We've been expecting them to test this for a while after the success of Skylanders and the inclusion of NFC in the Wii U controller ever since it was confirmed in the Ubisoft leak.

I wonder if it's going to pay off though, Skylanders might have been a one off in the western market. The price point for the Pokemon figures though is very competitive, just under £1.50 each.

I think Skylanders probably was a one off as the price point for the figures seemed extortionate. I realise the games sold well, especially on the Wii, but I've seen the figures discounted in a number of places.

I think the price of the figures does need to be more competitive. If Nintendo maintained genuine 'pocket money' prices for the figures (£1.50 sounds perfect to me, I would even say £2.50 was good value) then it would be good value for money.

Skylanders packs were anywhere from £8 - £10 for individual characters and £16 to £20+ for the packs of three! I think that is definitely too much.

Multiply that by 649 and suddenly it's not so competitive ;)

I wonder if those Pokemon will still be catchable in the game itself...

They would be out of their fucking minds to try and do every Pokemon haha. I can see them doing 'series' sets and having players decide in polls which Pokemon they would like to see etc. It'd also be a way to see more promotions involving Pokemon with things that can't exactly give away Pokemon as mystery gifts, like magazines etc.

That being said though, the Skylanders figures are still expensive as hell if you're aiming to collect them all, even if you managed to get the rarer ones at the standard RRP.

Can I just remind you all that main series director, Junichi Masuda, is firmly against forcing kids to pay for extra stuff just to get more Pokémon in their games. As such, we'll not see paid DLC for main games, nor will we see figures for main games

I haven't seen any one imply this here haha. That and I really can't see NFC technology being used in this form for handheld consoles, which would pretty much rule out any utilisation of this in main series games.

Just needed to make it clear since I've been seeing it on Kotaku and Eurogamer

i wish they would have paid for DLC, for special pokemon and ticket items to access them, i've missed too many pokemon in the past due to silly event items which are time/location limited

Its better now but you can still miss things, to just have a store that they become available on permanently would be awesome.

but the current wifi events work well enough, its the previous gens when it was a real problem

And put them in bags like the Moshi Monsters figures so it's hard to tell which one you'll get.

Yeah, I'm 95% sure that's what they're doing anyway

- first line of figurines includes Bulbasaur, Pikachu, Torchic, Piplup, Lucario and Victini

- Pokemon Centers will sell download codes for the game

- attack via the GamePad's touch screen

- various items that you can find within the game

- items will do things such as make you big or heal

- some levels have gimmicks that you can control

- others that will damage you

- each area has a boss at the end and has multiple levels

- timed battles also appear

- use the figures in the game and raise them using coins obtained within the game

- figures will be used in other games at a later date

Interesting...

That was a misinterpretation by me. My translator said "The figures can be used in other games". He meant other people's Rumble U games. Surprised that got picked up on, it was up for less than a minute

Any word on whether or not you can still catch all the Pokemon ingame without having to buy their respective toy?

Of course you can :)

Has that been confirmed, or is just what you're assuming here?

I'd imagine that you still can catch em all without having to buy any toys (except for maybe a few special ones that they might hold back for events/later on), but still, you never know...

Cheers! : peace:

I have no issues with the NFC usage then in this case (Given Iwata/Nintendo's stance on F2P crap, I have full faith in that they wont infuse the game with F2P style tactics :) )

Hope the toys do end up getting used in other games. That would be cool!

Nuuuu, how did I not realise these were going to be in capsule machines! Fuckkk, ah well, I'll give up 1000 yen on the first day and see what I get.

To make things worse, there's a special bonus figure. 1800Yen gets you the game and this figure. Punchy Pikachu
