuses to show screenshots for these tracks. Added it to my "intense" playlist regardless. 17 hours ago, Julius said: Kid Icarus has been added to the service. Nice It's surprisingly triumphant 8-bit, and the stage tracks are super fun, very jolly.
