drahkon Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Three Fields Entertainment, the studio founded by the creators of Burnout, has announced its first game: Dangerous Golf. Dangerous Golf is due out as a download game on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store and Steam in May 2016. Alex Ward, who co-founded Criterion Games in 2000 then, after leaving EA, co-founded Three Fields Entertainment in 2014, told Eurogamer Dangerous Golf is a bit like Burnout's wonderful Crash Mode. In it you attempt to smash up four locations (a petrol station, a kitchen, a palace ballroom and a medieval castle), while performing trick shots for high scores. You can turn your golf ball into a bomb and set off what's called your "SmashBreaker". The destructive power of the ball increases as it heats up. "Burnout Crash Mode came from watching people try and play the racing and screwing up," Ward said. "I think we'd seen a Flash game online where you could roll a car down a hill. It was like bowling. "Crash Mode with a golf ball is probably pretty apt." Like Burnout's Crash Mode, Dangerous Golf has turn-based couch co-op, as well as online multiplayer. Crash Mode with a golf ball Crash Mode with a golf ball Crash Mode with a golf ball Well, that's me sold right there. Also: Couch co-op and online multiplayer. : peace: Source: Eurogamer.net
drahkon Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 (edited) Game's out now. Eurogamer gave this a Recommended. Bought it. Downloading now. Will do some couch co-op with the lady when it's done Edit: It's 17.99€, comes with a 10% PS+ discount, i.e. 16.19€ for PS+ subscribers. Edited June 3, 2016 by drahkon
S.C.G Posted June 3, 2016 Posted June 3, 2016 Burnout Crash Mode Golf? £15? Destroy everything in your path for the sake of it while getting the ball in the hole? Take my money now, company that is Criterion in all but name! : peace:
drahkon Posted June 3, 2016 Author Posted June 3, 2016 Played this for 3 hours straight. It's so much fun. Not for everyone, though.
S.C.G Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 I can't wait! 10 minutes to go... not bad considering I only started downloading it around half an hour ago, for a 5.6Gb game. Considering the amount of time I spent playing Burnout and its Crash Mode, there is almost no chance that I'm not going to enjoy this to its fullest.
S.C.G Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 So I played this for a good hour or so last night, loved every minute of it because really, what's not to love? Crash Mode with a Golf Ball! It's exactly that... but with medals ranging from Bronze to Platinum - I refuse to move onto the next hole until getting all medals - plus the special sauce collectable - gotta destroy 'em all! - and just a really fun leaderboard score game. I want to try out the co-op too, do you get two golf balls or is it turn-based? Personally I'd love to hear your impressions on this one @drahkon! : peace:
drahkon Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 (edited) I want to try out the co-op too, do you get two golf balls or is it turn-based? It's turn based. Most of the destruction done form the first player remains for the second. This makes a strategic approach to levels surprisingly important. (Edit: That's the way it works with only one controller for both players...I assume it's the same if you have 2 or more controllers) So far the lady and I have only played co-op. And we love it. I refuse to move onto the next hole until getting all medals Are you playing on PS4? If so, could you leave me one really easy highscore to beat for the trophy? I'll do the same for you once I start the single player. We could also try to get the "win an online game" trophy. : peace: I haven't found a single online match, yet...I really hope the trophy can be boosted. Edited June 4, 2016 by drahkon
RedShell Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 This is definitely on my to get list, looks hilarious. I love these kind of games where you can go nuts and create chaos. Reminds me a bit of Eledees, just with way more going on and a lot more destruction.

Nevermind. @S\.C\.G The online match I've played...I wrecked them. I had double the score of what the guy in second place had And I've beat your score on the first single-player hole. : peace: The offline party mode trophy is easy. The lady and I have played this 4 hours last night...it was a lot of fun
Dcubed Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Yup, I'll be picking this one up myself shortly. Love Burnout Crash mode and how can you possibly go wrong with combining Burnout Crash mode with explosive golf? You can't!
drahkon Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 (edited) One thing I hope the devs will improve: The camera. If you're too close to the wall it's a pain to aim. Aaaaaand something that would make this game even more awesome: Remove the loading times when you retry a level. It's not that bad but for a game like this a quick retry would be perfect. Edit: Not going to happen... [tweet]739112949487415296[/tweet] Anyway, will give the singleplayer a proper go tomorrow : peace: Edited June 5, 2016 by drahkon
drahkon Posted June 6, 2016 Author Posted June 6, 2016 Played 5 holes in singleplayer and I now understand how to properly move the ball during Smashbreaker. L2 and R2 are as vital as Danger Time. It's a great game to just sit back, put on some music and enjoy for a while Can't wait to play this again with my girlfriend : peace:
drahkon Posted July 12, 2016 Author Posted July 12, 2016 (edited) Patch is out. Fast RestartsWe've reduced them from 30secs to 2-3 secs and it transforms the game in Single Player, in Co-Op and in Party Golf. Simplified Control System Option We've implemented simpler SmashBreaker and Drop controls and we've also added in game prompts for all actions. Note that if you have a previous save game the controls will default to the original, more advanced controls. You can change this in Settings. More Control on Tee and Putt Introduced 'Free Aim' on the Tee and in Putt. Aim where you want on every hole, 360 degrees of movement. New Follow Cams On the Tee and the Putt and we've also improved Camera Collision with the Ball. (The Follow Cameras can be turned off and on in the Settings Menu). You can also now use Danger Time in the Tee off. Better Introduction to Game Features We've brought back an old friend, Ted Stryker, the LA DJ who recorded all our Burnout 3 v/o, to narrate our new Tutorial Video as well as adding per hole loading tips. The tutorial is already on YouTube: More Destructive Power New SmashWave feature enables Players to cause even more destruction whilst clearing their path to the Flag. More Humour The ESRB upped our rating to Comic Mischief based on 'flatulence sounds being heard in the bathroom level'. We thought that was hilarious so listen out for more comic sounds. Optimised Frame Rate We have optimised every Hole and the game runs at a smooth 30fps. Frame Rate counter option on PC. Hole Updates We have listened to player feedback and fixed the Holes that people disliked and evened out the difficulty curve. Bug Fixes including Environment Collision, Translations, Leaderboards and Crashes Ted Stryker is back. Maybe it's a tease to a spiritual Burnout successor...PLEASE BE! The lady and I have been playing this regularly and we are almost done with co-op. : peace: We might play the single player in "co-op" (taking turns) after that and get all platinum medals Edit: The patch turns an 8.5/10 into a 10/10 for me. That fast restart is awesome. The long loading times didn't bother me in co-op because I could just...do things with the lady, but for singleplayer it really makes things quicker The added one button controls improve the control scheme a lot. It's such a fun game Edited July 12, 2016 by drahkon

drahkon Posted July 19, 2016 Author Posted July 19, 2016 My girlfriend and I have finished Co-Op : peace: We didn't get Platinum medals on all levels but we got at least gold medals We've started playing the singleplayer going for Platinum medals and my goodness it can be tough. In co-op you could get lots of points if the first player manages to smash all tragets. They then reset for the second player so getting a lot of points was quite easy. In single player you don't have that luxury which makes some levels quite difficult. While I like the challenge, the lady is getting a bit frustrated at times. Really hope the game sold/sells well. I want to see more from Three Fields Entertainment. And like everyone else I want to see a spiritual Burnout successor.
Cube Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I really should get this game at some point. Especially as the developers put my name in it.
drahkon Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 [tweet]758219045682475008[/tweet] And there it is, a spiritual successor to Burnout is in the making. (Alex Ward is a member of Three Fields Entertainment
