gaggle64 Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I recently attempted to install Norton Internet Security 06 on my PC under the assumption that installing a well known and reliable Security programme would be a good thing. However, when I restarted my PC after installation (as instructed) I found that my PC was practically frozen. It took ten minutes to even load the task bar and everything was very, very slow. I was also unable to start any programmes as a result (including Norton). It just seemed to have ripped a bloody great chunk out of my OS (XP). My PC is better now - I've spent the last 2 days nursing it back to health after booting it from the disk (re-installing drivers ect.) Has this ever happend to anyone else? I hear I'm not the only one. Should I try to reinstall Norton or ask for a refund? - I'm just pissed that a programme I paid £50 caused so much stress.
Gaijin von Snikbah Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I have Norton and have never experienced something like this. Im likely to think its your computer there is something wrong with.
Dieter Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I'm probably biased, but Norton usually fucks up everything on my pc after a period of time. I tried uninstalling it once and it's worse than ANY virus out there. I personally would get a refund.
Shorty Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I had Norton at one point on an old computer - it screwed everything up. Ever since I've been warning people to stay away from it at every opportunity.
RoadKill Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Norton is famous for fucking your computer up.
Marshmellow Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 i usta have norton i never had any problems...
SpinesN Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Nothing can beat nod32 for a virus scanner http://www.eset.com/home/home.htm aside from maybe kaspersky, still I like nod better :p
Nevahom Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 Norton is famous for fucking your computer up. Im seeing irony here lol I used to have F prot, but my internet usage didnt warrant the price of subscription.
trisha Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 symantec scrapped the sygate free firewall today. kerio's free one is going soon too norton is a pig to uninstall, and like many av programs will not be happy if there is anything already on the pc doing the same job. ensure you install with any previous stuff off.
AshMat Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I used AVG free, then got rid of it because in the 2 months i had it, it never once got used.
trisha Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 my antivirus picks up a suspect attachment each month that the isps email scanners miss. then again, perhaps my addresses are known! there was a heavy attack once after the old cube-europe forums were affected, with the same virus being spotted 30 odd times in a week in my inbox.
Mr_Odwin Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I used AVG free, then got rid of it because in the 2 months i had it, it never once got used. Did you replace it with anything?
Elekko Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Why didn't you just boot in safe mode, uninstall and then re-installed the software?
