ThePigMarcher Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 I've been taking my time through this and trying to get as many side missions/cards as possible. Almost midway through the side missions and I don't appear to have missed any yet, although I did run it close because of the initial confusion regarding chapter/episode numbering. If I have missed any I'll either try to grab them on my second playthrough or do a chapter replay. Also currently have 35 cards, which I've avoided reading because I'd also heard about potential spoilers. Red convertible (didn't log whose it was) Infinite ammo SMG Infinite resilience wrench Larger weapon bag Extra health suit and a couple of others Can't think what else Extra flies around my suit because I forgot to clean/change it for a while :p On the main story, I've only just finished Episode 2, Part 1 and the conclusion of that had me on the edge of my seat and I really can't wait to see what lies ahead. Definitely an acquired taste but one that I'm not disappointed to have taken a chance with. I really hope that the (admittedly) minor rumours of a sequel/prequel prove to be true, although lack of sales may prevent that happening.
jayseven Posted November 12, 2010 Author Posted November 12, 2010 I've missed a bunch of side missions. Didn't latch onto the whole mission/chapter thing at all until it was way too late for a lot of them! Also didn't realise that the notebook symbol wouldn't appear on the world map if they were indoors unless you land the cursor on them. Also, leaderboard says I've spent 45 hours in greenvale :| Clearly I'm not the quickest... Although I dunno if that counts for when it's paused as I've had it paused for hours before. I think the 'hours played' at the load screen could be in-game time since your last save? You're doing well with the cards! I'm on episode 7 and I only have 40 of them. I haven't officially 'completed teh game' yet because I dunno if I can play on with this save file, or what. Will grab a couple more things then just do so anyway.
jayseven Posted November 13, 2010 Author Posted November 13, 2010 Don't know if it bothers anyone - but the achievements for difficulty do not stack. I imagine a run-through on easy wouldn't be too tribblesome, so I may endeavour that soon - but I'll hold Hard off 'til later.
jayseven Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Anyone else still playing it? Just 1k'd it ^__________^ under 6 hours on easy, under 7 on hard... probably like 20 on medium. Well worth the money. - Willie the dog. Hey, let's run around for eight real-time minutes going the wrong way the whole time! - Following wossisface from the diner to the gallery. We KNOW he's going there. Stupid stupid. - The amount of shots teh wall/ceiling guys take to kill. On easy it's 6ish, on hard it seems to vary from 8 to 12.
Mundi Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Gonna try and play some more soon, try to finish it soon. I just got to the part where: You fight 4 ceiling crawlers in a row, took me like 1-2 hours to do just because I died like 2 times, just to realize I can save in between battles. After that I kinda just put the controller down for a while and played something else. And I also left my account on a USB at my friends place and can't be bothered to retrieve it.
Nolan Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Awesome game is awesome, I'm glad it finally got a PAL release so everyone else can enjoy it awesome terrible-ness. Never finished it though and haven't played in ages.
jayseven Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 You can save in-between?! Shit! What weapon are you using? was using the flamethrower. Sometimes they'd sit there for ages letting you turn them to cinder. Also - keep your torch off! They aren't so skittish that way. Really sad I've finished teh game. Did my latter two run-throughs on my USB rather than overwriting my original save. I technically haven't done everything - got maybe 6-7 side-quests to finish.
flameboy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Wish they would release the PS3 version here or at least in the UK! Posted from my BlackBerry using BerryBlab Edit I meant US obviously! Posted from my BlackBerry using BerryBlab

Posted from my BlackBerry using BerryBlab Well, the Asian PS3 version does have a English language option. It's also known as Red Seeds Profile instead of Deadly Premonition.

I used the SMG on them, ran behind them and shot them at every chance.
jayseven Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 By one of my counts took over 900 shots and about 15 minutes :P lolz!
Mundi Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I noticed that :Þ It was the reason for my frustration.

