Great news, too :)

The Wii U has had a turnaround. We have no idea how long it'll last, but it's a turnaround :)

It's great to see some positive press for Nintendo for once

What turnaround?

MK7 3DS bundle

Fair enough, but that bundle has come and gone many times in the past and I don't remember seeing bumps like that.

Sorry, I wasn’t saying it’s a bad thing. Its good to see and shows the Hardware is shifting units.

Great job for the Last of US, deserves the success it's getting! That said apparently it claimed the number one spot with less than 10K sales? If so that explains why Nintendo Land made it into the charts (assuming that the NL figures come from the premium bundles). Really does highlight how poor the Wii U is selling here but then again when the whether is as good as its been here why would you buy a new console?

It also highlights how bad the UK games market is and how easy it is to get into the charts. It will be interesting to see if Pikmin 3 can claim the top spot when all you need is a 10k in sales.

I think it says much more about retail sales than it does for the games market. I buy most my games digitally.

I'm the complete opposite. I still haven't embraced the digital age. :D

They have really been pushing MK7 in the latest 3DS bundle commercial.

Nintendo Co. (7974) rose to its highest level in almost two years in Tokyo trading on speculation new video game titles are boosting overseas revenue and the shares may join the Nikkei 225 Stock Average.

The world’s largest video-game console maker jumped 4 percent to 14,050 yen, the highest close since July 2011.

I'm with you man, I struggle to own any game that's more than £20 without something physical to show for it!

PS3 launched at 59,800 yen

Wii U launched at 31,500 yen

So it took Nintendo the same amount of time to sell 1 million Wii U machines at half the price of what a PS3 was. Well done!

To be fair Nintendo would get more profit off each machine sold than what Sony was getting for the PS3 at the time.

Different economies now and then too. Now, there's far more competition in the gaming front in regards to smartphones/tablets which have damaged the perception of value for games.

I know we dismiss it as "lol just analysts being twats", but it is actually a valid statement

I posted those numbers expecting that reply. * reels in Serebii.* :D

It also goes to show that journalists can spin a story any way they want.

This is why you can't truly compare the two unless they launched at near enough the same time. The real headline here is that the Wii U surpassed 1 million sales in Japan, the fact that it has done so in around the same time as the PS3 is irrelevant.

Some of the responses I've read on the net are hilarious though. With people essentially starting fanboy wars over the story.

So is Wii U still doomed??

The Wii U could be selling one million units each day, offering free puppies or kittens with every purchase, and have Iwata coming and giving you £50 as a thank you and people would still say Nintendo and the Wii U were doomed
