If the island blew up in '77 (or whenever) then surely some other things would never have happened, like that mystic trying to convince Claire to go to LA, thus she never would've gotten on the flight? Hurley's numbers are now 'lucky', but his reasons for going to Oz are now not clear. In any case, the direction they've gone obviously gives us a lot to talk/think about, and that's what the show's about really. The whole Jacob/Abel (whatever his name is) side of things is going to be the answer-holding arc, hopefully telling us more about the island and generally giving us some reasons behind much of teh first season. I STILL want to know why the smokemonster didn't hurt Mr Ekko in teh jungle that time, and if it was him who possessed jack's dad which led them to the caves, and why. Eko's character was supposed to stay, but the actor asked to be written out (the asshole, his character was fantastic), so I think Esau/Abel/Smokie didn't kill him purely because he "understood" the island and how special it really is (much like Locke). Which baffles me - surely working on Lost is one of the most sought out acting jobs ever... on location Hawaii, probably pretty nice pay, high profile show. Madness. I actually thought he was turning into a bit of a dull character anyway tbh - he started off fantastic but then all the religious shit was incredibly boring... Posted February 9, 2010 Eko had some driving incident didn't he? The cast/crew didn't get on with him so I see it more as he was fired than that he wanted out. And his character 'knowing the island' doesn't really explain much. That infers that Eko's desire to build a church is what smokeman wanted? It's important to remember with Locke that pretty much all of last season he wasn't himself. Jacob asked Ben to make sure all of the O6 returned to the island, so why did Ben kill Locke? Doing so only gave smokeman the vessel he needed, and smokeman inferred with his line ~"after all these years my efforts come to fruition" (paraphrase from last ep of the last season) that it was him that made Ben kill Locke... I'm not really going anywhere with this, I still think that it'll be after the show ends and I watch it all the seasons from the beginning again, with my wiki-guide besides me, that I'll get my head around most of it. He wasn't fired at all, he was a fan favorite, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is a terrific actor (especially on Oz) who just didn't get along with Hawaii, and pretty much asked to be writen out. If you see the making of DVD extras, he actually got along very well with the rest of the cast (or at least made it seem like it). His character "understanding" the island explains the fact that Smokie would spare him. It doesn't mean that Eko was acting on Smokie's behalf, he had his own motivations... it just means that Smokie doesn't mind sharing the island with those who, in his opinion, are worthy. I'm hoping they're just planning on getting the crap out of the way in time for the last ten or so. Still, some interesting enough bits and bobs in there. Anyone else listen to the official Lost podcast, very interesting in the first episode they were keen to stress that people shouldn't call the flashsideways an alternate timeline..just thought would say that as people myself included use it. Plus, he's only shapeshifted to people who are actually dead. Aand (this ain't bad) I get the impression this baddie can't do any physical damage on Jacob or whoever when he's in shapeshifted form (thus explaining why he had to convince Ben to kill J) but now that he's physically taken on the body of Sayid that might change. Erruuhh dunno. Anyway, you could be right but I hope not - brainwashing an army of the dead is surely the most wanky way to conclude such a great show. Also, if john lennon and wassisname so want to kill Sayid, why not just shoot him and be done with it? Lhame. Posted February 17, 2010 I don't think we learned too much in that episode. The numbers were shoehorned in, all we really got to know was that Jacob was a nut who was worried about the future. There were at least 295 names written on those walls, it reads to me that Jacob was a desperate man wanting to let go of the island. Again, this apparent 'revelation' brings up another set of questions that will likely be answered with more questions. The episode was enjoyable though, I particularly liked seeing Locke and Helen back together again, the romance portions of Lost tend to be strong, if at times saccharine, so it was nice to see them returning to this one. It did make me think though, there isn't a strong, centre stage romance in the show anymore which could be detrimental to the finale if the show continues as it is. Or vaguely expanding upon them. Also, I'm getting bored of the flashforwards fast. All the coincidences - if they really are just coincidences then does anyone really care anyway? And it would be silly if they were all just coincidences as well.