ThePigMarcher Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Finished this about a week ago and loved it. The final couple of battles did seem a little weird and out of place (even for this game) but even so, didn't detract from the experience. I managed to do all the side quests and find all the trading cards so I needn't do them on subsequent playthroughs, although I'll probably end up doing so anyway. I need to crack on with Fallout: New Vegas and Fable III, both of which I only picked up yesterday, and then I'll likely be giving this another run through. @ JaySeven, I agree with what you said about the most annoying bits, especially the first one you listed .
Aimless Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Granted I haven't played the game myself, but from watching GB's Endurance Run I got the impression the wall ladies can be quickly dispatched using melee weapons.
jayseven Posted November 25, 2010 Author Posted November 25, 2010 Yeah melee weapons are probably the best in the game! Gotta be careful about the range though. Been fucked over many a time by being too close with some or too far away with others.
Ganepark32 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 So bought this earlier in the week and finally sat down to play the prologue yesterday and I've been making steady progress through the first episode today. Not quite sure what to think of it so far. Clearly, visuals, controls and gameplay mechanics aren't great (although driving the police jeep felt more in line with some of the driving I've encountered in other open world titles) and I don't know the everything that is going on/has gone on yet so I can't really comment on the story but it is definitely getting more interesting now I've made it to the Lumber Mill. Haven't really taken to any of the characters, though. Sheriff seems like an arrogant prick, female deputy some how doesn't fit in for me yet and York just seems a little far out there to truly grab my attention. I get the whole 'Zach' thing already (although I could be wrong about it. I guess I'll find out soon enough) but the whole schozophrenic thing or his quips aren't making him endearing to me. I'm only nearing the end of the first episode so obviously things could and should change on that as the story begins to unravel further and as I get the opportunity to head off and do side missions, which I haven't really felt like I've had the time to explore yet.
jayseven Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Ganepark; when it says "be here by 23:00" or whatever on the nav, don't worry. You can do the mission the next day - go and explore the town/talk to poeple NAOW! The game is all about the story/characters/script. Graphics are all pre-gen. It's very much a cult game. You'll either love it or hate it. (I love it)
Ganepark32 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Well I've just finished the Lumber Mill bit (bloody QTEs drove me insane though ) and now have until 3pm/5pm to get to the community center tomorrow so I guess I'll use all of the spare time to explore and meet the people. It has grown on me a little bit but that may just be the overall weirdness of the story and the characters. I'll see. I'm sticking with it anyway because I want to and because I've nothing else to play on the 360.
jayseven Posted January 7, 2011 Author Posted January 7, 2011 Remember you can spend the WHOLE DAY checking people out around town. You can sleep for 3/6/9/12 hours so don't worry about the deadlines. Certain town events are available only at certain stages of the game. I would recommend going to the Milk Barn asap and getting the spirit map(s) and doing those. The QTEs are a bit annoying, but I personally found them keeping me on the edge of my seat the first time 'round. Just don't rush the game and you'll be fine I completed it three times in less than 30 hours and still have cravings to do it again!
Ganepark32 Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 I would recommend going to the Milk Barn asap and getting the spirit map(s) and doing those. Went specifically to the Milk Barn when playing earlier to do just that but there were no spirit map things to buy. Do you have to get to a certain point first before they become available? I've only just finished the first episode so.
jayseven Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 May be during episode 2 but I can't remember exactly when. Just keep checking back after you've done another mission.
Magnus Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I promised Jay I'd check out this game at the beginning of the year, and I finally played it a few days ago. It was... well, it was an interesting experience. Like if Twin Peaks and Silent Hill had a baby. It was the Twin Peaks DNA that I loved. I actually wasn't overly fond of the TV show, but I did like how weird all of the characters were and the general atmosphere, and Deadly Premonition isn't shy about stealing from it (in the , there were even dwarfs in a velvet room). So it's just a lot of fun to go through the story and see how murder mystery plays out (it does get a bit too weird for my taste near the end, but it's no weirder than Twin Peaks in its second season, so I can kind of live with it). Francis York Morgan is a great protagonist and almost every character in the game has a quirk of some sort. There are fifty sidequests in the game and though you often get great items from finishing them (the radio is a godsend), many of them are fun to do just to get to know the characters better. Of course, actually doing the sidequests can be a huge pain. The game is very nice about telling you in which chapters a sidequest can be played and which person will give it to you, but it fails to tell you about anything else. For example, the love interest has three sidequests that can only be undertaken at a certain time when it's raining. You can follow her around for days when it's not raining and you're never going to find her sidequests. It's even more annoying because she wants you to get specific items, but everything shuts down when it's raining, so you have no way of procuring said items if you do manage to stumble upon her sidequests while it's raining. Of course, you can wait until the next day and buy the items then, but then you have to wait for nightfall and rain again, and her quests are only available for a limited time. You can actually fast-forward time, but it's really annoying. Sleeping is the easiest way, but you need to find a bed to sleep and before you get the radio, driving back and forth between a bed and a place where you think there may be a sidequest can be really annoying. You can also smoke cigarettes, but it's slow and York will stop whenever he gets hungry or sleepy. Because yes, the game requires you to eat and sleep regularly (it also wants you to wash your suits when they get dirty and shave regularly, but there's no penalty for not doing so). It's actually not too annoying during the main story, but it makes doing sidequests more difficult than it needs to be. (To the game's credit, you can actually replay chapters at any time, but really all it does is give you a chance to do sidequests you've missed - all of the problems with doing sidequests are still there. You also need to finish the chapter for your progress to be saved, and there's a game-breaking bug if you choose to replay a chapter at the wrong time.) The Silent Hill parts are pretty dull, mostly because there are only three enemies - melee zombies, zombies with guns and those annoying women who climb around on walls. There are also no real puzzles, so it's mostly just a case of walking through room after room and gunning down everything in your way. Fortunately it's not a very hard game, since the game gives you weapons with unlimited ammunition when you finish certain sidequests. It's very obviously a low-budget game, with terrible graphics, poor gunplay and weird quirks, like the cars that handle like God-knows-what. The standard cars are almost incapable of turning. But in the end, I still really enjoyed the time I spent in the game because of the atmosphere and the quirky characters. I always made sure I ate lunch every day just to see what would happen, and I drove the Log Lady Sigourney all over town just to see what her pot would have to say. Little things like that were what made it a great experience.
Magnus Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 This is getting a Director's Cut in March next year with "improved graphics, controls, and downloadable content". I just thought Jay might be interested. Oh, and it's a PS3 exclusive. Also, tagging you doesn't work so here's a quote: .
jayseven Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Yeah I saw that and was a bit disappointed (what with not having a PS3). It's another game to add to the short list of games enticing me to get a PS3, but sensibly speaking there's no need. I'd love to see what the DLC would be like. I'd be a dissapointed buyer if it was just arena stuff. Perhaps back-story? Updated graphics will draw more buyers, hopefully. That it's getting an update is encouraging for hopes of a sequel (considering I bought the game for the price of a used game brand new as soon as it came out). Do you have a PS3, with thoughts on getting it? And tagging me works but you have to enter the mention; [.mention=565.]jayseven[./mention.] Should work. Surprised not more people have taken advantage of @tagging people inappropriately. You may well be the first, magnus!
