NINTENDO @ E3: Towards Hype and Hyperboles

Recommended Posts

I know but I like FreddieW's stuff :D

Yeah, he's brilliant.

One thing I'm hoping for is the line of improved VC games that Nintendo promised from the get-go.

The most obvious thing would obviously be to adapt the N64-games to 16:9 screens and boost the resolution. But swapped character/vehicle models would lift the games to a whole new level.

Oh, and not to be a bore, but this trailer was just shown:

And this footage is from an ancient PS3! Imagine what could be done on the shiny, modern Wii U!

*3D Mario will be “huge, bigger than any Mario game to date” and looks “unlike anything you’ve ever seen”

*Retro’s new game will be first person, futuristic, and something everyone wants them to do

Hey, so I've been theorising that Nintendo might offer some game video recording/sharing features on Wii U in the future, similar to what Sony are promising with the PS4. I mean, the video encoding/decoding hardware is already there in the Wii U and they already record live game video in the background to generate the Gamepad video stream (the console can also support 2 Gamepads, so recording both the TV and the Gamepad gameplay is no problem either)... Even live streaming gameplay as you play the game would be very possible with no hit to gameplay performance at all... Plus they have that currently unused SD card slot that does not format your card, making it perfectly suited for saving videos onto...)

And lo and behold, Nintendo have started doing Content ID matching on Youtube!

http://www.gamefront.com/nintendo-flexing-copyright-clout-on-youtube-lets-play-channels/

So I was wondering whether this move to grant Nintendo greater control of videos on Youtube is a sign that they might be looking to offer video sharing via Miiverse sooner rather than later (perhaps even as part of the mysterious summer update that we know next to nothing about!)

Or is it just Nintendo protecting their own interests and completely unrelated to Wii U?

I'm hoping that they do offer video sharing. It's one of the features i'm most excited about with the PS4. I would love to capture my gameplay moments, but I refuse to shell out for a decent laptop and capture material.

Earlier today, Nintendo apparently sent out a PM regarding what Wii U games they're going to show during E3. These apparently include entries from Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda and Super Smash Bros.

That's kinda weak, isn't it?

There will probably be more, but there's no question that NINTENDO will focus heavily on the good ol'-same ol' now that the chips are down.

Will that be enough? Will it still work? Will they reach the sales they are looking for?

Nobody knows, cuz....NINTENDO BITCHES!

I guess the exclusive Okami deal for the WiiU that was announced last week is a step in the right direction.

This with miiverse sharing could/would be awesome. I'm not sure how much I'd use it, but I can definitely see the appeal. I think I remember when I was younger running my N64 through the VCR to record gameplay, lol.

Did you expect something more from Nintendo? They're turning franchising into a whole franchise!

So the NA Direct has said that Nintendo are partnering with Best Buy to have playable demos of the e3 games they show in 100 stores. So potentially Mario Kart, Mario U, and SSB demos for people to read about or watch on ND, then go out and try themselves...What a brilliant move, in my opinion. Why stand on a stage and talk about the games when you can get them out into the hands of the people that matter, the punters like us! This is the sort of thing I hoped would happen when they said they weren't doing a presentation, something different and consumer orientated :)

Guys... What if Sonic Lost World is coming from Retro Studios or NST...

Naoto Ōshima (Sonic's original character designer/creator) does work for NST now...

Also there are some rumblings coming from Sumo that might be hinting at a Mario/Sonic Kart crossover...

https://twitter.com/S0LSUM0/status/327921575968010240

Mario & Sonic Kart as the upcoming "Mario Kart" title!? I'd be down for it. Sonic Racing Transformed was awesome - given a bit of Nintendo guidance, I reckon that Sumo could do great things with a Wii U exclusive Mario/Sonic Kart...

So long as we also get those demos on the eShop, I'm cool with this :)

Need to take it a step further to the global market - eShop demos. What's to stop it?

I'd be good with this. Transformed kicks ass and I've had a lot more fun with that then I did MK7.

Yeah agreed about eshop, nothing stopping it...my only concern is Nintendo said that e3 was basically for their American customers, if memory serves correct, when they announced eh wouldn't be holding an e3 press conference. So we may be forced to lust after these games from afar!

One thing I would expect as an absolute priority is for Nintendo to have a Wii U and 3DS Nintendo Direct channel/app ready for e3. That content should be available immediately to stream through your Nintendo device and pushed to those who don't have a dicky bird what e3 or even a Nintendo Direct is!

THIS! Why on earth SEGA insist on having their characters use normal vehicles instead of Flintstones style "cars" I have no idea :shakehead

It's the perfect solution and would look funny as hell

Interresting, yet somewhat underwhelming.

The fact that a bunch of stuff remains unknown, as well as the vagueness of everything makes me think this is fake.

A new zapper would be cool, but only if it'll be more than a plastic shell. The Wii Zapper was a disaster, as it felt cheap, the trigger was in the wrong place and there was no stock. Also, you had no easy access to the buttons on the top of the controller etc.

However, the idea of having the pad on top of this type of thing:

top-shot-elite-20100730044417548-000.jpg

The Wii U would instantly become the FPS console of choice :)

That's so short sighted, plus not good with the current Wii U situation. Yeah US is a big market, but THE REST OF THE WORLD is a little bit bigger really - feel like Nintendo don't really care about us sometimes.

A Nintendo direct app/channel is a genius idea too, can't even believe they don't have it. Archive of all directs, and maybe Iwata Asks, for people to watch/read at their leisure maybe? Or at least the last few directs or so.

The US is the biggest videogaming market, and a stable one at that. Europe is quite small, disorganized and disjointed by comparison (and going through a bigger crisis, no less). Japan is another important market for Nintendo, but there's no trouble there, I'd say. I'm not sure about how important the Australian market is, but considering their censorship laws and judging how often they get the shaft in release dates and pricing, I'd wager "not very".

Honestly, the only way the rest of the world could become a bigger market than the US is if relatively unexplored areas (like Brazil, Latin America, China, etc.) became viable markets.

I feel I went a bit off-topic with this, so I will say that global demos is definitely something they should strive for, even if I don't blame them for testing the waters first. And considering Nintendo is more open to criticism than ever (what with Miiverse) I'd say this is a good opportunity to let them know this is a good idea, encourage them to make it global.

I'm not denying it's very large, and a united one; but I base them not being the biggest market by americas sales divided by all sales not being much more than 50% if that. It's very close, but even at 50% or 60% there's still a very large remainder left of their world market. I've based this off hardware sales more than software too; so again I might not be correct;

"The Legend of Zelda: Return to the Past" sounds a vaguely plausible title actually, even though that 'report' is almost certainly BS.

Nintendo stuff never leaks (barring that one exception with DKCR being leaked a day before its E3 announcment and the Nikkei report on the 3DS, which had a bunch of fake info mixed in with the real) so this is all obviously fake.

If this was Microsoft or Sony however, then I'd probably say it's likely to be real. Microsoft in particular are leaker than a broken sieve

Oh and I hope that ALTTP 2 ends up getting called A Link to The Future. That would be a much better name than Return to The Past.
