General Gaming Sales/Charts Discussion

Not surprising, if true. Launching a new console is always a money sink, even more so when it's not performing well.

That plus they made losses in Q1 & Q2 2012, with them only returning to profit in Q3 (when the 3DS finally stopped being sold at a loss).

Not surprising that they made a loss for the whole year. A substantially smaller loss than last year, but still a loss. With the 3DS lineup exploding, the yen weakening, the Wii U finally getting some games and them now making profit on each 3DS console (and possibly also Wii U by Q2=Q3 of this year), they'll be back in profit from here on for sure though.

The positive if true is its much less than last years annual loss.

Contrary to what many believe across the internet, turnarounds do not happen overnight. They're a gradual thing as production prices come down, releases are done and so forth.

This shows that they ARE turning it around.

Plus, not long after the launch of the PS3, Sony's games division was losing this every month and a half. It goes to show

I'm more interested in the Wii U numbers. How much they have shipped Q2 and what they expect to ship for the rest of the year.

I just hope the pull back on their estimates a bit to be a bit more realistic.

Nice to see that they made an overall Net Income (even if it was only thanks to the depreciation of the yen and then only by the skin of their teeth) but good lord are those Wii U sales abysmal!

That forecast of 9 million for Wii U this year seems overly aggressive. Unless they're being truthful when they say that the lineup for Q3-Q4 is the most amazing thing since sliced bread, I can't see it coming even remotely close... (18 million seems attainable for 3DS though mind you)

Super Mario 3D Land is still doing amazingly well, 8.27 million is crazy! Can't believe that it's still out selling Mario Kart 7! (which is sitting at 8.08 million)

The real surprise winner here though is Nintendogs & Cats. It might not be reaching the heights of the original game, but 2.7 million is nothing to sneeze at! (It'll probably break 3 million after all is said and done)

The attachment rate for the 3DS needs to improve and somehow they need to get HW sales increased in the West.

Killing of the DS will help.

The Wii U sales are horrific but thats what you get when you launch a console and then release no games.

Sony doubles annual profit forecast

Sony has upwardly revised its financial year results forecast due to the sale of a number of assets and the favourable impact of the depreciation of the yen in the fourth quarter.

For the year ended March 31, 2013, the company has doubled its profit forecast from 20 billion yen ($201m / £130) to 40 billion yen ($403m / £261m).

The firm's operating income forecast has also been raised by 76.9 per cent to 230 billion yen, while sales are also expected to total 6,800 billion yen, three per cent higher than previously expected.

Thought I'd post this rarest of stories, Sony revising profits upward.

Shocker. Only had to sell a skyscraper to happen.

Plus the fact that it was a poor port, with no DLC and compressed to hell videos

Fighting games live and die by their communities - it's not a solo experience where it ultimately doesn't matter what machine you're running on. It's about playing together with people and since getting people together in the same room requires a lot of planning, it ultimately comes down to the online. And the vast majority of the fighting community will have an Xbox and/or PS3 with a long list of known contacts they can face against as well as the wider audience of gamers out there. It's been built up by Street Fighter 4, MvC3, Mortal Kombat 9, Virtua Fighter 5, Tekken 6, etc and the idea that they would all rush out and buy a new console for a game they could get on their existing machines for which they have expensive controllers already is preposterous as sales of TTT2 demonstrated.

All credit to Netherealm and WB for even bothering with the Wii U version in the first place. No links to the iOS game won't bother anyone and compressed videos are hardly an issue even if the single player mode does feature a greater emphasis on story, like MK9 - some reports have the Wii U version featuring the quickest load times. The Wii U version could have been the best by some note but it wouldn't have made a difference - just like it being a slightly weaker version won't have made a difference either.

Poor sales are nothing to do with it's quality as a piece of software and far more to do with it's target platform. The community will likely stay where they are until a massive hitter lands on the next wave of machines and the only one with enough clout to shift them will likely be a new Street Fighter. Fighting games are starting to lose their new found popularity again and that's the series that I feel has the widest appeal to reach outside the hardcore fighting game crowd to bring new people in. At which point they will move on mass assuming they don't end up going the PC route.

Nintendo and fighting games haven't really gone together since the SNES.

They wouldn't show it separately for the Wii U, it'd be included with the other versions in the sales chart Demo posted.

It placed number 5 on the Wii U individual chart and that's not exactly a tough one to get to the top of. Sonic was top, likely due to discounted sales, then Lego City, NSMBU, NintendoLand and Injustice in fifth and yet LCU doesn't make it into the top 40 so the contribution of the Wii U version of Injustice would be negligible.

The main negative point seems to be the lack of ability to play with friends online.

Eh, there's so much single player content in Injustice it's bordering on ridiculous but I'm not really bothered about online fighters. I don't plan to play it online on my PS3. I have played it locally and it's a crap load of fun.

Nice to see Vita sales have kind of stabilized. Can't really think of any games coming out that will appeal to Japan, though.

Sony better have stuff to show at E3 or they can go suck a fuck. Last year, the Vita no-show (apart from an actually alright showreel they didn't release until after their conference, but most people missed) was ridiculous.
