Got a challenge for N-E. I've been told to come up with a playlist of songs, one song for each year since 1960. Unfortunately my knowledge on older non-rock stuff is kinda lacking so I'm struggling to get variation in there. Anyone feel like giving me a hand? A whole 50 songs, a decade or just a few suggestions (with year) would be welcome :)

I had a draft playlist that I was going to post up - but I've just deleted it :hmm: Second time I've done that now! Guess it's start from scratch time...

Surely this is the most subjective thing ever? Everyone's got a different favourite song from different years...

Which is why I'm asking for help. The draft I did was pretty much my taste in music with a few token variations in there. It read like a 'Rolling Stone Magazine' best of.

I'm hoping for some suggestions to bump up the variation :)

Oh man I don't know, can that really win against Comfortably Numb? Or London's Calling? Or Love Will Tear Us Apart??

Why not just the number one song on your birthday ever year? Granted it will probably result in crap but at least its easy to do :p

As good as that song is, it has the unfortune of being released in the same year as both Don't Stop Believin' by Journey and Back in Black by AC/DC. As such, I'd say either of those would be the song to mark '81. Waiting For A Girl Like You by Foreigner also came out in that year but I'd probably place Under Pressure above it. Not a bad year for music I must say.

Here be a few from my end

1978 - Rivers of Babylon - Boney M

1982 - I Don't Wanna Dance - Eddy Grant

1989 - Poison - Alice Cooper

1990 - Sacrifice - Elton John

I'll probably throw some more on later.

My thoughts:

1986 - Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi

1987 - Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses or I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For by U2

1988 - One by Metallica

1989 - Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue (although I'm finding it hard to think of something that really stood out in '89)

1990 - Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O'Connor perhaps

1991 - not even going to attempt a pick a song for this. Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana, Losing My Religion by REM, Enter The Sandman by Metallica, Alive by Pearl Jam, November Rain by Guns N' Roses, and One by U2 to name some of the awesome songs from this year. Seriously, this year should either be left blank or as a bulk answer cause it's nigh on impossible to pick the defining song.

1992 - Plush by Stone Temple Pilots or Killing In The Name by RATM

1993 - Today by Smashing Pumpkins or Are You Gonna Go My Way by Lenny Kravitz

1994 - Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden or Sabotage by Beastie Boys

That'll do for now. I think I may attempt to do a whole list for myself.

66': God Only Knows

67': A Day In the Life

70': Wild Horses

71': Stairway or Maggot Brain

75': Thunder Road

The eighties through to the naughties are far too volatile for me.

1991: Sir Chesney Hawkes - The One and Only

Yes! Still have this after my iTunes 10 song buying experiment I did. Love it :D

'65 My Generation - The Who

'95 Wonderwall - Oasis

'71 Imagine - John Lennon

'75 Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Just a few that I would chime in with.
