david.dakota Posted February 17, 2016 Author Posted February 17, 2016 @will&\#39; I'd highly recommend Sony phones. I've had two now and the battery life is wonderful. Not to mention, in my humble (brag) opinion they tend to get the best version of android, it takes a while for it to come out but its usually a lot less buggy. . I think the best version of Android is pure, stock Android..
nightwolf Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I think the best version of Android is pure, stock Android.. Well if you want to be really picky about it. Then yes, likely.
dan-likes-trees Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Finally have a phone with some space on it for apps. Any must have apps / games from the past couple years that people would recommend? I pretty much just used my last phone for Pocket Onecast and whatsapp
nightwolf Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 Finally have a phone with some space on it for apps. Any must have apps / games from the past couple years that people would recommend? I pretty much just used my last phone for Pocket Onecast and whatsapp Hmm apps I use on the regular: - Telegram I like the addition of gifs. Enough said. - Lifeline This is a game, well, its a text based on at most. But its brilliant. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.threeminutegames.lifeline.google&hl=en_GB - Now for Reddit Everyone has a preference and I've tried a bunch of Reddit apps, this is the easiest one for me to read. - Doze Helps with battery life, creates a VPN essentially. But you're apps will not update with notifications whilst its on. Its basically like Greenify. Which is also recommended. - Time for sleep An ambient noise app. I've tried a whole bunch of free ones and it offers the most range. - Duolingo For learning languages. Makes it fun! - *name of a launcher* Android launchers are pretty big, they allow most customised look, I currently using LINE launcher, though Nova and others are pretty popular. Depends what you want your phone to look like and functionality you want from it. ./phew that was a bit more than I expected!

Yeah new launcher is the first thing I use whenever I get a new android, prompting an obsessive couple of ocd hours sorting it all out. The major perk over ios for me. I'm amazed by all the people on touchwiz, still so gross. My current look Swisshh. Btw are you use you got the name right on time for sleep? I want to give it a try but it's not coming up on the play store when I search Edited February 25, 2016 by dan-likes-trees
nightwolf Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Btw are you use you got the name right on time for sleep? I want to give it a try but it's not coming up on the play store when I search Ah I did! Sorry about that, here it is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mizusoft.relaxandsleep&hl=en_GB Completely the wrong name, whoops! (time 4 sleep is a bed company..so thats likely where I got it from as thats where my bed is from).
James Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Comprehensive list! Great, ta Just downloaded Lifeline - sounds great! I'm amazed by all the people on touchwiz, still so gross. My current look Swisshh. Btw are you use you got the name right on time for sleep? I want to give it a try but it's not coming up on the play store when I search I prefer the google now launcher, very minimal and has super quick access to google now with a swipe to the right.
dan-likes-trees Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I prefer the google now launcher, very minimal and has super quick access to google now with a swipe to the right. Eh, it's alright, nova launcher and others have infinite customisability so I don't see that as a plus. Adding a swipe to access google now takes about 5 seconds to set up - similar to swipe to any app. I also think that the app icons from google, while better than most, aren't as well designed and consistent as the best icon packs you can buy from designers on the play store. Each to their own.
Ike Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Android Pay hitting UK soon: http://officialandroid.blogspot.co.uk/2016/03/tap-pay-uk.html
khilafah Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I recently just got the xiaomi Mi5. Nice phone, great build and feels like a premium flagship for sure. While Miui OS has some cool features the no app drawer is killer. Just put Google now launcher on it.
Ike Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Android N Preview 2 finally fixed playing Youtube video in split screen mode while your focused on a different window which is pretty much all I wanted. In the previous version the video would pause, I was pretty sure they were going to make it a Youtube Red feature.
david.dakota Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Anyone have any experience of action camera? Ideally, with relatively easy syncing to Google Photos.
James Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Google Photos should just detect media and give you the option if you wish to sync the photos.
david.dakota Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Android Pay (God, I hate that name) is about to launch in the UK.
Ike Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 It's been working for a while but no banks support it yet, at least mine doesn't.
Ike Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Android Pay is working with my bank now. Need to think if something to buy now to try it out.
Shorty Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 A friend of mine has an issue that's at odds with this thread title. A Samsung phone, I think one of the recent galaxy models. She can't put any apps onto the memory card, she can't seem to move anything to the memory card. She has less than 100MB space on the phone, a 16GB micro SD card in the phone with a huge amount of space on it, and she can't even install Pokemon Go. The online storage (8GB) is mostly filled with misc/other data (4GB) which can't be browsed in more detail from the usage manager, and apps which can't be moved. Is there a simple fix to this that neither of us can find?
bob Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Can she put anything on the SD card? Like photos and stuff? Maybe it needs reformatting? If not, maybe the lock switch is accidentally on?
Shorty Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Lock switch on a micro SD? Not sure if she tried moving pics, I'll check. I don't think it needs reformatting since it shows up in the device and illustrates its own available space.
Happenstance Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Anyone here have a Samsung Note phone? (Or that sized phone)
bob Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 Yeah i got the 7. It's just in the other room right now though, why do you ask? Actually hang on, brb, can smell smoke.
Happenstance Posted September 10, 2016 Posted September 10, 2016 I'm just interested to hear what they are like (not necessarily just the 7), how much the stylus is actually used and the size really. I'm kind of interested in getting one (when they are re-released!) but have never been too sure about larger phones.
Shorty Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Honestly this is why I hate Android. Fractured device base, third party OS interference, lack of support for specific issues. Sometimes when you have a problem, you're just fucked because some update to the OS has changed things beyond your control. My friend's phone has only about 200MB worth of apps, pictures and other manageable data. She's removed most apps to try and save space, but it still won't let her download and install any more. She's managed to move two or three to the SD card (audible and a couple of similar apps). 5GB+ of the onboard storage is taken up by misc system data. The rest is the OS. It can't be browsed or cleared. You can't even fit on the software needed if you want to root the phone to fix the problem manually. Pretty much her only option is to wipe the phone. I know iPhones are overpriced and too trendy, that a lot of people gravitate towards them for the wrongs reasons. That many things they do in their OS are well behind Android. But this kind of crap just doesn't happen with them....
Ike Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 The misc data could be internet downloads or even downloads from Audible or podcasts. My Nexus gives me a file explorer if I click on "Other" under storage (and there's an "Explore" option). Uninstalling apps won't necessarily clear out any additional files they may have downloaded. You've probably tried this but remove the SD card and see what data you can remove data from the internal storage. If you can't from the phone, then plug it into a PC.
