I think I'm going to have to put you on my hide list for that comment. :p

The final season of the Sopranos was perfect. Superb writing, acting, casting and a fantastic ending. Everything in it adds up.

I would say The Sopranos is the finest programme I've ever seen and probably will see. I recently watched Breaking Bad and thought it was fantastic but there was some lazy writing in parts and the fact that there's going to be another season too. There's no need for it.

I'm watching The Wire at the moment and loving it so far; just about to start Season 3. Stringer Bell is quality.

As for comedy/drama, only thing that anyone can mention in that category is Entourage. Hands down the best comedy/drama series.

Sopranos is perfect in the first 4 seasons. The 5th is great, the 6th is good but terribly written, the whole thing is basically a giant Deus Ex Machina, why on earth did they ever decide it was a good ide to make tony go batshit crazy and start killing everyone all of a sudden? It has no place in a show as good as the sops and the whole is thing is just decremental to a point where it almost ruined what was otherwise a brilliant show... It's like something out of a steampunk novel, it has no place in the sops's mythos.

The finale, however, was amazing, chase nailed that one! Amazing throwbacks and perfect narrative.

But great writing on the rest of the 6th season? That's not even up for debate... It was like watching west wing collapse post-sorkin...

What is Diaspora?

After four long years in the making we are proud to release Diaspora: Shattered Armistice. Diaspora is an episodic-release single and multiplayer space fighter combat game set in the reimagined Battlestar Galactica universe. Diaspora is a standalone freeware game based on the FreeSpace Open Engine, everything needed to play is in the download. The project is not-for-profit and not associated with NBC Universal or Bigpoint's Battlestar Galactica Online.

Our team opted for episodic releases, each involving short plots surrounding different Colonial or Cylon ships and characters. The first Release, Shattered Armistice, tells the story of the Battlestar Theseus and her crew during the attack on the colonies. Many ships seen in the show are part of the first release but some such as the Viper MK2 and the Battlestar Galactica are going to be seen in later releases where they are part of the main story.

Shattered Armistice has a fully-voice acted 8 mission campaign with an original score and cinematics. Several ships never before seen in the Battlestar Galactica universe such as the Sobek class battlestar and Assault Vipers make an appearance.

If there is continued fan interest and support, future episodic releases will see ships such as Pegasus and Galactica from the show. You'll also see more ships not from the show that flesh out the Cylon and Colonial fleets.

After more than 4 years of development, the Diaspora Development team are proud to release our game.

Known Issues

  • Due to the size of the installer it may take a long time for the installer to actually start. This may last several minutes (up to five minutes in some instances). There are reports that virus checkers may extend this delay so you may wish to turn them off during the installation process.
  • Multiplayer is currently very much in beta. Also, in order to enhance the eventual multiplayer experience, the team decided not to finalise the balance between ships. Feedback from players is very welcome. The true multiplayer experience will be available in the next release. Till then, if you wish to experiment, here's how to get started.

Installation

Windows

Simply download the installer and run it. The Installer will guide you through installing the game.

Mac OS X

  • Mount Diaspora.dmg, and follow instructions within to copy Diaspora to the Applications folder.
  • Note: Before you play for the first time (only need to do this once), please double click on RUN_ME_ONCE.command to install the most appropriate graphics settings.
  • Double click on wxlauncher, and press Play, located in the bottom right corner.

Linux (Source Only)

(At the moment the team doesn't have the time or expertise to make proper packages for Linux. We're hoping someone will be willing to help us out there).

First, open a terminal and change to the directory where you downloaded Diaspora.

Then open the archive by typing

tar --lzma -xf Diaspora_R1_Linux.tar.lzma

or if that command doesn't work, the following two commands instead:

unlzma -z -k Diaspora_R1_linux.tar.lzma

tar -xf Diaspora_R1_Linux.tar

Then follow the instructions in Diaspora_R1_Linux/Diaspora/README.txt, with one correction: after you start the launcher in step 5, select your screen resolution from the drop down box in the Basic Settings tab before you press Play. Otherwise, you'll be running in 1024x768.

Soundtrack

During the time we've spent developing Diaspora, we have frequently been asked which songs from the show we've used in our trailers. The fact is that almost all the music in the game or trailers has been original. So for that reason, we're also releasing the soundtrack. You can find details on it here.

---

I've given the tutorial and the first few missions ago. I suck at these kinds of games but I'm enjoying it so far. Seems very well made. Probably best played with a flight stick.

Edit: Finished it, but I need to re-do some missions such as

Finding the pilot before jumping back.

And I thought that this was great:

The first time I tried it I was quite surprised.

There's a civilian ship with a hanger, and it's able to spool its FTL faster than the other civilian ships. The countdown for a combat landing start but it's actually really short and...I missed it. The ship jumped - and this was before all the evacuation raptors had reached it. You're objective from then on is to protect the rest of the ships until they can jump. Unfortunately I died at this point so I don't know if there is even an escape route.

Still, the ship making a decision like that is a very BSG thing.

The second time I did the mission my Viper was badly damaged so I hung around the ship and ran off with them. Like a coward.

Diaspora? It used to be called Beyond The Red Line. Played the demo way back, and thought it was actually incredible.

Edit: Turns out Beyond The Red Line is a separate mod, although it features "the majority of the team" that is now working on Diaspora. Can't wait to play this ish.

Had no idea this existed... and there's a Mac version!

