chairdriver Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Been listening to her 1998 album From The Choirgirl Hotel alot recently. I love pre-2000 Tori.
mr_bogus Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I love every Tori album (except The Beekeeper) equally. Even Y Kant Tori Read is ace
chairdriver Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Even Y Kant Tori Read is ace I love! How exactly did she get stuck in that photocopier?
Razz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I love! Such a funny album, it tells me great things. The Beekeeper is good too though, in it's own special way. And I use special in the politically incorrect sense.
chairdriver Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Barons Of Suburbia would be AMAZE if it were produced better/didn't sound so "Wisteria Lane"-y. I've heard 2 or 3 live versions of it and its always really good.
Razz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I hate how matte the vocals all sound after Scarlet's Walk. There used to be so much depth and good mastering. is incredible for a number of reasons, namely: It starts with a fade-in. Gradual introduction of a drum loop that sounds like sex. Bass pulses exist within said drum loop. Unsettling piano riff. The lyrics. Namely "and if your friends don't come back to you, and you know this is madness, a lilac mess in your prom dress, and you go..." Finally back to just the drum loop again, and fade out. I'm sure I had a point to begin with or something, but yeah it's just sonically delish.

Oh wait, i own it... i already know. But is it really her worst album? I only own that, and Tales of a Librarian so i don't know. But i love half the songs on Beekeeper, hate the other half.
chairdriver Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Fuck, yeah, Liquid Diamonds is sublime. I love how I can never remember how it goes either, so every time I listen it's brand new. I love how the vocals go in-and-out of "focus". I imagine someone twisting a camera lens-scope thing.
Razz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 I only own that, and Tales of a Librarian so i don't know.

The Beekeeper and TOAL are her worst albums (not including Abnormally Attracted To Sin, but that's not Tori, that's Fori (Fail Tori)). The Beekeeper feels as though halfway through she should go "LOL jk here's the real album!". It's just... really bad... TOAL was a Greatest Hits, but she pointlessly remastered the songs to make them worse. Really recommend getting the albums proper.
Pancake Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Really?? I thought Tales of a Librarian was amazing and didn't assume the songs were massively different from the originals. Just not got round to buying the rest of her albums, but am going to based on the amazingness of TOAL.
Razz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 (edited) But can we just be clear on one thing: Witness is fun. EDIT: Pancake, she completely ruined Spark, among others on TOAL with remastering. Seriously they sound so much better on their respective albums. Also, Caught A Lite Sneeze is weirdly missing, considering that was one of her better chart performers. Edited July 20, 2010 by Razz

Or i should say, the "is anybody oooooout there" slow bit rocks. The song is about 2 minutes too long though. Oh yeah, i never really liked Spark, i always skip it. Maybe i'd like the original.
Razz Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Do you have spotify, Pancake? They're all there. If you need an invite, let me know.
chairdriver Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 Yeah, I don't understand the song choice for TOAL either. It seems she picked random songs she liked at the time. God, Raspberry Swirl, Caught A Lite Sneeze et al are all missing. That said, I do love TOAL, because my Chinese friend (who moved from China specifically to go to uni) randomly has it on her iPod, alongside select other English stuff and a sea of Chinese stuff. I loved when she randomly started singing Silent All These Years in the library.

I don't, but i'm going to buy all the albums anyway, cos i'm pretty sure i'll love them. So i'll hear it all then. Thanks though. God, Raspberry Swirl, Caught A Lite Sneeze et al are all missing. God is on it isn't it?? It's one of my faves.
chairdriver Posted July 20, 2010 Author Posted July 20, 2010 God is on it isn't it?? It's one of my faves. Oh yeah. I keep forgetting I deleted half of it off my iTunes randomly.
Paj! Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 My fave thread. My friend saw her last night in Paris, apparently she was great. I'm not currently in a Tori phase, but we all know she's imprinted on me. But yeah, she's a scary artist to love and recommend, as you fear people will search her up and hear her recent stuff and understandably never try again.
S.C.G Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Been listening to her 1998 album From The Choirgirl Hotel alot recently. Ah I remember that album well... not because I'm very familiar with it but namely as I have two copies of it and one is being used as a rather nice coaster, hence I'm reminded of the album frequently... Best coaster ever? 'you bet your life it is'
mr_bogus Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Never seen any other artist stand up and shout "GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY SHOW" at someone in the audience / crew - Search it on youtube... Vote time! Crucify - single version or album version?
Ashley Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 She was featured in one of the "yay Apple" promotional videos I saw today. And she says "A Soda Fairytale". That's a truth you cannot refute!
