General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

Recommended Posts

Some UK Wii U sales numbers, as well as all the other consoles, have arrived via Gaf.

I would go more in depth but I'm posting from my phone.

http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=526191

The Wii U was really struggling in Feb. Of course the lack of any compelling software doesnt help things. This months titles ( Lego, Monster Hunter, Need for Speed ) surely have to cause a slight increase. Right?

Seeing those numbers kinda surprised me. I was expecting there to be a more notable drop off year on year for 360/PS3 sales given everything we hear but they haven't really dropped much at all - it's barely 5% if it has dropped at all. The PC tail off can easily be attributed to online sales and certainly isn't a cause for concern.

I guess it was to be expected but the drop off for Wii and DS is clearly throwing the overall picture out of whack when discussing year on year growth/recession as the other established platforms remain steady.

Here's an article over at Gamasutra as they look at those current year numbers in respect of the Wii U.

Is the 360 seriously selling that much each month in Britain? That's crazy if true.

The DS and Wii are still selling better than the 3DS and Wii U. That's slightly worrying, surely everyone has one by now?

Seems like the UK market really has turned away from Nintendo at the moment, they need a big hit to capture the imagination of the mass market.

I would say that Nintendo should have scrapped the DS and Wii at launch, but then I don't think that'd have changed much and would kill much of their income

The thing is its free money for nintendo isnt it. I dont think they need to kill them off but they just need to make sure they dont push them anymore.

I am not sure if its still current but when I checked the nintendo site a few weeks back they had a comparison page showing the two wii u packages but on the same comparison page they had the Wii as well which to me just made no sense.

As for the UK market's attitude towards nintendo. On the home console front the wii was an exception. The UK market has never relly been very good for nintendo consoles and we could just basically be seeing a repeat of that.

Animal Crossing just will not stop selling. Incredible!!!

Wii U sales depressing but predictable. When are they going to announce confirmed dates for Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, and Wonderful 101?

So none of the new three Vita games managed to get into the top 30? Ouch, that's disappointing, but ports cant be expected to do well all of the time.

EDIT: Fucking hell at those UK numbers, only just noticed! Nintendo is getting absolutely smashed to pieces in the UK. The Wii U had very little games over the period so it's understandable, but how on earth is the 3DS selling worse than the DS? NoE need to make a move and fast.

From MVC...

"We'll be speaking to our retailers directly over the next few weeks to take them through our plans for building Wii U momentum over the course of 2013," a Nintendo spokesperson told MCV in response.

"We have a strong and broad line-up of software launching this year and we look forward to updating - and exciting - our partners over the coming weeks."

Wait a sec, I just looked at those UK console sales figures again. 800k Xboxes in a month. They're much higher than the USA, a country 5 times the size of ours. Surely that can't be right? That equates to one console for every 75 people in the UK. Surely a console that's been out 7 years can't be selling that many?

They're software sales :)

That makes sense then. It's understandable that Wii software is selling more than Wii U software., but the situation still isn't great!

That's a huge shame. NFS is incredible, be gutting not to see the sequel.

I'm surprised God of War didn't drop more. Then again, I don't think it takes much to reach fifth on the charts. The multiplayer is surprisingly a lot of fun...played it for three hours last night. It's ridiculous how few maps there are, though.

According to GAF, MH3U's combined numbers are about the same as Tri's debut on Wii.

I'm surprised that the Wii U version came so close to the 3DS version in terms of sales, though considering that there are supposedly heavy shortages of the 3DS version (with Shopto making some cockups with my friend's 3DS version as a result, giving him a Wii U version instead!) I shouldn't be really...

Gears opened with 4 x less sales than GOW3. GOW: Judgement and GOW: Ascension are titles that never needed to be released.

Not surprised NFS didn’t chart. Improvements or not it’s still an old game and its expensive.

Hopefully MH will have some legs. Luigi’s should do pretty well and I will be shocked if Lego doesnt do good. If there is one game that will benefit from the drought its that.

GOW: Judgement and GOW: Ascension are titles that never needed to be released.

Agreed. Both games feel unnecessary and the public seem to agree (then again, they also seem to like games that are functionally broken like SimCity so go figure :blank: )

Hopefully a new shipment of the 3DS version will get released quick! Nintendo and Capcom really dropped the ball there!

Edit: Oh wow! Amazon aren't getting any new stock until April 8th!? WHAT A FUCK UP :shakehead

Looking at the Recent Sellers chart in the UK eShop, MH3U is currently number 2 (GEE, I WONDER WHY!?). Will be interesting to see if NOE give out eShop numbers to brag, like what NOA did with FEA (which they also under shipped...)

Look on the bright side of the stock problems for the 3DS version of Monster Hunter: It sold more than they thought they would sell, which makes 4 being localised a heck of a lot more likely.

True, but they have GROSELLY underestimated demand for the 3DS version. It sold out before they even finished fulfilling pre-orders! (My friend tried to buy the 3DS version on Shopto on Wednesday and got sent a Wii U one instead - good thing he has both consoles!)

How could they have thought that the 3DS version could only have done slightly more than the Wii U version!? - the userbase size difference is massive!

Of course... They want to force people to buy from the eShop, where they get a higher sales margin, obviously...

Or it shows how big a launch it is for a console that has a low install base.

Mr. Glass is half empty

Well not really. 12th on the UK chart right now wouldnt translate to a huge launch. It looks the 3DS + Wii u version totalled 17k sales. If the Wii U version accounted for more than 50% of wii u software sales then it really doesnt take a genius to see everything else is selling very very poorly.
