Wii U sales up by 25% isn't bad for now but...

 

with pretty much NO releases until Mario Kart and the PS4 and XBone getting more traction, it's probably in a worse position than last year. Maybe they should just call it quits and bury all the remaining Wii U's next to that E.T. game.

It does at least prove that software can have a big effect though (as opposed to people disliking the Wii U so much they wouldn't buy it under any circumstances). Mario Kart 8 will probably give it a bigger boost, although I still think their biggest problem is price.

If there was a 25% increase and then there was new software coming to sustain some momentum it would look different but 25% increase and then the next game not arriving until the end of May means sales will likely slide back to where they were before DK was released.

Exactly, all Iwata was banging on about last year was momentum and how they lost it and will make sure they have a steady flow of games this year to maintain momentum.. and do they? No. Like you said, if they had more games coming out, perhaps they could continue these positive sales over a long period of time but sadly it will just dip right back down.

 

And the Wii U's price has been so all over the place I'm not even sure how much it's meant to be any more. What is the official RRP?

Titanfall is comfortably this week’s UK No.1, and boost Xbox One hardware sales by almost 100 per cent.

 

70 per cent of all Xbox One consoles sold last week came bundled with Titanfall, Chart-Track says.

 

Titanfall is EA’s first No.1 that isn’t a FIFA game for over a year. The last non-FIFA EA game to top the charts was Crysis 3 back in the first week of March last year.

 

It means the team at Bandai Namco had to settle for No.2 with its cult RPG Dark Souls II, which saw a launch sales improvement of 20 per cent over the original.

Titanfall should sell bucketloads on the 360 when its released.

96% increase WoW doesn't seem all that much when you consider that its release was also coupled with the console pricedrop (which also came with Titanfall bundled in as well)...

 

That comment made a couple of days ago about there being "hundreds of thousands of players" playing the game ever since its US release also seems to indicate that it's between 200k-350k worldwide currently (any higher and they would've been shouting over the rooftops about selling "almost half a million since launch")

 

I wonder if that's good enough considering how much MS have riding off of this game...

Dark Souls 2 was only 20% up on DS1. I think thats disappointing.

 

Is it? 20% up on a 'more of the same' kind of game on dying formats seems pretty good to me. They've already had Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 to find additional fans. Once you reach your audience limit you can't go much higher!

 

Plus some people are also pussies and will never try this game.

The marketing budget was much bigger for DS2 than for the first DS game though... So I wouldn't imagine that Namco would be happy with a "mere" 20% improvement in this case...

This is a bit of a circle jerk. Titanfall is a new IP, limited to the lesser of two consoles (the more expensive one, too) and it doesn't include digital sales. It's done pretty well and will probably have a tail on it with the 360 release in a couple weeks and while Microsoft push it aggressively.

@Dcubed But how many more people can you attract with this sort of game and on a last gen format? It is marketed quite rightly as 'you will die lots in this hard game', so is probably seen as offputting to your casual gamer. And a lot of the core probably already bought Dark Souls 1 on account of how critically acclaimed it was. I think going up 20% is pretty good for this kind of game.

I think that it's impressive in of itself too, but I don't think Namco would agree, considering the hopes they pinned on this title...

 

"The good thing this time round is we're investing more in it from a marketing perspective," Kirton told OXM at a preview event in London today. "With Dark Souls and [PS3-exclusive spiritual predecessor] Demon Souls it was very focused, small-scale. We're treating this as a massive, massive triple-A title."

 

"We're going to go balls-deep and guns-blazing with it, and hope to God that it works," he continued. "We're going after people who love and adore Dark Souls, while hopefully widening the net a little. I'm not saying that every Skyrim player's going to be jumping on Dark Souls, but it would be nice if some of them did. It's a different game, sure."

 

I hope it's good enough for them, but I get the feeling that they set their expectations much higher than just a 20% increase...

inFamous Second Son Leading Titanfall In Social Metrics

 

 

 

I'm really suprised by the number of actionables in relation to Infamous. I hope it lives up to it.

 

I don't know a lot about Titanfall, and really I don't know a lot about inFamous - I actually noticed an advert for the latter on the TV today or yesterday though - which I normally don't. This all doesn't really mean anything, but whatever they're doing they've done better to get on my radar with a TV ad like that than anyone else.

i don't get these figures. PS4 is the best selling console, but only two PS4 games in the charts and both only total 13k sales compared to 30k hardware sales. That less than 1 game per console sold, what the hell are the Japanese playing? What's the average ratio of software to hardware sales?

Technically the 3DS is. They separated 3DS & 3DS XL sales.
