Good port, but it's an old game so it should run perfectly on a slightly better console. Nothing that impresses me :p

Yeah you're right that it SHOULD run better, but there have been a lot of half arsed and lazy ports done for the Wii U so far and this game in particular would be problematic because it was designed as a 360 exclusive would be (taking advantage of all of the unique hardware quirks of that console - which is why it ran so badly on PS3) - not to mention that it's being given away as a freebie, so there's less incentive to really out effort into this port...

So it's nice to have some confirmation that it's a good port :) Games like this can be really difficult to port over well - it's like how Zone of the Enders 2 HD was done really badly, because it was completely designed around all of the unique quirks of the PS2 and these couldn't be properly replicated on the PS360 (particularily it took advantage of the PS2's massive memory bandwidth, and this translated poorly to the PS360) - so badly was it ported that they actually got Hexadrive to make a complete re-do of the PS3 version.

So Digital Foundry did their Bayo 1 face off...

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-bayonetta-wii-u-face-off

And it's good news as expected :) Slightly better performance than the 360 version, faster loading times (with or without a full HDD installation on 360) and with some minor visual tweaks like higher res shadows - but most importantly, no bloody screen tearing! (not unexpected, given that Nintendo mandate VSync on all Wii U games, but still hugely appreciated because the original game used to tear like crazy, even on 360 - ugh! easily the ugliest and most nausea inducing visual artefact you can have in a game :shakehead)

Not bad for a freebie bonus! (And then there are the extra costumes, Off TV play, Miiverse stamps & support and touch controls added for good measure too!) Platinum Games once again earn their name  (and well done to Beeline studios for a great port as well! : peace: )

Can't wait to plough through Bayo 1 again! :D

Call me crazy, but I actually think that in some of the screenshots on there, the PS3 version looks the best! :o

For example, this one here:

Mp0F79B.jpg

Major jaggies on both Wii U and 360, but the blurriness of the PS3 version masks it slightly. :o

And then there's the actual motion blur:

KJqafeC.jpg

JalQuZT.jpg

I swear it looks far more natural on PS3. :o

The effect used in the other versions reminds me of this:

Gives me a nice excuse to post that awesome song/vid. :awesome:

But yeah, frame rate and screen tearing are obviously much improved on 360 and even more so on Wii U (no tearing at all is fantastic icon14.gif) but does anyone else agree with me on the images above, or am I losing my marbles? :heh:

It's just because the PS3 screens are really blurry, so the jaggies get hidden :heh:

Anyway, if it's like most other Wii U games, it'll end up looking much better on your TV than it does in stills. I'm not sure what it is about Wii U games (especially Nintendo's own ones), but even 720p games look MUCH sharper, clearer and jaggy free than 720p PS360 games do on my TV, despite how they might look in screenshots :) (seriously, if you told me that the likes of Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World were running in 1080p, I'd believe you! There's nary a jaggy to be seen!)

And yes, that song is awesome ;)

Digital Foundry missed the change to Jeanne's chest.

So now we know why it's 16+ on Wii U instead of the 18+ for the original PS360 version. ;)

But he's talking about the original Bayonetta, which was a 15 on PS360, and is PEGI 18 on Wii U. :heh:

It's Bayonetta 2 that's rated 16+. ;)

I need to go check but if I remember right the PS3 version was passed onto another dev which is one of the reasons why it looked a lot worse than the 360 game. Nice to see the effort was put into the Wii U port though. Bayonetta was a game that always interested me but I never made it past the first few levels when I owned it, wasnt a massive fan of the gameplay. Probably one of those games I'd be happier just watching someone else play. Shame though as it would have been nice to have a new Wii U game to play. No idea when the next one is coming that I want.

You know I had originally put that after the joke that I realise this because I said I bet somebody will mention this but then it's not funny if you have to explain yourself so I removed it.

To me, the PS3 looks like someone slapped on a generic blur filter on the whole screen to hide EVERYTHING.

Yeah, seen that a week ago. It looks brilliant! It all just keeps adding to an amazing package.

I know, I'm talking about the other Easter Egg. Someone posted it a few days ago :) I figured it was coming as the first game features a Space Harrier level :)

You know Starfox for the Wii U doesn't or didn't have a developer at E3. Platinum may have put their hat in the ring with that.

Kamiya again comments on Bayonetta 2’s initially troubled fate and how Nintendo saved the game

Last week on Twitter, Platinum Games’ Hideki Kamiya commented further on the development of Bayonetta 2. As has been said before, the game was in a very troubled state before Nintendo stepped in.

Kamiya noted in his tweets that Bayonetta 2’s problems came about when it was initially with SEGA. Something happened when the project was in the works there, and development halted. The game was pitched to various publishers, though it seems that most declined picking up Bayonetta 2. However, Nintendo agreed to step in and development was only then able to proceed.

Head past the break for a full translation of Kamiya’s tweets. They’re quite interesting, even if some of the tidbits had been shared previously!

"I think I have discussed this many times before but here goes… First of all, we [Platinum Games] are developers and receive support from publishers by making games that they request or suggest.

As for Bayonetta, we developed the game after signing a deal with SEGA. Later it was decided to also develop the sequel, so we started working on Bayonetta 2.

When development had progressed to a certain degree, in SEGA’s situation it turned into “This isn’t a good plan”, so development halted temporarily.

Without funding we didn’t have the possibility to continue development, but we wanted to get this partially developed Bayonetta 2 available to the public one way or another. So we offered it to various publishers, but as it is a big title, we couldn’t find a partner company. Finally, Bayonetta 2 was about to get terminated completely, when…

Nintendo came in and lent a hand and we were able to restart the development we so desired. Finally the game was released last week, so in five years, we were able to make Bayonetta 2 available to the public.

Knowing those circumstances, if someone is still angry for heading towards Nintendo, I wonder what’s the reason for that, wouldn’t you tell me in a way that is easy to understand?

As I have said earlier, if you want Bayonetta 2 on PS4 or Xbox One, how about trying to ask Nintendo… If Nintendo doesn’t say yes, it’s not going to happen… While you’re at it, try asking for Mario and Zelda too…"

If you’re wondering what those last few tweets are about, Kamiya was likely being pestered again by certain gamers requesting Bayonetta 2 on other platforms. Given how Nintendo aided in its development and ended up publishing the title, that’s not too likely to happen.

So...

If there's a special Starfox segment when you do that stage in the Starfox costume, will there be a Metroid thing if in the Metroid suit, or a Mario thing if in the Peach/Daisy one?

Nintendo: Bayonetta's New Home

That's a nice video, filled with warm fuzzy feelings :)

I do really hope that they're gonna carry on working together on future projects. Nintendo and Platinum really are a match made in heaven (and hell too in this case ;) )
