liger05 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I reckon the FIFA bubble is bursting pretty soon. Much like when everyone liked PES and then slowly migrated to FIFA (myself included) Having played the last iterations of each PES is really really catching up big time. Not just from a Wii U point of view, it may not even come out on it, but in general I'm much more excited for PES this year. Also EA can do one "our award winning HD gameplay" from a year ago. I mean those people who picked up a Wii U at the start are likely to be hardcore knowledgable gamers, who knew full well what they were trying to pull with us! I have no shame in admitting I loved a bit of FIFA on my xbox, played 12 to death, but I wasn't going to pay for it again repackaged as 13. Tosh. Really. PES sales get lower and lower each year. Fifa's popularity isnt decreasing anytime soon I say that as someone who hasnt bought Fifa since Fifa 11. I hope with nextgen the game actually sees the improvement it needs but as I said there is no indicator to say the bubble is bursting. If PES comes out on the Wii U I will wait 2 weeks simply cos PES hits the bargain bin so quickly.
Kaepora_Gaebora Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 @khilafah and @liger05 yeah no you're both absolutely right in terms of sales and money it brings in, I have no doubt it will see similar success as 13 if not even higher. I didn't make it clear in my post, but I meant from a game play point of view that the bubble will burst, and it won't be considered the best football game on the market. To be fair I think even when PES was the 'better' game FIFA still outsold it, but I feel that PES can, if trends continue, be the best football game on the market this time around. Best seller? No. Best gameplay? Yes!

The 'core' were on PES but so many people switched from PES to Fifa when PES ignored next gen and still ran like a PS2 game and I think its going to take some major fuckups from EA to see those people switch back to PES. In the space of 2-3 years PES lost so many fans due to its incompetence and I think it wont be easy getting those back.
nekunando Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 When you consider what Konami did for Pro Evolution Soccer on Wii, I really hope we get an excellent version of the game on Wii U, whether it be traditional or an all new way to play I've expressed before that I don't particularly care for FIFA, but if we don't get PES either that could be a travesty
Wii Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I think the FIFA licence has a lot of sway with the casual market. PES on the Wii was great, yes the graphics could have been a lot better(PS2 level graphics) but the gameplay was great. I'd love for PES to have the FIFA licence.
Zechs Merquise Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Indeed As far as mass market acceptability and reach goes I think MS are going to nail it with their conference. The fact they're kicking things off (no pun intended) with FIFA and COD bodes very well for mainstream wow factor. Everyone has been quick to write of MS, but I see them shocking people with what they have planned. On another note: screw FIFA and PES - everyone who knows anything about football games knows they peaked with ISS on the N64

Everyone has been quick to write of MS, but I see them shocking people with what they have planned. I can see why gamers on forums may be massively disappointed or not interested, but they're a tiny portion of the audience. With focus on FIFA/CoD and Kinect, I think the Xbox may potentially be the best seller this generation. They're going to focus on the casual market, which is where the bigger sales are. Sony realise they can't really compete with that, so they're focusing on the gamers and developers.
madeinbeats Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Not to mention, a massive share of the PS3 market have only bought one in the last 2 years or so. What's worrying for both MS and Sony is their current consoles continue to sell good numbers. The way I see it is Sony are counting greatly on stealing customers off of MS to be considered successful, but I think in the west the Xbox brand is too strong, and too willing to out money-hat Sony at every turn with the casual core franchises. With the financial state of Sony on a knife-edge, they have the most to lose. It's do or die for'em - I expect some real dirty fighting.

liger05 Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Sony are even encouraging this. There are at least three big first party games still to come on the PS3. Yeah and that is the way to do it. Not everyone will buy a new platform on day 1 so to keep supporting those who do not is the correct thing to do and keeps those people onside before they move to the new platform. Not sure how much room Sony have to price cut the PS3 but can see MS really cutting the 360 price making it very appealing to people looking to buy a first console.
madeinbeats Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Sony are even encouraging this. There are at least three big first party games still to come on the PS3. Then there's rumours of a PS3 update just before E3 to add Gaikai .. .. If that's true it's a rather mixed message - or is it part of the business plan? 'PS4 offers the best experience, but there's no need to buy one just yet. You can still play new PS4 games on the PS3 via Gaikai'! Is that a good business plan? I mean, they will be losing a shit ton of money on each console sold anyway for the next few years and Gaikai will still bring them in the publisher/licence fees etc, in.

madeinbeats Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) I thought Gaikai was for the old library. You can stream anything on it as per the server-level hardware. Not sure what Sony's plans are for it. PS4 demos available straight after E3? If the "Play PS4 games via Gaikai on PS3 thing" is true, can you think of how amazing an incentive it would be for developers? Yeah, it could literary be the modern day trojan horse. They'd be testing waters with people's net conections though, but still, if consumers are pleased with the quality of the service: reliability, picture quality and price wise, it could provide a significant instant penetration boost for PS4 viability. Cube Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I thought Gaikai was for the old library. At the moment, it's just for PS4 games. PS3 games may be added at some point. That's why the option to buy the machine yourself would make for a great combination.
madeinbeats Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Remember I just said I expect lots of dirty tricks, lol, Sony has paid for #PS4 to trend on twitter today. As someone who doesn't plan on getting either console, I'm probably going to enjoy watching these pair kicking each other in the balls. I wonder how low they will go haha.

Serebii Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Surely paying for something to be promoted negates the whole idea of trends
madeinbeats Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) Microsoft have also paid for #XboxReveal to be promoted Absolutely no need for'em to do that, they'll be trending for free soon. Splashing dat cash. Surely paying for something to be promoted negates the whole idea of trends It does, just another commercial social media whore business now. Zechs Merquise Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Tonight will be really interesting. I think we can assume several things: 1) They will show the console (they mocked Sony for NOT showing their's, so it would seem odd for MS to then not) 2) They will show actual games and franchises that the mainstream care about. 3) There will be a strong partnerships with western developers 4) Kinect will feature 5) Halo will feature Bearing all those things in mind, I think they have a chance of making a huge impact - and not just on forums. By getting the attention of those who drive the huge software sales of games like COD and FIFA MS will be making a very bold move to capture the mass market early on. If on top of all that they get the price and advertising right, it could see Sony on the back foot for another generation.
Daft Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 You all act like marketing is some kind of honour bound discipline. It's a nasty goddamn free-for-all.
madeinbeats Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) I don't know how this thread has turned into the PS4 launch plan discussion, but out of interest, has there been any mention of PS4 slidepad controllers been compatible with the PS3, or visa versa? Are the both blutooth & USB? Posted today lol... Now, now children. Edited May 21, 2013 by madeinbeats

tapedeck Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Welcome to the world of capitalism and commercialisation. Wish I'd taken the blue pill as well... Anyway...get the FOX engine on Wii U Konami and PES should be sweet. About time it had a new engine. Strangely it seems to have coincided with them finally nailing PES again with 2013 and 2013.
