Derren Brown's "I'm failing the nation" series

I have to say I think this recent series is the worst stuff he's ever done. In the past it's all been very cleverly put together and actually provoked some thought as to how he's done it. These recent shows are just far to trick-like and obvious set-ups. I'll be watching the rest (not sure how many are still to go) but I'm really not as taken with them as in the past.

Lol tbf it wasn't a bad effort and goes to show he was serious about it. He wouldn't have wanted to put his reputation on the line and ruin the 'we're risking 5 grand of your money' plot of the episode if he got it wrong so that was serious shit.

Anti-climax to all the events though. I smell rape.

Just to point out I'm not a believer in him messing that up so that his other tricks appear genuine. As I said, still don't know what to believe.

Haha did he really fail? I bet he was really close though, something like that would give the feeling that he would purposely fail just to recieve some attention that...you know, it doesn't matter, I don't know why I even semi-care.

I look forward to the inevitable show where he reveals how he punked a large majority of the nation into believing he achieved anything with these events. Probably after this science of scams website thing has finished. He'll then reveal that he's been scamming all of us over the past four weeks and how he actually performed these effects.

If a show like this doesn't come then Derren Brown has lost ALL credibility in my eyes.

He's not done anything quite like these events though. He's always admitted in the past that he uses magic and other things to perform his stunts. In this series he's told bare faced lies all the way through. Like the lottery explanation for example. The climax to the show was him revealing how to do it and neither explanation were anywhere close to the truth. I have confidence that a show will come where he'll reveal it was all bollocks. It'll be to sorta teach people a lesson - not to blindly believe everything you see, to question things. Just look at that science of scams website and you have to see that that's the way he's always been going with these events.

I really hope he does that. I had it in the back of my mind but until I saw that post nobody had suggested it, so I pray that he makes this 'fuck you' show. That would win back my respect. And remind me of how awesome he is.

The way he made that guy fall asleep though and get the £5000 was amazing. So funny as well.

I'm sorry but to me he seemed like an actor. How the hell did Derren Brown know that person would just have £5000 to handover and when he answered the phone he was far from convincing and when Brown said can you see yourself on the TV he was like oh yeah...like he had just popped up. when really he would have been on the TV the whole time they were talking up to that point.

I didn't really care about that posh Londoner (no offence to Londoners here) not getting the 175 grand or whatever. Anyone who can take out 5 grand from their bank, and not even realise it in the next week, doesn't need 175 grand.

Because he lived in a posh/expensive area of London, saw he wore very expensive designer clothes, nice watch, he had a well paid job, etc. You seriously wouldn't be able to determine whether someone had savings if you followed them for a few weeks?

I actually enjoyed this series; I think Derren Brown managed to entertain people, which I suppose is his main goal.

Also, on the 1st truck in the How to Beat a Casino episode, has a red 30 written on it...

Not sure if it was planned, or a co-incidence, but makes you think :)

Not coincidence I think as there was also a skip during the part where he gets the guy to go get the money. Had something like 'Toulouse 8 - 30' on it.... 'to lose'... There are loads of these little hints in the show which makes me more sure that a 'punkd' show is coming where he points out all these little things.

Exactly, I don't get why so many people are whining about it, he's a great showman and the program's really entertaining, even if the main event isn't always great / doesn't work. Watching the latest one atm, s'alright so far

Plus, he made a huge talking point for everyone in England for a few days, which can't be a bad thinf
