Hero-of-Time
Nintendo is working on a number of original animated shorts based on the Pikmin franchise. Designed to be viewed on 3DS, the shorts will be released before the launch of Pikmin 3 and will either be given away or sold through the eShop. "We really just want to take advantage of the Pikmin characters," Shigeru Miyamoto, who's overseeing the creation of the cartoons, told Polygon. "We have started selling Shaun the Sheep videos, so we're continuing to look at ways to expand the eShop offerings. Nintendo 3DS is great for viewing 3D video content so we wanted to look at ways to expand that offering." The first short will show Captain Olimar eating what looks like a Pikmin, but turns out to be carrots. "When Olimar first discovered the Pikmin he named them based on the PikPik brand carrots in his home world, so he clearly loves carrots," Miyamoto said. "I thought it would be fun to have a scenario where it seems like he is going to eat the Pikmin. So it's kind of dark, but he doesn't eat them." Nintendo confirmed a Pikmin 3 delay last December. The highly anticipated strategy game had been due to launch during the first calendar quarter of 2013, but will now release in the April to June window. Not sure how to feel about this. On one hand I suppose it would be a great way to promote Pikmin 3. On the other hand I just wish they would stop faffing about and give us the game. Retro_Link
On 3DS?... this is a Wii U game Nintendo you fools!... just stick them on Youtube for free (and to share on social media)! You need to get the message out and promote the game as best as you can! WhatsWrongWithYou.

M_rock
Haha this kind of makes me hope again that a 3DS pikmin might ever be coming :p I wonder how the movies will be made! I'm pretty sure it will end up being 3D animation, but stop motion movies in the style of the artwork for Pikmin 2 would be so much better! I just hope they will put the videos on the Nintendo Video app for free first! It's not much of advertising when people have to pay to view it... You need to get the message out and promote the game as best as you can! WhatsWrongWithYou. Highly seconding this. It needs to be a.) free(as I don't think it'll 'sell' much) and b.) on wii u AND 3ds, or on a more open platform like Youtube as you say. Tbh Youtube is actually the best idea to allow for the social media aspect you mention, but this is the problem with Nintendo - they just seem to be a step or two out of touch with the current state of affairs. I can't understand why they make these such peculiar decisions.

Rummy
Shorts?! It's snowing outside for crying out loud! Oh bob, you're usually on such good form! Are there any details on how short the shorts will be and how many there will be? I'm curious to see what their approach will be.
