Wii U doing well reletively speaking, while 3DS is well into its twilight period now.

And people still think that the NX console is coming first :laughing: The 3DS is the one due to be replaced first and the sales here prove it. It's 5 years old now and it's just a natural state of decline.

I think the biggest surprise out of all of this is just how much the US really came through for Yoshi's Wooly World. After a tepid launch in Japan and Europe, it's really shocking how well it did in the US!

NOA really did make the right call with that delay.

Nintendo have updated their hardware and software sales figures.

Software

Hardware

Cracking software sales, but shoddy hardware numbers.

This is why a nx handheld has to be released this year. The handheld has to come first and ASAP. 3DS is five years old soon and it's a very dated piece of technology.

I think Nintendo's hardware figures give all the more reason to produce a hybrid console... use the draw of their handhelds to give their home console business a much needed push!

lostmario actually joked about that while we were discussing amiibo a while back. He said the NX would be powered by amiibo. :D

ah yes, the Amiibox.

Place 10 figures on the console to power it up, genius!

This weeks numbers from Japan are in and DQ has done the business on Sony platforms, as expected.

We've always known that Dragon Quest Builders would be a huge deal in its native Japan. Anything to do with Square Enix's now legendary role-playing series tends to sell ridiculously well in the Land of the Rising Sun, and this latest spin-off is no different. The Vita version of the title topped the software charts, selling through 178,016 copies, while the PlayStation 4 edition came in second, selling 141,369 copies. Taking into account the PlayStation 3 version, which entered in fourth with 53,154 units, Builders has opened with total sales of 372,539 copies. Yowza.

Of course, the title's huge success appears to have had a direct impact on hardware sales, too. Vita climbed into first place, selling 45,144 units, while PS4 crept up in second, with numbers jumping to 32,557. Not a massive boost for either console, but it'll be interesting to see if these increased sales can be sustained over the course of the next couple of months, with several new releases due out in that time.

That's a hell of a boost for the Vita. I also see the holiday/honeymoon period is over for the Wii U.

Great start for Digimon and Naruto.

Gravity Rush bombed hard, just like Tearaway. :(

Might be a slow burner. I must admit I don't know much about it myself though the brief bits I've seen have been attractive - just not sure I'd get it without further research. I look at some of those top 10s/20s and wonder if I'm falling out of gaming - very little actually feels like stuff I want to buy. There also seems such a wealth of content on PS4 right now that I end up stuck and not buying anything! Really need to start attacking my backlog maybe!

Sad to see the state of affairs for Wii U, and slightly intrigued by that rogue Terraria 360 at number 38 in the all formats - just curious as to where it came from!

I played it on the Vita and it was a fantastic game. I honestly thought it would have fared much better, especially as the game is just £20.

I don't see NX handheld coming out first at all. 3DS may be barely selling but there's still a 55+ million install base out there, I can't see Nintendo abandoning that so quickly.

PS4 remaining steady in Japan.

  1. PlayStation 4 – 31,158 (32,557)
  2. PlayStation Vita – 23,090 (45,114)
  3. New 3DS LL – 19,991 (22,593)
  4. New 3DS – 4,389 (4,978)
  5. Wii U – 3,939 (8,931)
  6. 3DS – 2,705 (3,298)
  7. PlayStation 3 – 1,715 (1,993)
  8. 3DS LL – 459 (558)
  9. Xbox One – 286 (92)

The Wii U is so low due to stock shortages. What a crazy situation to be in. The console struggles to sell 10k a week and yet there are stock issues. ::shrug:

Surely the production and supply of them was reduced to a minimum so that the aged stock was cleared..?

Is there really a shortage? Granted I'm in Tokyo where I imagine most of the stock would be but they're available everywhere here.

The NPD report came out last week but the numbers were sketchy. Gaf have pieced together all the info from the sources and came up with this.

3DS = 120K

PS4 = 230K

Wii U = 40K

XB1 = 170K

I'm still in the mindset that either the NX is a hybrid or, if it is a separate device, the console is coming first. Just look at those Wii U numbers! Nintendo need to get something relevant into the home console space very soon.

Reading on Gaf that Street Fighter V seems to be a bit of a bomb for Capcom/Sony. Low sales on the PS4 version and low sales on the PC. I wonder if this has anything to do with the server issues, bad word of mouth and lack of content? It will be interesting to see if sales of this pick up once more modes get released.

I'd have bought it if the servers weren't so broken!

I'm not all too fussed on single player content as the simple one vs one multiplayer is all I'm interested in with this.

Great start for Fire Emblem in the US.

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With more than 300,000 units sold between all versions of the Fire Emblem Fates game during its launch weekend, the Nintendo 3DS strategy RPG earns a place in the record books as the fastest-selling game in the history of the long-running, critically acclaimed franchise in the United States. The game sold more than five times as many units as 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening, the previous record holder in the United States, during its first three days of availability.

Fantastic start! Great news! :D

Now we just have to hope that NOE aren't stupid enough to try releasing it in August over here...