Definitely will be downloading when I get home from work tonight. I loved Star Wars flight sims back in the day. X-Wing (and then X-Wing vs TIE Fighter) was incredible!

BSG could be an absolutely stunning game franchise. Much better than trying to spin off more TV shows.

I'd love a Majora's Mask type RPG where you play through and when you died you died, but everything happens again and you slowly learn from your mistakes.

It's small but it's something, and I do my best to help people avoid spoilers :P ReEdit: Bard is a Slowking

- Viper sim (like this)

- Space combat game (kind of like Bridge Commander)

- 3rd person shooter/RPG as a marine, similar to Mass Effect

- RTS (I hear there's a really good Empire at War mod). Perhaps to make it unique, combine it with a kind of Sim City-like aspect for the civilian fleet.

So I just read the word 'cobalt' in an article and it reminded me of Kobol. I am coming up to the end of The Wire and on the look for a new series to watch... Should I watch this for a 3rd time?...

That is the first sign of withdrawl, so I say yes...and hurry before you start looking at your toaster in strange ways

THE BUMP OF ALL MOTHERFRAKKING BUMPS

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome, LIVES and starts THIS FRIDAY, Novemeber 9th!!!!!!!!

The odd thing though is it is being premiered online.... as 10, 7-12min eps...on youtube.... that makes me a bit sad I must say :(

But apparently after it has all aired it will then be released as a 2 hour (or almost 2 hour) film, airing on Syfy (BOOOOOO) and later released on DVD (and hopefully BluRay....better not be like when Caprica was "released" on Bluray here...by which it was only France :heh:)

Trailer

Hopefully if this is good the door will still be open for a full TV show.... which Syfy will prolly pick up for one season then cancel without telling the studio and we'll be left with a cliff hanger unresolved.....FRAK YOU SYFY

I'm still holding hope that B&C will also fill in the gap a bit between the end of Caprica and start of B&C.... though prolly unlikely....least not in this current form....maybe they'd visit that if they got a full season green lit.

I'll take all the Battlestar I can get.

The music is amazing. But that's to be expected as they got Bear McCreary to do it again.

Haha, no. The full movie will air on SyFy in early 2013.

But the full movie will be on the internet a few hours after it's finished on YouTube.

You got my hopes up as that was how I was expecting it to be this weekend.

That's true, but they're going to upload them over four weeks, so this weekend was still very optimistic. :p

And then they were dashed all over again.

Who wants to watch small clips? Seriously? I'll wait until its finished then watch it together.

The movie get released officially on youtube...?

I don't think the full thing gets released. But people will download it and put them together to release on certain sites.

FRAK YEAH BITCHES,

Blood & Chrome is a go with the first TWO episodes (webisodes, whatever) uplaoded today WOOT

Can't believe it's been reduced to a web-series, looks like it's had a ton of effort and production put into it, it's a disgrace almost that it isn't getting a proper TV airing as a mini series or straight to TV movie.

SyFy better not screw this up, when this web run is over there damn well better be word of a proper TV series....and it better not get messed around liek Caprica did.

Anyway, bloody loved the two little eps so far.

Loved that they gave little references to Caprica and Greystone.... might actually get some proper info filled in on events between the end (cancellation) or Caprica and start of this.

Though they'll probably not reveal too much in hopes of doing the backstory properly through the TV show in flashbacks or something. (ie: I just want them to explain what happened with Zoe and Tamara....maybe they might even make appearence on the show *wishes*)

Odd too that they had some actors from Caprica & BSG.

Mike Dopud (Specialist Gage in BSG) is in here.

And Brian Markinson is here too. Let out a bit of a nerdy fanboy "woot" when I saw him, thought maybe he was still playing Durham from Caprica...sadly he is not :(

EDIT:

Only two things I'm not liking so far...1: Bill has already picked up his nickname "Husker"...yet he doesn't sound "Husky" like he should :(

2: LENS FLARE .... seriously is JJ Abrams involved in this but not credited?

Edited by Mokong

I'd rather not have to watch it in small webisodes, in fact I think it is a disgrace that SyFy has made them do it this way.

BUT, I've waited long enough for more from the BSG universe, I've run out of patience I'm not gonna wait for the BluRay (which will probably have a big gap between releasing in teh US and here) when I can watch it NOW.

When Adama sees Galactica for the first time, and the camera starts sweeping over it with a hint of the original theme tune .... just pure AWESOME

Posted

I also couldn't wait.

I like it so far. Lots of people seem to be complaining about lens flare, but it didn't bug me at all. Overall, the effects are much better then I was expecting. It's nice seeing Galactica all shiny and new.

I also like how they're using very different angles on the sets then they did in the show, like the view from the front end of the CIC - clearly showing of the raised platform (which I never noticed until it was used the final episode of season 4) and the hanger showing the ceiling (and stuff like the raised viewing area) a bit more. I also always like seeing new sections of the ship, like the tram section (according to Wikipedia, these were in the original original series).

I also liked some of the references (and clips) from Caprica, mentioning the Greystones, MCP, Adama's father's link to the Halatha. On the flip side, Brian Markinson as the commander was just...odd.

Trailer for teh DVD & BluRay release on Feb 19th... not sure if that just a US release or Worldwide

At 36 seconds you can spot two more actors who played characters in BSG...seriously what the frak is with all these returning actors?... it's starting to destory the illiusion having so many of the same actors playing different roles.
