Hello,

So the Premier League (that's football by the way) is 20 seasons old. And to celebrate they are having a vote to give out some awards. I follow the old BBC live text thing every day, and they have a bit of a discussion about it, so i thought i would bring the discussion here, and see what people here thought about who should win.

There are 10 categories, but i might only post a few of them here (for instance I won't bother with best team, since most people will probably either say the one they support).

So who do people think should win? You can vote on the link above if you want to, and i think there are links to watch most of the matches, goals, saves and celebrations on the BBC website. Feel free to mention ones that aren't nominated by the way...

Well, like i said, you can suggest your own favourite game if you want. These are just the ones that are up for the awards.

Generally speaking though, most people agree that the best matches are the ones with the most goals, providing it's not too one-sided. Especially if you are a neutral.

I'll post my choices later.

What's this all about.. Harry Redknapp? Seriously?.. Fergie wins it hands down, that's the most ridiculous shortlist I've seen.

Yeah, there shouldn't be anyone on the list other than Fergie.

And without a doubt:

DENNIS BERGKAMP

Newcastle United 0-2 ARSENAL

2nd March, 2002

(I may not have seen half of the others but that goal was sensational, remember watching it on MOTD/The Premiership so clearly)

Why is the best match category full of high scoring games? I've seen 0-0 draws or tight 1-0 wins that have been far better than fucking up a 4-0 lead at Newcastle.

You know I don't think that one is really there to appeal to the Arsenal fans :heh: I actually would vote for that as best match, it was the best comeback at least and everyone loves comebacks. No?

Besides, Arsenal automatically get best goal (Bergkamp) and hey, it was against Newcastle. So there we are.

Or he would if I wasn't bias, so Shearer gets best goal.

And best player.

And best celebration.

And best save.

Did I mention Alan Shearer?

SHEARER

Right, here's my choices.

Best Goal

Bergkamp - I could watch this goal over and over again forever. Incredible. Although i think some of the others might be better (Henry's or Cantona's) i still love this goal the most.

Best Match

Not really sure about this one, but probably the Newcastle comeback against Arsenal.

Best Player

I suppose this will probably go to either Giggs or Scholes, and either of them probably deserve it, but i'm going for Henry because he's brill.

Best Save

Since i can't vote for the actual best save ever (

, since this was in the FA Cup) I think i'll probably go for one of Schmeichel's. The first one.

Best Manager

Siralex definately. Although i think he should retire now and let someone else have a go.

Best Celebration

Lomana Lua Lua - Sometimes if i'd seen that he'd scored, i'd tune in to Match of the Day just to watch him celebrate.

How the hell does Shearer get best celebration?! His were always so lame...I guess good in an iconic way though...

Despite being a Portsmouth fan I wouldn't say our 7-4 win was the best on the list just in terms of drama. I've got it on DVD though :D

I wouldn't say Lua Lua's celebrations are the best injured himself twice (once he was out for quite a few weeks) doing it and had to be substituted lol. Used to do a lot of pompey's fans heads in.

So you say that Shearer shouldn't win as his is too lame, but Lua Lua shouldn't because it's too far the other way?

That Beckham goal really pisses me off.

How is it any different than this goal scored at the weekend, and many others scored just like it in the past 20 years? But just because it's Beckham, they all gush over it.

How it is on the shortlist is beyond me.

Well yeah actually...There's no flaw to the logic..I mean Shearer's is lame, with Lua Lua at no point should he be doing a celebration that means might end up injured and miss matches like he did. I remember he did it once and missed 3 games all in. He was even told by medical staff not to it due to frequency of niggles he picked up as a result.
