Julius Posted September 24 Author Posted September 24 5 speedrun levels and 10 new bots being added in the free add-on previously announced, due Fall 2024: Felt like a statement of intent to open with this, as well as a way to give Nicolas and the rest of the team their flowers!
Julius Posted September 29 Author Posted September 29 (edited) So, uh, this ad and its use of Astro and friends is incredible And sharing because I found it charming and funny: Edited September 30 by Julius 1

Julius Posted October 11 Author Posted October 11 You guys remember Christopher Dring of games industry.biz, the guy who had us sweating bullets over Astro Bot's sales over here in the UK and Europe? Well, the U-turn is now complete: he's now saying that Astro Bot has had the best start to sales for a non-Mario 3D platformer in Europe, which 1) is huge, 2) is very much deserved, and 3) is completely the opposite of his initial tone and concern for the game's sales last month! Quote Astro Bot has done better than basically every new 3D platform game in the last 10 years (Mario aside). Its true success won't be known for years, but it's had a strong start for the genre.

Julius Posted October 16 Author Posted October 16 Speedrun levels will be dropping weekly starting tomorrow! Quote As announced in the recent State of Play trailer, starting on October 17 we will be releasing the first of our brand new speedrun levels, Building Speed. These levels will test your platforming skills and alongside an online leaderboard, will give you the chance to compete against all your PlayStation friends. In Building Speed, with the help of Barkster, the bulldog booster, you will blast your way through a sky-high city. Dodge cranes, smash through crates, and even speed through a flying car wash on the way to rescue your stranded crew. Quote The release schedule is as follows: Oct 17: Building Speed Oct 24: Let it Slide Oct 31: Spring-loaded Run Nov 7: Helium Heights Nov 14: Rising Heat Note: All Astro Bot updates* from October 17 to November 14 will be available every Thursday at 6:00am PT, 2:00pm BST, and 10:00pm JST. Quote What's more, each of these new levels contains two brand-new Special Bots for you to rescue. That's 10 new beloved characters to add to your crew. We gave a sneak peek of Eve from Stellar Blade and the Helldivers. However, as for who is next, well that's for you to find out. So, get busy rescuing. 1
Hero-of-Time Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Played through the first speedrun level. Fun enough but very short. I'll probably wait until they have all been released before firing the game back up again. Happy to see that each stage comes with new trophies though.
Julius Posted October 17 Author Posted October 17 Put probably 20 minutes or so into Building Speed, very fun. After the first run and seeing the times others had posted, my aim for today was just to see if I could get a sub-35s, which didn't take very long, but was very tight: Couple of attempts later got it down a bit more: And currently at...#1287. Not a terrible start, though I imagine I'll drop down the rankings a good bit by tomorrow once more people have jumped on. Think I'll just be chipping away at each of these when I feel like it for the week they're released before moving onto the next, and when I do jump on probably just try to set myself a goal time to beat, just to see how much I can push my own time down. This is also a great excuse for me to finally try out some of the costumes as I didn't touch them during my time completing the main game, so went with Wander today, and think I'll rotate a new look in every time a new challenge drops Think this is a great excuse to revisit the game, and if nothing else I think it's a really smart move to keep it in the conversation for TGAs (I mean, notice that the last one drops mid-November, around when TGA nominations drop?). Found myself just wandering around and checking in on all of the VIP Bots, which is always a pleasure – and speaking of, don't forget to pick up the capsules for the new VIP Bots! Hate that just adding a VIP Bot for the game kind of makes me want to pick up Rise of Ronin...but I must resist and save my samurai cravings for Ghost! 1
Aneres11 Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Playing this at the moment. Really enjoying it. The only niggle I do have is I'm not sure how much I like these tiny compact levels... It's good on one hand as it means they can go hell for leather on the different power ups etc, but on the other hand it begins to feel like you're not really playing a full game? I don't know how to explain it. I think I'd rather it be a bigger adventure style game rather than this multiple mini game feel it gives me. Having said that, though, it doesn't matter greatly as what I have played is just brilliant. Full of charm, great power ups that add different ways to play this genre and the implementation of the controller is the cherry on the cake. Looking forward to carrying on this evening and getting through some more. 1
Shorty Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Picked this up at the Black Friday price, couldn't resist! Even though I still have a heck of a back catalogue...
Shorty Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago So far I think I definitely echo what @Aneres11 said. Lots of small individual levels that are obviously oozing with charm but otherwise a little bit linear. Not scratching that Mario itch but definitely having a good time with it. I've done about half (?) of the game pretty quickly and only once or twice did I even have to backtrack because I had found a bot out of sequence. That said it's great fun to play, mixing up the gameplay with all the powerups reminds me of It Takes Two in that there's so many different mechanics it always feels like lots of little games stuck together. Great game but if it's still holding it's value by the time I finish, I'll probably sell it 😅
